[Top 5] Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Best Axes in The Game
Link with a golden sparkle

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom rewrites what is possible in terms of gameplay with the new Ultrahand and Fuse functions that allows the player to build anything they can dream of from weapons to flying vehicles. Fuse gives Link the ability to meld materials together to create weapons, and the creativity of Zelda players means that anything is possible.

Because of the gloom that oozed from the depths of Hyrule, most of the collectible weapons are broken, rusty, and damaged meaning fusing weapons is necessary for advancing in the game. There is one weapon, however, that stands out above the rest, and that is the mighty axe.

Not only are axes powerful weapons of destruction, but they also come with the Tree Chopper ability which makes cutting trees easier. In a game where building is such an important aspect, having an abundance of materials is just as necessary, and axes are the perfect weapons for gathering everything you will need.

Obtaining axes is a bit different than other games because instead of finding them, you must make them. There are certain materials found in game that will create an axe when fused with a one or two-handed weapon, and we will tell you exactly how to make them.

Here are the 5 best axes in the game ranked from good to best.

5. Stone Axe

Stone Axe

The stone axe is the plainest axe in the game, but don’t let its simplicity fool you. Stones only adds +1 attack damage, but as with all fused weapons, it’s as strong as its base material, so the stronger the base weapon the stronger your stone axe will be.

While you can use these axes for combat in a pinch, it’s best to use these for gathering materials. Stone axes have a higher durability for chopping trees than normal weapons, so you could easily cut down five or six trees before they start to weaken, and longer if your base is a two-handed weapon.

What Makes the Stone Axe Great?

  • You can get a lot of use out of them when chopping trees and wooden boxes because they are more durable than other weapons.
  • Stones and sticks are everywhere, so even if they do break, you can easily make another.
  • It can be made stronger with a strong base material.

Weapon Stats:

  • Attack Damage: Base +1

Effects:

  • Tree Cutter

How to Get the Stone Axe:

The easiest way to make a stone axe is by fusing a stick to a stone. It is important that the fused material is a stone and not a rock, or you will make a hammer instead. Stones are flat and sharp, whereas rocks are round. Stones are found everywhere across Hyrule, making this one of the easiest weapons to make.

4. Hinox Toenail Axe

Hinox Toenails

If you want to level up your axe, fuse your base material to a Hinox Toenail. My favorite thing to fuse these with are Bokoblin Arms to create a nasty, edgy version of an axe.

The toenail adds +7 attack damage to its base weapon, so it will take you farther against enemies. They add the same Tree Cutter bonus as the stone, but Hinox toenails also provide bonus damage to Evermeans. (Thank goodness. I hate those guys.)

They look like a large, thick slab of wood and may be dropped after defeating any Hinox. As far as mini-bosses go, Hinoxes are quite easy to beat, so it’s not as intimidating of a fight. Hinox toenails also add quite a bit of durability to the base weapon so they can cut more trees before breaking.

What Makes the Hinox Toenail Axe Great?

  • Relatively easy monster boss part to obtain.
  • It’s quite a unique trophy to carry around an axe made up of a toenail.
  • Adds a significant boost of durability.

Weapon Stats:

  • Attack Damage: Base +7

Effects:

  • Tree Cutter
  • Bonus Damage to Evermeans

How to Get the Hinox Toenail Axe

You will need to fuse a Hinox toenail with a base material of your choice. The toenails are dropped after defeating a Hinox. Hinoxes are found sleeping across Hyrule. The easiest Hinox to find is the one that lingers around the Satori Mountain Foothill Cave.

3. Blue Boss Bokoblin Axe

Blue Boss Bokoblin Horn

Each type of monster drops parts that create a specific category of weapon. The Boss Bokoblins all drop a horn in the shape of an axe blade that when fused with any weapon base creates an axe.

It boasts the same Tree Cutter perk as a Hinox Toenail, but adds a significant attack increase of 16 to any base weapon. With this weapon, not only can you cut trees easily, but you will be strong against enemies.

What Makes the Blue Boss Bokoblin Axe Great?

  • Blue Boss Bokoblin are the second weakest Boss Bokoblin, but it’s a stretch to call this an easy fight.
  • It can cut trees in one swipe.
  • Significant increase in damage dealt compared to the other two.

Weapon Stats:

  • Attack Damage: Base +16

Effects:

  • Tree Cutter
  • Bonus Damage to Evermeans

How to Get the Blue Boss Bokoblin Axe:

After defeating any Blue Boss Bokoblin, you can fuse its horn with a one or two-handed weapon of your choice. They are a bit more difficult to find as there are less in the game, but you can find one at Phalian Highlands west of Mount Lanayru.

2. Black Boss Bokoblin Axe

Black Boss Bokoblin Horn

The Black Boss Bokoblin is similar to the Blue Boss, but another level up. He drops a horn in the shape of a double axe which gives the Axe a very rugged and dangerous feeling.

It essentially doubles attack power adding +27 damage. Like the others, it also has the Tree Cutter and Evermean bonuses.

What Makes the Black Boss Bokoblin Axe Great?

  • It is a significant power-up from the Blue Boss.
  • Although the Black Boss poses a significant challenge, the reward is great.
  • Along with the axe horn, you will also get a number of other monster parts and rewards.
  • Fusing this with a double-handed base will create a majorly powerful weapon that will easily slice through enemies.

Weapon Stats:

  • Attack Damage: Base +16

Effects:

  • Tree Cutter
  • Bonus Damage to Evermeans

How to Get the Black Boss Bokoblin Axe:

Create this weapon by fusing a Black Boss Bokoblin Horn with a one or two-handed weapon of your choice. One can be found in the Lanayru Mountain area North East of the Hateno Lab.

1. Silver Boss Bokoblin Horn

Silver Boss Bokoblin Horn

Finally, we have made our way to the strongest of all the Boss Bokoblins, the Silver Boss. He is the most dangerous of all the Boss Bokoblins and will pose a significant threat when trying to obtain his horn, but the risk is well worth the reward.
His horn is the biggest of the three. It is strange and circular with a red rope tied in a triangle. Along with the other perks, this horn will add a solid +37 attack damage when fused with a base.

Weapon Stats:

  • Attack Damage: Base +37

Effects:

  • Tree Cutter
  • Bonus Damage to Evermeans

What Makes the Silver Boss Bokoblin Axe Great?

  • This is the most powerful axe head you can achieve in the game.
  • Fuse this with an already strong base to create one of the most formidable weapons of all.
  • Evermeans don’t stand a chance.

There we have it! The best axes in Tears of the Kingdom. What other axes can you create?
