What booty awaits thee in yee old Shadow of the Colossus?

Shadow of the Colossus is a simply designed game with a straight forward storyline. The main intent is just to kill some giant stone monsters and bring your girlfriend back from the dead. When you start the game, Wanderer is a bit of a minimalist. All he has on him is his sword, and bow and arrow. Nothing fancy.

But there are many other items to be unlocked, and discovered. Some are pretty rad, others not so much. In this guide, I'm going to go over some of the weapons you can obtain rating them in order from worst to best.

10.Bow and Arrow

The bow and arrow are the first range weapon in Wanderer's arsenal. It is used to expose sigils on colossi. The bow and arrow is particularly handy on horseback. 

What to know about the bow and arrow?

•    Finicky to use (especially on horseback)
•    Not effective for killing colossi
•   Only useful for finding weak points and attracting attention

How to get the bow and arrow?

• Acquired at the beginning of the game

9. Ancient Sword

Testing the Power of the Ancient Sword 

The ancient sword plays a big part in the storyline. It is used to keep Dormin sealed away for many years. Wanderer uses the sword to harness the power of Dormin.

What to know about the Ancient Sword?

• Draws light and leads you to colossi
• Exposes the sigils/weak points on the colossi
•  Not as powerful as some of the other specialty items

How to get the Ancient Sword?

•  Acquired at the beginning of the game

8. Cloth of Desperation

The Cloth of Desperation acts as a parachute, which proves quite useful when sparring with your giant foes. The cloth is identical to the one draped around Mono at the beginning of the game.

What to know about the Cloth of Desperation?

• Slows down the speed of falls and reduces damage Wanderer might take 
• Wanderer doesn't have much control over it when in use

How to get the Cloth of Desperation?

• Defeat 14 colossi on Hard Time Attack mode

7. Mask of Power

When the Mask of Power is worn it increases damage to Colossi. It bears resemblance to another mask worn by one of Master Emon's men.

What to know about the Mask of Power?

•   Increases damage when fighting colossi

How to get the Mask of Power?

• Defeat 12 colossi on Normal Time Attack mode

6. Cloak of Deception

The Cloak of Deception is neat because it completely shrouds Wanderer so he's invisible to the naked eye of colossi. Only his shadow remains visible, mostly for the convenience of the player.

What to know about the Cloak of Deception?

•  Renders you completely invisible
• Colossi cannot attack you
•  If you shoot arrows while shrouded colossi may be able to find you

How to get the Cloak of Deception?

•  Defeat 14 colossi in Normal Time Attack mode

5. Sword of the Sun

This is the first unlocked sword in the game. The Sword of the Sun does not pose an advantage in regards to damage. The blade is known for its namesake. It shines brighter than any sword, even under complete darkness.

What to know about the Sword of the Sun?

• Does not inflict extra damage like the Sword of Dormin
• The light it draws shines the brightest, especially in dark locations

How to get the Sword of the Sun?

• Acquired after beating 4 colossi on Time Attack on Hard mode

4. Flash Arrow

The Flash Arrow is another long-range weapon that is unlocked later on in the game. When an arrow hits its target, it explodes doing large amounts of damage to sigils.

What to know about the Flash Arrow?

• It explodes on impact doing a fair amount of damage to major sigils
• Great distraction for the colossi
• Same usage as the normal arrow and bow, but does more damage

How to get the Flash Arrow?

• Defeat all 16 colossi in Normal Time Attack

3. Sword of Dormin

The sword of Dormin is a specialty item. The sword itself encapsulates Dormin's essence with a colossus's eye at the hilt. It drafts a shadowy, dark essence. Instead of drawing sunlight like the Ancient Sword.

What to know about the Sword of Dormin?

•  Inflicts massive damage to colossi
• Hinders Wanderer's life regeneration abilities
•  Guides you to colossi

How to get the Sword of Dormin?

• After collecting 79 gold coins the sword can be found on the western side of Shrine of Worship's exterior
• A path is then exposed which leads below the shrine
• The sword will be found within a rock

2. Harpoon of Thunder

This is also another range weapon acquired later on in the game, that Wanderer can throw at major sigils.

What to know about the Harpoon of Thunder?

• The damage down by a fully charged harpoon is similar to that of the Ancient Sword
• Cannot kill a colossus
•  With a successful strike, it can reveal minor sigils on the body of a colossus

How to get the Harpoon of Thunder?

•  Defeat 2 colossi on Hard Time Attack

1. Queen's Sword

The Queen's Sword is one of the most powerful weapons Wanderer can wield. Due to items not being locked on the PS4 system, the sword can be paired with the Mask of Power resulting in a heinously strong Wanderer.

What to know about the Queen's Sword?

• One of the strongest sword available
•  Provides no advantage in tracking colossi
•  Can eliminate weak points of a colossus in 1 or 2 blows
• When combined with the Mask of Power, Wanderer becomes immensely stronger

How to get the Queen's Sword?

•  Slay all colossi in Hard Time Attack mode
