Add romance to any horror game and it becomes so much more scary.

Romance can be a terrifying experience, but if you add a little bit of ghosts and sexy creatures, well then, it might actually be bearable. Below I have compiled a list of 10 Romance Horror Games we Love. Be sure to have an extra pair of undies on hand before playing any of these games, you may wet yourself in more ways than one.

10. Speed Dating for Ghosts (PC, Nintendo Switch)

Speed Dating for Ghosts is a cute, comedic horror game about finding true love in the afterife. In this game you take the role of someone who is dead and is looking for a companion. , So where do you go to find love? Ghost speed dating, of course!

There are thirteen ghosts that you have a chance of encountering. Each has a unique design with a sometimes comedic or sad backstory. It’s hard not to fall in love with each of them, they’re all so precious. If I had to pick only one of them to spend the rest of the afterlife with, well, I wouldn’t be able to. It’s just too hard to choose! 

Keep in mind that some ghosts are more difficult to swoon than others, but with the right moves you're bound to sweep them off their feet. 

9. Creature Romances: For the Ladies (PC)

In this Creature Romances installment, you take the role of a young high school girl by the name of Nanami who must choose between two boys: Kaito and Junya. She was childhood friends with each of these boys, but now not only are they teenagers but  each are leaders of rival school gangs. Oh, did I mention they’re not human? Kaito is a blue, jelly-like creature with multiple eyes and Junya is a pink insect.

Some people may find the romantic images of non-human creatures to be disturbing, but who am I to judge? If you find yourself in love with a six-foot-tall pink mantis man that’s your business, all I have to say is to follow your heart.

8. Crimson Gray (PC)

In Crimson Gray your choices really do affect the way the game plays out, especially the mental stability of the main characters. John has severe depression and he sees the whole world around him as gray, then he meets Lizzie a mentally unstable young woman. The moment he lays his eyes on her,  he knows that his life is changed. Lizzie is overall controlling, violent, and possessive, she’s too much for most men to handle. 

Not for John though. John is up for the challenge, but alas, some mountains shouldn’t be conquered and no matter how much you scream at John through the screen of your PC he just doesn’t listen.

7. Hatoful Boyfriend (PC)

When I played Hatoful Boyfriend for the first time, I thought it was going to just be a silly game about dating birds. Then the oh no, no, no, no, no, happened and I realized that my first assumption was horribly wrong. It’s not only a cute game about falling in love with birds, it’s also a horrific tale about a war between the human species and birds.

Hatoful Boyfriend is a post-apocalyptic horror game disguised as a dating simulator. There are fourteen different endings. Trust me, just after playing through a few of these endings you’ll never look at a pigeon the same way again.

6. Amnesia: Memories (PC)

As the title of the game suggests, you play as a young lady who has lost all of her memories. Instead of going to a doctor to get everything checked out, you have her choose one of five gentlemen to be her boyfriend. Each of these men is literally a porcupine of red flags and they each represent a playing card suit; heart, diamond, club, spade, and then there’s the joker.

This game has an astounding 16 bad endings you can land yourself in, not to mention a few of the ‘good endings’ are a tad more sadistic than some of the bad ones. Honestly, sometimes it’s just better to be single. 

5. Song of Saya (PC)

Song of Saya is disturbing! I’ll say it again just in case not everyone heard. SONG OF SAYA IS DISTURBING! If you’ve never heard of it, you might be intrigued by my warning. It’s probably not that bad, you say. Well, guess what! It is that bad! Now, this is not the type of game you’d want to play for fun because the grotesqueness of it all really does outweigh any joy that might come from playing such a game.

This is a horror romance game where you follow the story of Fuminori Sakisaka, a young med student who was involved in a car accident that left his brain scrambled. He has severe agnosia and it changed his perception of the world. Everything is fleshy, squishy, and full of gore. The walls, the sky, his bedsheets, everything is disgusting! Even his friends appear to be horrific eldritch monsters, except one person. Saya. 

4. Doki Doki Litterature Club (PC)

Doki Doki Literature Club is a psychological horror game that begins as a usual dating simulator. If you’re going in blind and you ignored the warning at the beginning of the game, you’re about to have a nightmarish adventure. You start off the game as the MC who follows their childhood friend, Sayori, into joining their high school literature club. Sounds like a good, wholesome start, you are then introduced to the other members of the club: Natsuki, Yuri, and Monika. 

Now, what can possibly be so scary about this game? Glitchy jump-scares and disturbing events are just a few horrors that lurk behind this seemingly cute dating sim. Seriously, be mindful of the warning you see at  the beginning of the game, some of the subject matter seen throughout can be triggering to certain individuals. 

3. Saiko No Sutoka (PC, Android)

Saiko Chan is just a young high school student that loves her Senpai, in fact, she loves him so much she wants him dead. Isn’t young love simply adorable? 

You take the role of Akira who is trapped in his school. Your goal is to find the key and leave, simple enough, right? That is until you realize you're being stalked by Saiko. You’ll have to do your best to stay as quiet as possible while you're hiding from her, she has highly sensitive hearing. Being caught can possibly end in your death. 

Saiko has two modes, a murderer mode, and a friendly mode. While she’s in her friendly mode she’ll help you and follow you around the school. Beware, not to do something annying and trigger her murderer mode. Do your best to guide Akira throughout the school and find the key to freedom.

2. Catherine: Full Body (PS4, Nintendo Switch)

Catherine: Full Body is a remake of Catherine, with a few new added details and a newly love interest by the name of Rin. 

In Catherine: Full Body, you play a young man by the name of Vincent Brooks, who is cheating on his girlfriend Kathrine with a woman named Catherine. Ever since he met Catherine, he’s been having nightmares. In these nightmares, you’ll have to arrange and climb a tower of blocks to reach the top. This isn’t always as easy as it sounds, not to mention if you’re not fast enough the blocks will fall which will inevitably lead to your death as well. This game comes with multiple endings, so do your best to explore them all and discover different parts of the story.

Who wouldn’t want a smooch from a beautiful eldritch beast? 

In Sucker for Love, that is your number one goal. Your job is to complete a series of rituals in order to grow closer to your beloved and snag that sexy kiss. After completing the first date, not only can you continue to date Ln’eta, but two other lovely ladies as well. Be sure to appease each goddess without messing up or you could find yourself dead. 

This game has amazing art and character design, as well as great voice acting to pull everything together. With multiple endings, this game is definitely a must-play if you haven’t already given it a try.
