Middle-Earth: Shadow of War Best Abilities [Top 10]

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War Best Abilities
All of Mordor is About to Wet Themselves

How Does Revenge Grow?

A quest that started for vengeance. Through that vengeance, a quest for peace. Instead, the vengeance evolves.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor provides the means for Talion to progress into being unstoppable. The game’s follow-up, Shadow of War, expands on those abilities to create something ridiculously fun.The options to incite chaos are countless.

Here are my top 10 abilities available on Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. Some change the game completely, others are fun to try for a bit, others are perfect for certain situations.

10. Shadow Strider

Ain't Celebrimbor graceful?

  • Unlocks a double-jump
  • Cross a city in three or four leaps
  • Cuts running time in half

9. Elven Agility

Stalk the streets like the spirit you are.

  • An all-around fundamental
  • Silent Runner upgrade eliminates all noise when Talion sprints - cruise easy through crowded streets
  • Spectral Dash is ideal for quiet killing

8. Wraith Shield

It's about time that grumpy old elf helps out.

  • Celebrimbor will protect Talion as he performs a ground execution
  • Solves the most irritating aspect of the game, in my opinion

7. Spectral Glaive

Sweep orcs around like the garbage they are.

  • Unlocks a spear that clears a swath of ground around Talion
  • Deadly Striker upgrade grants an additional strike with the Glaive, doubling the orcs Talion knocks down
  • Endlessly useful in a swarm

6. Detonate

An oldie from the first game, and still just as good.

  • Shadow Strike into a campfire to detonate it
  • Upgrade to unleash spiders or ghuls from the fire
  • Bursting Arrow detonates campfires from a distance
  • A must-have no matter how it’s used

5. Elven Light

Brighten up everyone's day.

  • Use a full Might bar to instantly clear some space
  • Especially useful when being swarmed
  • Upgrade to unleash a ring of fire, frost or poison
  • Between this and the Glaive, cutting through a horde essentially becomes a matter of timing

4. Bird of Prey

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

  • Use focus to aim elf-shot mid-air
  • Shadow Strike from the sky
  • Talon Strike upgrade unlocks an earthquaking groundstrike that stuns all surrounding enemies

3. Poison Tendril

Get the party started.

  • Easy mass chaos at a click
  • Bursting Toxin gets a little nasty but is nonetheless fun
  • Contagion will start orc-brawls

2. Death Threat

A fascinating way to take it a little too far.

  • Shadow of War’s variety of gear makes Death Threat doubly valuable
  • Worse Than Death can make an orc deranged or manic
  • You can push this pretty far, it can get a little intense
  • Create a challenge

1. Elven Rage

End the fight. Now.

  • Caught in a dicey situation? This gets you out of it
  • With full Wrath, unleash Elven Rage and drop as many orcs as you can before the timer runs out
