If you are looking for free low-commitment horror games that you can try out and play with a couple of friends - then this is the list for you! Fortunately, there are many good free multiplayer horror games that you can check out right now!

10. Hide And Shriek

Hide And Shriek is a 1v1 horror game in which the goal is to rack up as many points as you can in a single round. The point is to spook your “enemy” by setting a variety of traps that the opponent can trigger.

The game isn’t very serious, it’s not a classic horror game, but it still classifies as horror due to its thematic. It’s a very fun game to play with a friend. Because you will be competing against each other, it feels very rewarding when you can successfully predict and spook your friends in this game.

9. SCP: Secret Laboratory

SCP: Secret Laboratory is a first-person multiplayer survival horror game. During a containment breach in the SCP foundation, many anomalies escaped their containment. This game has 6 different roles you can have randomly assigned at the start of the match, all with a unique goal.

This game relies heavily on teamwork to achieve victory, SCPs have their shortcomings, so learning them and mastering all of the game’s classes will be a key to victory. This game has a decent player base and is a chaotically fun experience even if you do not wish to master the gameplay.

8. Codename: CURE

Codename: CURE is a zombie-shooter game that was made in the Source engine (Counter Strike 1.6 and Half-Life are also made in the Source engine). It features multiple game modes. You can play co-op or PVP and both game modes are fun.

The game doesn’t have a story, but it really doesn’t even need one. It’s fun enough to gather a group of friends and shoot zombies. The game has multiple classes which you can take before the match starts. Each class has different weapons and unique perks.

7. Dead Frontier 2

Dead Frontier 2 is an MMORPG in a zombie apocalypse. The game is pretty easy to understand, you create your character and then you level him up by doing quests and fighting zombies. It’s pretty interesting to play an MMORPG in this kind of setting.

It has an interesting mix of melee and ranged combat. The game is actually way prettier than what I expected a free-to-play game to be. The combat is fun and there are a variety of enemies to face. There are bosses that you can encounter while doing your quests which are loads of fun.

6. SAS: Zombie Assault 4

SAS: Zombie Assault 4 is an interesting zombie-shooter game that has some very interesting RPG elements. You can play as 3 classes which all have different skill trees that you can slowly upgrade. You also collect weapons and armor that you use to further customize your character towards your play style.

The game can be played as a single player or co-op. It’s fun either way and it’s nice that the game is played from the bird’s eye view. The leveling mechanic is interesting since it adds a lot of freedom to your play style. The game has nice and unique graphics and I totally recommend it.

5. No More Room In Hell

No More Room In Hell is a co-op game that is surprisingly a lot different than other zombie shooter games that you can play. It’s a very VERY slow-paced game. It makes you focus on planning and carefully executing your plan, rather than shooting every zombie that comes into frame.

I recommend this game because even if it’s slow, it’s very fun. You and your friends will be figuring out different strategies for different maps, and you will constantly be improving your gameplay because the main part of the game is strategizing and communication. It’s a very refreshing take on the zombie shooter subgenre that tries to make you feel like you’re in a real zombie outbreak.

4. Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodhunt

Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodhunt is a battle royale where different vampire factions are locked in gang wars on the streets of Prague. The factions are very different from one another, which makes it pretty easy to find which one looks and works best for you.

The game has a lot of mobility. And while of course, it has a lot of gunplay, the mobility is my favorite thing about the game. Whether you need to escape from an enemy or you need to hunt down your prey, you will always be traversing the map as fast as you can. The game’s aesthetic is amazing and beautiful.

3. Cry Of Fear

Cry Of Fear is a game that started out as a Half-Life mod. It can be played both as a single-player game and co-op with friends. The campaign lasts 8 hours, which is a lot more than what I would expect from a free game. The game is pretty high quality and the story is interesting and well-developed.

What’s neat about Cry Of Fear is that there are many interesting and detailed guns. There are fun enemies and the game seems like Silent Hill was one of its inspirations. The game is certainly the best single-player horror experience that you can play for free, and it’s even more fun with friends.

2. Video Horror Society

Video Horror Society or VHS is a recently released asymmetrical horror game where teens face off with the monsters straight from the 1980s VHS tapes. The game is very colorful and unique in design, completely immersing you in the 80s neon and radical vibe.

The gameplay features 4v1 matches with a team of teens facing off against one of the horrific monsters. The gameplay is pretty much what you would expect from an asymmetrical horror game, with a few minor tweaks. The complete aesthetic of the game is its biggest strength. It’s a very interesting game to play, especially if you gather a few friends to play it with you.

1. Deceit

Deceit is a multiplayer social deduction game in which you play either as an infected or as one of the survivors. There are 4 survivors and 2 infected in a single match. The goal of the infected is to kill the survivors when the lights go out. The infected need to stay undercover, because they can get voted off by the survivors.

Deceit is one of the most popular social deduction games - and rightfully so. Both ‘factions’ are fun to play as and require a lot of strategic thinking. The matches are fun and mostly based around deceiving the opponents and figuring out when someone is lying. The graphics are great and it’s one of the most high-quality social deduction games.
