You either love them or you don't; demons all across different anime's are either heroes or the most horrendous enemies. In these anime's evil demons are not spared their lives, and demon hunters across our favorite shows aren't letting them live. Here are the Top Ten Demon Hunter Anime!

10. Omamari Himari

A troubled teenager named Yuto Amakawa is still dealing with the fact that his parents were killed in a car accident seven years ago, leaving him with one relative. The only thing he has left of them is an amulet from his great grandmother. Since that day, his best friend Rinko Kuzaki and her family have cared for him on their own.

On his 16th birthday, he suddenly meets Himari, a cat demon samurai girl. Himari tells him that his ancestors were a part of the twelve Demon Slayer families that had been destroying demons since the feudal era, and that he is a demon slayer himself. Himari tells him that she has sworn an oath to protect him from any and all demons, but because of his cat allergies, things become complicated.

Throughout the series, Yuto meets other girls that become his allies. Shizuki, a mizuchi or water deity in the form of a small child. Lizlet, a tsukumogami or artifact spirit in the form of a maid. And finally, Kuesu, another Demon Slayer, who is Yuto’s fiancée and someone he once knew. Throughout the series, Yuto meets many friends and foes, and eventually makes a life altering decision concerning humans and the ayakashi.

9. Fire Force

It is the year 198 of the Solar Era in Tokyo, Japan. Special Fire Force’s battle bravely against what is known as Spontaneous Human Combustion. Humans are turning into walking infernos, beings that people call “Infernals.” The Infernals are called First Generation cases of this horrific phenomenon, while later generations have the new power to control their fire and use it as weapons.

A young Infernal, Shinra Kusakabe, who gained the moniker “Devil’s Footprints” from being able to ignite his feet when he desires, chooses to join Special Fire Force Company 8. Special Fire Force Company 8 is a group of fellow flame users that are working to destroy others like them. As a rebel group forms, Shinra unravels the true cause of his family’s destruction via a mysterious fire.

8. Dororo

A young ronin named Hyakkimaru and orphan thief Dororo unite together during the Sengoku period of Japan. Hyakkimaru was born malformed, limbless, without facial features, and without organs. This was due to his birth father Daimyo Kagemitsu Daigo forging a pact with 48 sealed demons so that he could become ruler of the land to increase its wealth and prosperity. He then gave the demons what he promised them, which was the freedom to destroy and kill wherever they wanted.

Hyakkimaru was left by a river for dead, that is until a medicine man rescued him, giving him prosthetics and weapons so that he could survive. Despite not being able to hear, see, or feel, it’s become his job to slay every demon that took him as a sacrifice. For each one he kills, he gets back a part of himself that was stolen from him. Years into his journey he meets Dororo, who chooses to join him in his fight for survival.

7. Devil May Cry

A man named Dante runs a devil hunting business named Devil May Cry while suffering under consistent financial debt. Dante’s agent Morrison visits frequently to offer him advice and job opportunities, while Patty Lowell, an orphan girl he rescues in the first episode, forms a type of father-daughter relationship with him.

While he struggles financially, he does the best he can with his jobs, and is an incredibly powerful demon slayer himself.

6. Chrono Crusade

At the peak of the roaring 20s, an organization named the Order of Magdalene, made of the characters Sister Rosette Christopher and her soul-bound demon Chrono, fight the demonic threats that are suddenly appearing all over America. 

They are driven by a dark past, searching for Rosette’s lost brother Joshua, who was taken from her by Aion, a demon who has history with Rosette’s partner, Chrono. Aion wants to destroy America by tipping the balance between Heaven, Earth, and Hell. Rosette and Chrono have to do all they can to rescue Joshua without helping Aion destroy the earth.

5. Demon Slayer

In Taisho era Japan, Tanjiro Kamado and his sister Nezuko search for a cure to remove Nezuko’s demon curse. But as they travel, they get mixed up with a secret society named the Demon Slayer Corps, an organization that had been fighting an underground war against demons for many centuries.

In this realm, demons are former humans who chose to sell their humanity for large amounts of power. They feed on humans and have supernatural abilities as well as super strength, magic, and the ability to regenerate. Demons can only be killed if they are fully decapitated with weapons crafted from a metal known as Sun Steel, filled with poison from wisteria flowers, or the exposure to sunlight. The Demon Slayers themselves are human, and they implement a strategy known as “total concentration breathing,” which gives them extra abilities to fight.

Tanjiro has a kind heart, an intellectual personality, and lives in the mountains with his parents. That is until he becomes the family’s sole source of income when his father dies. After arriving back home from a trip to the local village one day, he enters his home to find his family cruelly slaughtered by a demon. He and Nezuko are the only ones left.

Nezuko was transformed into a demon, but still possesses human traits, emotions, and thoughts. After meeting a Demon Slayer named Giyu Tomioka, Tanjiro is recruited as a Demon Slayer so he can turn his sister human again and avenge his family.

4. D.Gray-Man

In this world, losing a loved one can be so traumatic that all one wants to do is resurrect them. This is a human weakness that the mysterious Millenium Earl exploits from the people. In order to create his mechanical weapons, “Akuma,” he requires the souls of the dead, souls he brings back from the afterlife. Once the soul is placed in the Akuma, it is trapped for eternity, the only way to free it being destroying the Akuma with an anti-weapon known as “Innocence.”

After three years of serving as General Cross’ disciple, Allen Walker was sent to the Black Order, an order of those willing to fight the Akuma and Millennium Earl, to become a professional Exorcist. He has an arm for an Innocence and a cursed eye that has the ability to see the souls within the Akuma. From this point, Allen and the others try their hardest to prevent Millennium Earl from destroying the world.

3. Soul Eater

Death City is where the infamous Death Weapon Meister Academy resides, a technical academy headed by Shinigami, Lord Death. The mission of the academy is to raise “Death Scythes” for Lord Death to use against the evils and demons of their world. But Death Scythes are not forged like a regular weapon; they are born from human hybrids who possess the ability to transform into demon weapons. However, this only takes place after they have absorbed ninety nine evil beings and one witch’s soul.

Evan, a Demon Scythe only caring about what he thinks is cool, strives to become a Death Scythe with the assistance of the meister Maka Albarn. They work together with Black Star and his caring weapon Tsubaki, along Lord Death’s son, Death the Kid, a compulsive child and wielder of the twin pistols Patty and Liz.

The students of Shibusen collect souls while protecting the city from outside threats, working together to reach their goal.

2. Slayers

Sorceress Lina Inverse travels the continent, stealing from bandits and destroying demons that happen to cross her path. When a band of thieves ambush her in the forest, Lina is about to destroy them swordsman Gourry Gabriev appears. He assumes Lina is in danger, and defeats them, choosing to escort Lina to the city. As much as she doesn’t want to, she accepts.

But without realizing it, she had taken a strong magical item from the bandits’ spoils, and now two men are chasing her to use the item for negative purposes. As Lina and Gourry refuse to give up the item, they travel the country, meeting a young princess Amelia, a type of monk named Xellos, a cursed man named Zelgadis, and others along the way. The slay demons across the continent while trying to complete their goal of slaying the ultimate demon.

Top Demon Hunter Anime: InuYasha

Kagome, a normal fifteen year old girl, has her life turned around when a demon drags her into the Bone Eater’s well in her family’s Shinto shrine. When she climbs back out, she finds herself five hundred years back to the Feudal Era instead of her current time. It is discovered that she has the highly sought after Shikon Jewel inside of her, something all demons of the world desire to gain more power.

After releasing a young half demon named InuYasha so that he could destroy the demon attacking Kagome, and after the jewel is shattered, Inuyasha and Kagome reluctantly pair up to find the shards while destroying any demon they might come across. Following the two are a small fox-demon Shippo, a monk named Miroku, a demon slayer named Sango and her demon cat Kilala. They spend the series fighting the demons they see while gathering the shards before the ultimate demon, Naraku, does.
