Open-world RPG games are one of the most popular game genres of all time, with major titles such as Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, among others, having altered each new release to be more in the direction of an open-world, non-linear RPG, despite having started out as very linear narrative-driven games.

According to its developers, 20 years ago, ‘Outcast’ pioneered the genre of non-linear open-world games. Considering the state of the gaming world 20 years ago, it’s a fair bet that this is true.

‘Outcasts 2: A New Beginning’ resurrects ‘Cutter Slade’ a former Navy SEAL and the hero of the first ‘Outcasts’ game and brings him back to save the world yet again. Adelpha, the alien world of the Talans, has gone severely backward since Slade was last there, with an invasion of alien robots, complete depletion of all-natural resources, and the enslavement of the native Talans.

Players will need much more than Cutter’s dry wit if they wish to free the Talans of their oppressors and drive out the invading robot army. Cutter is equipped with a jetpack that allows players to travel around the map rapidly and perform combat maneuvers such as gliding and air-dashing.

A key element of the game is collecting weapons modules and combining them in unique ways to create unique personal weapons that are customized to the player’s playstyle, allowing them to cut through the robot armies like a hot knife through butter.

The world of Adelpha is filled with hidden temples, dangerous wildlife, and richly cultured Talan villages that need to be freed from the invading robots.

‘Outcasts 2’ is developed by ‘Appeal Studios.’ The release date is yet to be determined but is suspected to be in the near future.
