Becoming a soldier of fortune, or a mercenary if you will, can be a highly lucrative prospect. However, the real question is, is it worth the risk? After all, the only reason it pays well is that it is literally a life-threatening occupation. What use is a stack of cash to a dead guy?

In ‘The Iron Oath’ players take command of a mercenary company in the fictional world of Caelum. Players must build their company from the ground up. They are responsible for hiring and training new mercenaries, preparing squad rosters, and obtaining new gear, weapons, and supplies.

Players must choose which contracts to accept, bearing in mind the financial gain, risk, and long-term impact on the company’s name and political relationships. Every decision must be to benefit and grow the company. One mistake could mean its downfall.

Each mission must be carefully planned in order to overcome powerful enemies, avoid deadly traps, and successfully utilize the environment for strategic advantage. As time progresses, players will lose mercenaries to the ravages of age and battle and will need to recruit new, young fighters to keep the company going strong.

Players must keep up with changing times, adapting their tactics and political strategies to keep the people they serve happy. Careful financial management is essential to ensure that the company grows and is improved with new weapons and gear, better training, and more advanced fighting tactics.

It is crucial that players pick their roster carefully to maintain a well-rounded force with a balance between warriors, spellcasters, and rogues so that they will be well-prepared for any fight they may need to face.

‘The Iron Oath’ utilizes a tactical turn-based combat system, making careful planning and strategic use of abilities essential. The game is developed by ‘Curious Panda Games,’ and is coming to Steam on 19 April 2022.
