[Top 3] Team Fortress 2 Best Spy Loadouts That Are Great

[Top 3] Team Fortress 2 Best Spy Loadouts That Are Great

In Team Fortress 2, your playstyle isn’t only decided by your class, but the loadout you choose to go with as well. TF2 has a wide array of weapon choices with all sorts of gimmicks that allow you to lean into certain playstyles.

While it’s widely agreed upon that the default weapons are the best and the most versatile, the question of “best loadouts” is so popular because playing these weapons is simply fun. And in a game like TF2, fun is  enough! So, with that aside, here are some of my favorite loadouts for the Spy from TF2.

1. Diamondback + Conniver’s Kunai + Invisibility Watch

This loadout (and any other one using the Dead Ringer) isn’t very popular anymore due to the Dead Ringer’s nerfs, but I still think it has some merit, at least within casual matches. This loadout encourages quick and clever escapes with the speed boosts the Big Earner and Dead Ringer provides, as well as the buff to cloaking that the Le’tranger gives.

If you appear stuck in the classic spy syndrome of dying after every time you get a kill, then maybe give this loadout a try!

Loadout Details:

1. Diamondback

  • Gives one guaranteed critical hit for each building destroyed with your sapper or backstab kill.
  • 15% Damage Penalty
  • No Random Critical Hits

2. Conniver’s Kunai

  • On Backstab: Absorbs the health from your victim!
  • -55 max health on wearer

3. Invisibility Watch

Advantages:

  • Getting a backstab will not only give you a big health buff, but will also grant you a guaranteed critical hit. This will give you an advantage if there are enemies nearby who have discovered you after a backstab.
  • Sapping enemy buildings and getting guaranteed critical hits for it will give you an edge in spy vs. engineer situations.
  • The health buff the kunai provides, as well as the damage resistance you receive while cloaked will help you make escapes as well.

2. Le’tranger + Big Earner + Dead Ringer

1. Le’tranger

  • +40% Cloak Duration
  • +15% Cloak on Hit
  • 20% Damage Penalty

2. The Big Earner

  • +30% cloak on kill
  • Gain a speed boost on kill
  • -25 max health on wearer

3. Dead Ringer

  • Cloak Type: Feign Death
  • Leave a fake corpse on taking damage and temporarily gain invisibility, speed and damage resistance.
  • +50% Cloak Regen Rate
  • +40% Cloak Duration
  • -50% cloak meter when Feign Death is activated.

Advantages:

  • The Le’tranger and Big Earner cover for the Dead Ringer’s downsides, allowing it to be the perfect escape kit.
  • The mix of the Big Earner and Dead Ringer gives the spy constant speed boosts, which they can do to pursue other kills or make a quick escape.

3. Le’tranger + Your Eternal Reward + Invisibility Watch

The classic “Saharan Spy” loadout that’s been a staple among spies since 2013. While it’s gone through changes during updates, the playstyle still survives in the form of its current loadout. With the invisibility watch and the Le’tranger providing a lot of cloaking time, the spy can use its Your Eternal Reward to deal silent kills.

In the hands of a good spy, the enemy team won’t even notice they’re being harassed by a spy until it’s their turn to get backstabbed!

Loadout Details:

1. Le’tranger

  • +40% Cloak Duration
  • +15% Cloak on Hit
  • 20% Damage Penalty

2. Your Eternal Reward

  • Upon a successful backstab against a human target, you rapidly disguise as your victim.
  • Silent Killer: No attack noise from backstabs.
  • +33% Cloak Drain Rate
  • Normal disguises require (and consume) a full cloak meter.

3. Invisibility Watch

Advantages:

  • The Le’tranger helps cover for the YER’s downsides with its +40% Cloak Duration.
  • The YER guarantees that you won’t need to escape right after getting a backstab in many situations, thanks to its instant disguise and silent kill features.
  • If you need to disguise normally, you can quickly regain your cloak meter by picking up ammo boxes, provided you have good knowledge of the map you’re playing on.
