10 Fun Things To Do In Project Zomboid

10 Things to do for fun in Project Zomboid
Players working together to build a house

1) Join a multiplayer game

One of the most fun things to do in Project Zomboid is to host or join a multiplayer game, or you can join a server. The multiplayer experience can be PVP or PVE, and it’s easy to change these settings without leaving your game.

Multiplayer games are a fantastic way to have fun with friends! I find Project Zomboid great for co-op experiences because it’s easy to mod if you want to spice up your gameplay, and you get to play with or against other people. This adds the challenge of needing more supplies for your friends, but you also have more manpower, which gives you an advantage over hordes.

2) Explore the Louisville Mall

One of the largest buildings in the current base game is the Grand Ohio Mall. The mall is located at the top right of the map.

The map shows a huge building with a variety of useful stores. But the real challenge is fighting off hundreds of zombies that are waiting inside in order to access the stores. It’s a fun challenge for any player, and the rewards are fantastic. Inside, there is a gun store, furniture stores, clothes stores, and even an art gallery if you’re looking for something to decorate your base.

3) Try an all-negative trait playthrough

All negative traits

If you’re starting a new playthrough and are looking for another challenge, you can use the traits to create a more intense gameplay experience.

If you want to play Project Zomboid on its highest difficulty, you can choose all of the available negative traits and add them to your character. This gives you a unique playthrough where your character isn’t quite suited for the apocalypse. You’ll be deaf, which makes this even more difficult since you won’t be able to hear any zombies. This makes you pay a lot more attention to what’s happening, though, so you won’t be able to play like this on autopilot.

4) Try the challenges in-game

Kingsmouth challenge

When you’re first setting up a new game, there is a section under playstyle that offers nine different challenges.

Some of the challenges that are really fun are the House in the Woods challenges, Kingsmouth, and You Have One Day. The House in the Woods challenges both have your character spawn in a cabin in the middle of the forest. In the cabin are supplies. Most importantly, weapons The goal is to survive as hordes spawn and start breaking into your house.

The Kingsmouth Challenge offers players a new, smaller map located on an island. The You Have One Day challenge gives players twenty-four in-game hours to gather supplies before hundreds of zombies spawn and hunt them down.

5) Clear the Knox Prison

Another large building that’s fun to clear of zombies is the Knox Prison, which is located right outside of Rosewood.

The prison is a fun location to clear off zombies due to the huge hordes lurking inside. Once cleared, the building can be made into a pretty fun base, with lots of room if you’re playing multiplayer with friends.

6) Build your own house

A custom base

One of the most important parts of playing Project Zomboid is having a secure base. Customizing your own base is not only necessary but also really fun.

There are endless possibilities for how you want to make your base special, from adding new rooms to completely building your own base from the ground up. There are also many different decorations and knickknacks that players can put in their houses.

7) Try to clear the town or city

If clearing the mall or prison is too easy for you, maybe you should try clearing out whole towns of zombies.

This is a very long process and takes some serious dedication, but players may try clearing all the zombies from a town. Just make sure to stock up on ammo and melee weapons first. This is an especially fun idea if you’re playing with a group of friends.

8) Complete the corn maze outside of Louisville

A corn maze

Outside of Louisville, there is a bit of farmland, and among the farms is a small fair with food stalls and a stage.

Inside the fenced fairgrounds, there is also a corn maze! Going through the maze by yourself or with friends is a fun little challenge and a fantastic detail added to the game. In the center of the corn maze, there’s a mannequin that you can take as your prize.

9) Try leveling up all your skills to level ten

Max leveled skills

One of the most laborious tasks in Project Zomboid is leveling up all your skills. There are currently twenty-six skills in the game, and two of these skills are passive and earned simply by fighting zombies and playing the game.

Leveling up all twenty-six skills to level ten will take time, but it’s fun and satisfying when you finally see all the yellow bars full.

10) Collect all the rare items

There are various items that are rare finds in Project Zomboid, and finding all of them is super exciting.

Some of the rarest items in the game include the katana, antique stoves, sledgehammers, the M16, and all eight stuffed animals.

The katana is one of the most coveted weapons in Project Zomboid since it can beat zombies with one hit. Though the katana is extremely rare and can be found in boarded-up survivor houses, after sixty in-game days,it may be found in a zombie. Finally finding your first katana is so exciting, it makes searching for it worth it.

Other rare items, like the stuffed animals, are fun to find so you can display them in your base, though they serve no purpose. Furniture like the antique stove is rare to find in crates, though it can be found in a few cabins around the map. The antique stove is a useful item, as it can be used to cook and heat up your base in the winter, and it looks great.
