[Top 5] Medieval 2 Total War Best AI Mods For A Brand New Experience

5. Ultimate AI Mod

The Ultimate AI mod completely revamps Medieval 2’s AI to provide a much more realistic and challenging experience. Factions on the campaign map will now act much more sensibly; changes in relations are more gradual, alliances are much more trustworthy and rock solid as allies will defend each other whenever they can (though, backstabbing is still a possibility). and AI will no longer randomly and arbitrarily declare war.

These are only a few of the changes they make, they also improve battle and diplomacy AI, as well as tweak certain features of the game to improve the campaign’s overall experience.

Ultimate AI’s Appeal:

  • Overhauls Medieval 2’s AI in every aspect; campaign, diplomacy, battle, building and recruitment to create a more immersive experience.

4. Really Bad AI

Really Bad AI overhauls Medieval 2’s Battle AI. This makes each battle more challenging and rewarding. RBAI improves on the AI’s systems, improving its pathfinding and tactical abilities, while fixing a myriad of bugs and weird behavior, especially during sieges. This makes battles much more challenging and immersive since it’s easier to get the impression that you’re fighting an actual general, rather than Medieval 2’s clunky AI.

Really Bad AI’s Appeal:

  • Improves Medieval 2’s battle AI, improving its ability to make tactical decisions on the field. This makes battles much more fun and immersive.

3. Lands to Conquer

Lands to Conquer improves on several aspects of Medieval 2 without losing its original flavor. This includes improving the AI’s behavior, among other things. It also rebalances unit stats and campaign settings. Notably, it makes pike and two-handed units much more viable now, and it makes campaigns run longer as larger empires become harder to maintain.

It also adds three new custom campaign scenarios to the game, allowing the player to enjoy a different start from what they’re used to in vanilla.

LTC’s Appeal:

  • Along with AI improvements, LTC also improves on many balance and gameplay aspects of Medieval 2, particularly fixing the bugs with pike and two-handed units, making them viable in battle.

1. XAI Renovation Project

XAI not only improves the battle and campaign AI, but overhauls and renovates many of the game’s unused or outdated features, creating, in their words, “what vanilla should have been,” combining already existing mods with their own programming to achieve their goals. They have a myriad of fixed, rebalanced or added features into the game.

XAI’s Appeal:

  • XAI Renovation Project completely overhauls and renovates almost all of the game’s system, creating a highly fresh and polished take on Medieval 2’s vanilla vision.
