The Best Horror Games Markiplier has Ever Played

15. Andy’s Apple Farm (PC)

Andy's Apple Farm is a different sort of indie horror game. This game sure isn't your typical horror game, as your goal is to explore the farm and complete mini-games in what appears to be a glitching beta test from 1983. As you explore the farm, Andy and his friends experience moments of unusual behaviour. Andy's Apple Farm is creepier than it seems.

14. The Elevator (PC)

The Elevator is a short indie horror game inspired by the ‘80s. The player appears to be a front desk attendant at a creepy-looking hotel. You play what seems like a basic game until you get notified about a killer on the loose. You must try not to get murdered by the assassin. This game gives you quite a fright and even had me on the edge of my seat in anticipation.

13. The Man from the Window (PC)

The Man from the Window is a third-person horror game. Two rabbits, a mother and a child are the characters. The child fears a character from his bedtime story is after him. Mama Rabbit thinks her son just has a wild imagination until she hears a banging outside the window. Mama Rabbit must do everything she can to save her child from the sinister being outside. This game is worth playing.

12. Happy’s Humble Burger Farm (Switch, Xbox One/S/X, PS-4/5, PC)

Happy’s Humble Burger Farm is a thriller adventure game. You, as the player, must go to work every day to make money. You take orders and serve customers, but as you work, things aren’t what they seem. In this independent horror game, you experience all the elements of a great scare. I had so much fun playing this seemingly unassuming game until the scares come out of nowhere.

11. Devour (PC)

Devour is a terrifying survival horror. This is a co-op game and having an entire team to communicate with makes for a great gaming experience. You and your team must survive the cultists that try to take you to hell. This game is quite frightening. I do not recommend playing alone in the dark. This game is so much fun, but such a fright.

10. The Closing Shift (PC)

The Closing Shift is a horror game that relies mostly on jump scares to instil terror into the player. You play as a girl working the closing shift at a coffee shop. The Closing shift focuses on the tasks you would normally find in a coffee shop, interacting with the customers and completing orders. The game takes place over five days and you must find out how to survive.

9. Iron Lung (PC)

Iron Lung takes place in a small one-person submarine. It is very claustrophobic and you must navigate your way through an ocean of blood. The creepy surroundings and the loneliness while the eerie soundtrack plays in the background, just add to your feeling of unease. The game is difficult and frightening. The game is only one hour of gameplay so, it is satisfying to start and finish at once. This game has definitely earned its place as one of the most fun.

8. The Floor is Breathing (PC)

The floor is breathing is a psychological horror in which you play through the eyes of a serial killer. You are playing through the day before the serial killer gets captured. This game allows you an up-close look into the mind of a totally deranged person. Why does the floor breathe? Because the bodies underneath can’t. The story sounds straight out of an Edgar Allan Poe book; the game is just as insane. The Floor is Breathing is frightening. The game style makes it even more so.

7. My Friendly Neighborhood (PC)

My Friendly Neighbourhood is another example of how the style of the game can make it even more frightening. The game plays as a demented parallel to sesame street, with all the puppets running around. The end goal of My Friendly Neighborhood is to survive the puppets' playhouse as you try to stop the violent broadcast of the cancelled children’s show. Since the game took inspiration from our favourite show as a child, it’s no wonder My Friendly Neighborhood is fun for us as adults.

6. Leenie Boog (PC)

Leenie Boog is a survival horror where you meet a strange werewolf creature, and he will hunt you. Your job is to survive. No matter where you go, Leenie Boog will find you. Can you escape? I had so much fun playing this game and feeling the tingling fear trickle down my spine.

5. Claytown Horror (PC)

Claytown horror is a clay animated game set in the creepiest dollhouse of all time. Throughout the game, you hear whispers, which makes the game feel ominous right from the start. The player must solve the puzzles and get out alive. While this game is still just a demo, I do not doubt it will be one of the best-sellers upon release. Check Claytown Horror out on steam and support The Nightmare Jar in making us a fun, twisted adventure.

4. The Mortuary Assistant (PC)

The Mortuary Assistant plays as it sounds you work as an embalmer, but you aren't just dealing with the newly dead. There are long-dead forces at play. Solve the puzzles and complete your shift to finish the game. Easier said than done, that’s for sure. This game was scary and incredibly exhilarating. I felt like I had run a marathon by the time I finished it. Some of those jump scares are just intense.

3. Poppy Playtime (PC)

Poppy Playtime is a free-to-play horror game that centres around the character exploring his abandoned workplace. The old toy factory is full of creatures you must escape from while solving puzzles to figure out how the staff disappeared. There are various creatures out to get you. The use of jump scares makes Poppy Playtime a thrill for anyone.

2. Among Us (Android, iOS, Switch, Xbox One/X/S, PS-4/5)

Among Us is more of a family-friendly scare, which makes this game even more fun. You can play online with friends or locally. I enjoy playing this game with my children. It is scary enough to give all of us the creeps. The game uses darkness to build up your unease. The goal to win Among Us is to escape being murdered by the imposter. What could be more fun than fighting for survival?

1. Visage (Xbox One/X/S, PS-4/5, PC)

Visage is a psychological horror set in an old Victorian-style house, hiding a gruesome history. Where instead of monsters, your imagination influences your fright. Explore the paranormal and uncover the mysterious happenings around the house. Visage plays as a paranormal thriller, the way the power goes out and the doors close without cause makes this game fun to play as well as adds to the intensity.
