Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is an open world style, action RPG and is an original, non-canonical story set in the Lord of the Rings universe (the game supposedly takes place sometime between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings). You control Talion, a ranger who bonds with an elf lord wraith, seeking to avenge the deaths of their loved ones.

This game really highlights melee combat, sneak attacks and using wraith abilities to fight and manipulate enemies. Shadow of Mordor also introduces a nemesis system, which allows the NPCs to join in fights, remember the deaths of your character and react accordingly.
