[Top 10] Disco Elysium Best Items (Ranked)

There is no such thing as a useless item

While Disco Elysium has plenty of things to focus on, you wouldn’t want to miss out on items. Some of them would allow you to boost your stats, and some would unlock even more lore and character interactions. Here is the list of the 10 best Disco Elysium items, ranked:

10. Suzerainty

This box contains the key to bonding with your colleagues

As a big fan of Disco Elysium lore, I cannot avoid recommending Suzerainty. It will take some convincing, but you can play this “game of economic strategy for the whole family” with Kim.

Why Suzerainty Is Great

  • Unlocks more dialogue options with the Leutenant

Over the course of the game, you will learn things about yourself, and one of the great ways to start is learning more about your partner, Kim Kitsuragi. Playing Suzerainty with him will let you get to know him better.

  • Provides ore insight into the history of Revachol

As you will quickly figure out, Suzerainty is a political propaganda game. By reading the rulebook and actually playing it, you will learn more about Revachol’s culture.

  • Creates a nice break from the main storyline

Kim himself will mention it when convinced to play, but Suzerainty is a great way to give your investigative mind a break and focus on some good old ways to “keep the mind limber.”

How to Get Suzerainty

At some point early in the game, you will end up in a bookstore, which offers multiple items for sale, including the board game. You can purchase it for 12 Reál.

9. Icosahedral Dice Set “Sirens”

Very police-themed

Working on the the Investigate Doomed Commercial Area task for Plaisance, you will get to meet Novelty Dicemaker, who, for a price of 7 Reál, would make a dice set for you. Each of the several dice sets would reopen and reduce the difficulty of some White checks in the game.

Why the Icosahedral Dice Set “Sirens” Is Great

  • Ostensibly reduces the difficulty of several White checks

This is the only dice set that would reduce the check’s difficulty by 2, not 1, points. That would make deciphering the case files in the ledger that much easier!

  • Increases the chances of finding good stuff

Without spoiling it, there is a container that would be easier to open if you came into possession of these dice.

  • Makes it easier to get information out of some NPCs

These dice will help you get through some quests faster by helping you gain information from the Racist Lorry Driver and Lilienne’s Twins.

How to Get the Icosahedral Dice Set “Sirens”

Upon arriving at the top floor of the Doomed Commercial Area, interact with the Novelty Dicemaker. Pick the Icosahedral Dice Set “Sirens” and return in 9 hours to collect them and pay the 7 Reál price. Note: if you fail the Hand/Eye Coordination check, you will end up with the Icosahedral Red Die, which reopens a different set of White checks with less impressive difficulty reduction.

8. Army Surplus Winter Scarf

Ouch, itchy!

Revachol’s winters aren’t too warm, and field police work really calls for an extra layer or two. This simple yet endearing piece of neckwear is just the thing for warmth and fostering conversation.

Why Army Surplus Winter Scarf Is Great

  • Adds 2 points to Empathy

A skill with the most passive checks in the game, Empathy is the real deal if you want to maximize your dialogue options. This not-so-comfortable scarf will let you connect with the common folk throughout your investigation, for a small price of unbearable itchiness. You would have to lose a Composure skill point, I’m afraid.

How to Get the Army Surplus Winter Scarf

Speak to Lilianne, and then to her children in the village and ask about a boat. You’ll earn some XP along the way, too, and when you are ready, take the boat to the island. Once you get there, take the stairs up, walk through the main door and loot the Army Surplus Winter Scarf from the clothesline.

7. Mega-Bino's Prescription Lenses

Can't miss any clues with those

They say glasses make you look smarter, and Mega-Bino’s Prescription Lenses are no exception. They can really get your booksmarts going!

Why Mega-Bino’s Prescription Lenses Are Great

  • Increase your Encyclopedia skill by 2

Encyclopedia is not one of the skills players invest points in first, but it can come in handy in many situations. That’s where these stylish glasses come in, adding a whopping 2 points to your Encyclopedia skill. Probably not the best mix with the FALN “Pipo” Pipo, though, since these glasses would also lower your Perception by 1.

How to Get Mega-Bino’s Prescription Lenses

Access the Coast area - it will only be accessible on the third day. On the boardwalk, locate the container and loot the glasses.

6. FALN "Pipo" Pipo

The pipo of logical thinking

In terms of skill bonuses, the pipo is the best headwear you can get in the game. Nothing lets you think more logically than a stylish piece of sportswear.

Why FALN “Pipo” Pipo Is Great

  • Increases your Logic skill by 2

Maybe you put your points in something other that Intelligence, but worry not: this hat will increase your Logic skill by 2. Unfortunately, you will also lose a skill point in Perception.

How to Get FALN “Pipo” Pipo

Access the Coast area - it will only be accessible on the third day. In the southwesternmost area, locate the doghouse along with the building next to it. Find the container and loot the hat!

5. Yellow Plastic Bag Frittte!

It's not tacky if it's useful

In order to afford some of the items on this list, you would need some money, and Yellow Plastic Bag Frittte! Is a great way to make some extra cash. Equip it in one hand a a tool and start collecting tare as you explore various locations - you can sell those for 0.10 Reál apiece at the Frittte kiosk.

Why Yellow Plastic Bag Frittte! Is Great

  • Lets you make some extra cash

Money can be exchanged for goods and services. In the case of Disco Elysium, those can be stylish clothes, or a good read, or some drugs. As you go through the game, you will find items you will be able to sell for some cash, but when you first start, this plastic bag will help you get your financials in order.

  • Provides a reason to explore the world some more

You gotta find those cans and bottles somewhere, and who knows what else you find along the way.

How To Get Yellow Plastic Bag Frittte!

Exit the hotel and walk past the bookstore until you notice a man leaning against a wall next to a set of stairs. The item is located right next to him - you just need to pick it up, no checks!

4. Fairweather T-500 Gauntlets

How do you even bend your fingers in those?

T-500 is a truly impressive piece of armor, and it would be great to keep a memento from your big case. Especially if it helps you pick locks, if you ever need that.

Why Fairweather T-500 Gauntlets Are Great

  • Increases the Interfacing skill by 2

Repairing machines and picking locks can get you plenty far in Disco Elysium, and it is much easier to do with a higher Interfacing score.

  • Helps you get an achievement

If you collect and simultaneously wear all T-500 armor pieces, you will get the Fairweather t-500 Vitreous Enamel achievement. So if you are into that, the gloves will get you one step closer!

How to Get Fairweather T-500 Gauntlets

Investigate the T-500 armor as a part of the main storyline. Ask Cindy on the balcony near the ocean about it, then talk to Little Lily in the Fishing village. Go to the sand castle behind Little Lily’s shack and retrieve the gauntlets.

3. Pinball Maker's Coat

Now this is some investigative chic

Be just like everyone’s favorite (yet completely inaccurate) fictional detective Dick Mullen. Wear something like a trenchcoat. Look trustworthy and channel your inner pinball maker.

Why Pinball Maker’s Coat Is Great

  • Adds a point to the Empathy skill

All of those Empathy points won’t go to waste as they will let you get many more dialogue options.

  • Adds a point to the Hand/Eye Coordination skill

Every good detective needs to be able to aim a weapon in the general direction of a target, and Hand/Eye Coordination is responsible for exactly that. If it ever comes to using firearms or throwing objects, this coat would increase your chances of passing a check.

  • Helps unlock an easter egg

Getting this coat, along with Dick Mullen’s Hat, would make you look like a real fictional detective. Purchase the Dick Mullen and the Mistaken Identity book at the bookstore, read it, wear your Dick Mullen cosplay, and you are in for a surprise (and a neat achievement for the books).

How to Get Pinball Maker’s Coat

Access the pinball workshop in the Whirling-in-Rags cafeteria through the kitchen door or the roof door. Retrieve the coat from inside the drawer.

2. Flashlight

A trusted orb locator

You know those pulsating orbs you see sometimes as you go through the game? Well, there are more of them hiding in the dark - you just need the right tool to see them. Equip the Flashlight before entering a dark room.

Why the Flashlight Is Great

  • Helps you investigate

There are dark rooms hiding clues that would be a shame to miss. Good thing you have a portable light source now.

  • Learn more about the world, its inhabitants, and yourself

Clicking an orb in a game will provide you with information about the world, let you hear your own thoughts, open more dialogue options, and sometimes reveal a secret skill check. The Flashlight will let you see even more of those orbs as you explore the darkest corners of Revachol.

How to Get the Flashlight

Exit the hotel and look inside Kim’s car. Pick up the Flashlight from the toolbox.

1. FALN "Faln" Windbreaker

Stylish and useful!

Defend yourself from the elements by sporting a FALN windbreaker. It would give you those sporty vibes necessary to look a little scary to some people - and that can go a long way for an amnesiac detective.

Why FALN “Faln” Windbreaker Is Great

  • Increases your Half Light skill by 1

You are a cop, and some cops are threatening. If you are playing a non-threatening build, an extra Half Light point can help you intimidate some NPCs into sharing information.

  • Increases your Pain Threshold skill by 1

If you ever fail any check on a Physique skill, chances are your Pain Threshold will be passively checked. Fail it, and lose a health point; lose all health points and die. Bumping up your pain tolerance a little wouldn’t hurt.

  • Reduces your Drama skill by 1

This might not seem like a great thing, and sometimes it isn’t, but there is a time and a place to be dramatic. If your Drama score is already high, you might need to knock it down a point for some interactions.

How to Get FALN “Faln” Windbreaker

Once you find the Filthy Jacket on the boardwalk fence, take it to the Washerwoman in the Fishing Village. Ask her to wash the jacket for you, and voila! Fresh water-resistant drip!
