With the PS5 still taking off, we haven’t seen a whole lot of new golf games and ports from the last gen just yet. However, if you do own a PS5, the backwards compatibility features will spruce these stellar golf games right up on your next gen console.

If you still fear COVID and are looking for a mini-golf experience, this is as close as you’re going to get. 3D Mini Golf is a virtual but realistic mini-golf challenge with over 54 holes, 18 of which faithfully model official courses in the real world.

There’s not much here in terms of character choice, lighting, or anything all that fancy, but it’s a great foundation for some cool things to come from the small development team. If you're bored with friends and looking for a mini-golf experience on a rainy day, this is a great party game to check out.   

6. EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour (Xbox One, PS4)

Well, it's about time this champ got his own golf game. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is an entry in the EA Sports PGA Tour franchise, the first series since 1999 not to feature Tiger Woods.

There was some great effort made in ushering in a new generation of golf with the power of the Frostbite 3 engine, and there’s no doubt this franchise has potential. You can play the most beautiful courses with no load times, enabling you to explore authentic tournament courses or unique fantasy environments, opening up your golf experience like never before.

5. Party Golf (Xbox One, PS4, Switch, PC)

If you thought golf was boring, wait until you get a load of this. Party Golf is a realtime, multiplayer golf game, which is a twist on the golf video game genre. The aim is for players to race to the hole and attempt to be the first to sink their ball.

It's hard not to have fun with this given how fast paced, energetic, and colourful it tends to be. The controls are super intuitive, and if you’re with friends, the game is so addictive that you’ll look over some of the glitches the game has. Seriously, get your friends and take a swing.

4. Everybody’s Golf (PS4)

Finally, a golf course that feels alive. Everybody’s Golf is a single-player game that offers gamers the chance to unlock characters and items by competing in tournaments or by stroke play.

In case that didn’t make any sense, this is a cute and vibrant golf experience that lets you feel like you’re part of one big world. Aside from the refined, arcade mode controls, you can interact with players of your own accord and explore what the field has to offer by way of leveling up. With the choice to either tee off and/or be part of a larger community, what’s not to love?

Alright, now we’re talking creativity and innovation. Golf Club: Wasteland is an arcade-style game that projects a future where the well-heeled flee to Mars happens before the onset of an ecological catastrophe on Earth. You return from the Red Planet to Earth to hit links among the ruins.

Whoa! Say what?! Yeah, and it's as fun and pretty as it sounds. Who knew a golf game can tackle themes of climate change and Silicon Valley culture? And aside from that, the gameplay is stellar (pun intended), and will quench your golf thirst whether you're in it for the deep stuff or not.
