Welcome to the top 10 MOBA games for PC of 2021. Last time, I wrote a list for our mobile gamers out there, but how can we forget the PC users? We can’t so here’s the newest list on the most popular MOBAs out there currently.

All of the MOBA games mentioned below are available on steam (minus the 10th one, but don’t worry I will add the links to all necessary info to make it all one click away) and most are free to play too. 

Another big plus is that the PC MOBA genre offers more diversity and game uniqueness compared to mobile ones. Though classic layouts and mechanics aren’t a bad thing at all, after a long time, it can get a bit boring can’t it?

Therefore let’s dive into the top 10 best MOBA games for PC!

 

1. Dota 2

First off let’s start with a big League of Legends competitor Dota 2 by Valve. The game was first released on 2013 July 9th for Windows soon followed by a release for Linux and OS X systems 9 days later on the 18th of July.

Topping with over 1M+ positive reviews on steam for years now Dota 2 has become one of the MOBA classics.

The game features the typical MOBA type layout and controls, making it easy to get accustomed to for players who already have some experience with the game genre. It is also perfect for those who wish to have the classic MOBA experience to the fullest with all the numerous heroes, various game modes and exciting live battles against real foes.

 

2. SMITE®

Smite is another one of the most well-known games in this genre. Tho it takes a more unique approach and introduces MOBA from 3rd action point of view making you feel as if you’re there.

The game was released almost a year later after Dota 2 on 2014 March 24th for Windows, 2015 on August 19th for Xbox, 2016 May 31st for PS4 and February 19th in 2019 for Nintendo Switch platforms.

Featuring more than 100+ Gods to battle with for the ultimate supremacy in various games modes for the top. Community with over 35M+ players worldwide for extremely fast matchmaking.

Therefore if you wish to experience MOBA from a different perspective you can consider giving Smite a try.

 

3. Eternal Return

Eternal Return is one of the newest PC MOBAs out here. The game was released in 2020 on October 14th and still is in the early access phase. This means that it might contain quite a lot of bugs, but despite that, the game has received a lot of positive reviews making it to 3rd place on the list of steams most popular MOBA games.

The game has anime-style with more technology and science backstory compared to the usual typical fantasy setting.

Another unique feature of this game is that it’s a mix of both MOBA and Battle Royale giving a whole new experience to the players.

So this game is a good choice for people who are a fan of both game genres or wish to try something more unique and previously have enjoyed either one of these genres.

 

Battlerite

Battlerite is a game that was released on 2017 November 7th and currently is only available for Microsoft Windows.

The game has is quite similar to the classical MOBA gameplay, but added its uniqueness by introducing rounds and switching from classical 5 vs 5 to smaller team layouts of 3 or 2 players. Battlerite also offers several maps for different strategies with a 2-minute countdown till the map will begin to shrink to force players into battle. You have to secure 3 victories to win the match.

Therefore if you enjoy the excitement of the ticking time then this one might be the right one.

 

Awesomenauts - the 2D MOBA

The game Awesomenauts was released on 2012 August 1st and supports such platforms as Linux, macOS, Microsoft Windows, PS3, PS 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Making it available to a bigger audience, but sadly the game still doesn’t support cross-platform games. A big shame to say the least...

The game itself lets us experience the MOBA world in a 2D perspective with 3 vs 3 live battles in a sci-fi style. At the beginning of each match, you will get to choose your favourite awesomenaut based on their skills/abilities and battles against various obstacles such as drones, turrets and so on to reach the other team's Solar Collector and destroy it to claim victory.

So if you are a fan of 2D games give Awesomenauts a shot.

The Fault is a game similar to Smite because it offers a similar MOBA experience by making the game more immersive by using 3rd person’s perspective. The game itself is still new (was released in 2020 on July 17th) and still in the early-access stage like Eternal Return therefore more potential bugs to take note of.

Another thing I have to point out about this game is that it’s not free (on steam you can buy it for 16.79 euros). Which isn’t that expensive knowing the usual game prices, especially if it will go on sale later on.

The game also has a different way of gaining strengths than most classical MOBAs by using a milestone system along with classical in-game features such as slaying jungle mobs for boosters.

So if you aren’t scared off by the early-access games and want something similar to Smite this one might be the one!

 

Royal Crown

Royal Crown is one of the newest games released on 2021 February 24th. Having a mix of Battle Royale and MOBA genre styles in one. 100 players too much? While 5 vs 5 game is too boring? Well, what about going against 30?

Scared to take on this many players solo or just need help? If so you don’t have to worry, because you can choose a mode and slay your foes with 2 or more of your friends.

The classical champion classes will also make it easier to get a basic idea of how things work for the players. While planning survival tactics and how to get/use resources to the max.

Therefore if fighting massive battles is your forte try this game!

 

Heavy Metal Machines

Now this one is for the car and race enthusiast who just can’t get enough of road rage or have nowhere to put it.

The game was released on 2018 September 19th by Hoplon. Heavy Metal Machines AKA HMM is a MOBA game where you will be engaging in 4 vs 4 battles using machines instead of fantasy type characters bringing it a whole new flavour.

The road to victory in this game is in a ball and your team’s goal is to bring it to the enemy team’s goal at the track end.

So if you are feeling like releasing your road rage consider trying out this unique MOBA game.

 

Esports Life Tycoon

Now this game is wildly different from all the above MOBAs on this list because in this one you will take on the role of manager of a MOBA player team and train them to reach glory in the esports community. A completely new set up right?

The game is also fairly newly released on 2020 September 3rd. Though I have to add that the game isn’t free to play (19.99 euros), but is currently at a discount. Ahhh the good old wallet-emptying steam sales we all love.

In the game, you will get to pick and choose your players, train them from noobs to pros. And experience the coach rage during championships while making decisions on the spot to curate your team to victory. After all, what can be better than a raging coach for motivation, during the losing match? We all had those mad all-knowing coach type teammates before, didn’t we?

Therefore if you wish to know more about the inside MOBA industry try out this game and assemble your dream team to reach the top.

 

League of Legends

Now how can there be a top MOBA list without League of Legends AKA LOL included in it? I feel like if I hadn’t added it I would receive a lot of rage for forgetting the top MOBA game that made waves upon waves in the gaming industry and transforming it too. Therefore it’s here. Though the game isn’t available on steam feel free to download it by pressing the link.

Now we all know that the biggest two games are LOL and Dota 2 which dictated what is a classic MOBA genre currently. Hence the game layout, controls and other mechanics are classical-like 5 vs 5 live battles and tons of champions to choose from while mastering different lanes.

So if you wish to try and see what’s the hype about and have a thick skin (we all know that this game is also heavily known for its toxic community sadly) then go ahead and join in the battles.
