Final Fantasy 10: How To Get Every Celestial Weapon

In Final Fantasy 10, one of the best optional content is obtaining every Celestial weapon for your favorite characters. In this article, you will get all the information you need about each Celestial weapon.

In Final Fantasy 10, each character has a Celestial weapon that represents their ultimate weapon and heightens the characteristics of every member to the highest potential.

They are, without a doubt, the best weapons in the game and are essential for the post-end game of Final Fantasy 10. If you want to defeat the Dark Aeons, Penance, and the optional bosses of Monster Arena, possessing every Celestial weapon will make the job easier.

Each character’s best traits flourish with their Celestial weapon as they have distinguishable abilities between them. However, there are two that every Celestial weapon possesses: Break Damage Limit and Triple Overdrive.

These abilities alone make their weapons exceptionally powerful. Firstly, by the end of the game, you can easily deal 9999 damage with most characters, so having the possibility to break that limit will do wonders for your characters. Secondly, filling up your Overdrive gauge at triple the rate is essential for characters like Tidus, Rikku, and Wakka.

Remember: each character has two more abilities on their Celestial weapon, which we will dive into when explaining how to get every Celestial weapon.

Here is a list of all celestial weapons and how to get them:

The Celestial Mirror

Obtaining the Celestial Mirror is a necessary step to power up all of the Celestial weapons in Final Fantasy 10.

Before you venture into Spira to obtain every Celestial weapon, you need the Celestial Mirror, which allows you to create the full-powered version of each Celestial weapon.

Your first step is to visit the Remiem Temple in the Calm Lands. After crossing the bridge, go to the right side of the temple, where you’ll find a Chocobo. There, you will participate in a Chocobo race, and after winning it, you’ll get the Cloud Mirror as a reward.

To transform this Cloud Mirror into the Celestial Mirror, you must go to a special place in Macalania. This place will also allow you to power up your celestial weapons in the future.

Head to the Macalania Woods, near the Save Sphere. You must talk to the woman and child to start a mini-side quest: finding their husband/father. Luckily, it’s fast and easy.

You go east from their location and find a campsite where you will find the missing man. Talk to him and return to where you talked to the mother and child.

Now, their child is missing. To find him, you need to go up the crystal path near the Save Sphere, and you will find the kid and the special place that will make everything happen. Use the Cloud Mirror there, and you will get the Celestial Mirror.

You are ready to start searching for the Celestial Weapons.

You need three items for each character: the Celestial weapon, the Sigil, and the Crest.

Every time you gather all the items for the Celestial weapons, you must go to where you created the Celestial Mirror to make the full version of each.

Last advice before we start: make sure you have equipment with the ability No Encounters to make it more bearable and faster to complete the different quests.

Caladbolg (Tidus)

In this image, Tidus is obtaining the full-powered version of his Celestial Weapon, the Caladbolg.

Tidus' Celestial Weapon aligns perfectly with his personality and battle traits. Firstly, the blue and watery marks on Caladbolg seemingly represent his past as a Blitzball player and resemble a more fierce Brotherhood.

Regarding its abilities, besides the two that every Celestial weapon possesses, Caladbolg also has Evade & Counter and Magic Counter, considered two of the best abilities you can have on any weapon.

Each ability complements Tidus' speed and time abilities. With him on the team, you will attack first and increase each character's number of turns. So, having counters to physical and magical attacks allows Tidus to bombard the enemy with even more attacks.

Having Caladbolg means seeing Tidus flurry the enemies with attacks on counters or by his exceptional abilities, such as Quick Hit or Haste.

What Caladbolg Excels In:

  • Breaking the damage limit allows Tidus to become an exceptional physical attacker;
  • Countering both physical and magical attacks;
  • Evading physical attacks;
  • Complementing his time abilities with evasiveness and counterattacks.

How to Get Caladbolg:

As previously stated, you need three items to obtain the fully powered Celestial weapon.

First, you must go to the Calm Lands to obtain the sword. In the northwest region, you will find a slope that will get you to the weapon. However, a man is blocking the way.

You need to beat the Chocobo trainer at the Catcher Chocobo Race to get access to the weapon. After you win the race, go down the slope, touch the glyph on the wall, and you’ll get Caladbolg.

Sun Crest:

You can find the Sun Crest in a treasure chest in Zanarkand Dome, where you fought Yunalesca. You must head to the back and climb the stairs near the entrance: you will teleport to a room, and the Sun Crest will now be at the top of the stairs.

Beware of doing this right after you beat Yunalesca; otherwise, you must defeat Dark Bahamut (one of the most challenging bosses in the game) to obtain it.

Sun Sigil:

To obtain the Sun Sigil, you need to talk to the Chocobo trainer in the Calm Lands and complete every training exercise. After you complete everything, he will reward you with the Sun Sigil.

Nirvana (Yuna)

Yuna gets the win screen after defeating her enemies with the help of her Celestial weapon, the Nirvana.

Nirvana provides Yuna with the potential to become a menace on the battlefield with one exceptional ability: One MP Cost.

As a mage, Yuna relies heavily on her MP to cast powerful spells. If you complete Yuna’s Sphere Grid and venture into the black magic territory, she gets as powerful as anyone, even without considering her Aeons. Unfortunately, the MP will deplete fast by the later stages of the game if you rely on Yuna consistently.

Having an ability that reduces the MP cost to one will make Yuna flourish and devastate any enemy with spells such as Flare, Ultima, and Holy. The first two become even more potent with Doublecast.

Besides the One MP Cost ability, Yuna’s Celestial weapon possesses Double AP, allowing Yuna to expand her Sphere Grid faster. Getting boosted stats, mainly for Magic, is a fantastic ability.

What Nirvana Excels In:

  • Allowing Yuna to cast spells without MP limits;
  • Complementing the MP cost with the Break Damage Limit;
  • Enhancing Yuna’s versatility as a mage;
  • Increasing the AP earned per battle.

How to Get Nirvana:

To obtain the weapon, you must catch all the monsters in the Calm Lands (there are nine species to catch), and the Monster Arena owner will give you a treasure chest with Nirvana in it.

Moon Crest:

The Moon Crest you can get right at the start of the game when you reach Besaid Beach. The treasure chest containing the crest is in an alcove to the right of the beach.

Moon Sigil:

You need to go inside the Remiem Temple, in the Calm Lands, and defeat all Belgemite’s Aeons, eight in total. As a reward, you will get the Moon Sigil.

Masamune (Auron)

The picture shows Auron first showing off his Celestial weapon, the Masamune, near the statue of Lord Mi'ihen.

Auron’s primary purpose is as a damage dealer. His versatility isn’t great, but he gets the job done perfectly. Masamune allows Auron to flourish in his role and enhances his limitations.

Unlike Tidus or Wakka, Auron cannot perform multiple devastating attacks, so his output per strike needs to be incredible, and with Masamune, it is. Plus, he gets abilities that heighten Auron’s versatility, such as First Attack and Counterattack.

Auron’s lack of speed becomes obsolete with First Strike, making him an incredible option as a starter. Also, he can complement his First Strike with a fabulous bulky presence due to his massive HP pool.

Additionally, Masamune possessing Counterattack allows Auron to generate more power and attack more times. With his high stats in Strength and the Break Damage Limit of his Celestial weapon, any enemy must think twice before hitting the beloved Guardian.

What Masamune Excels In:

  • Enabling Auron to enhance his physical damage output;
  • Compensating for Auron’s lack of speed with First Strike;
  • Adding extra damage ability with Counterattack;
  • Allowing Auron to be a great starter.

How to Get Masamune:

Obtaining Auron's Masamune first requires you to find the Rusty Sword outside of the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth on the eastern side of the area at the end of the pathway.

Then, travel to the Djose Highroad. Go to the western side, where a stack of crates leads you to a different area. Follow the pathway until you reach a crossroads, and go north until you find an elevator.

Up there, you will find the statue of Lord Mi'ihen, interact with it, and use the Rusty Sword, which will cause a glyph to appear on the wall. Use the Celestial Mirror, and you'll get the Masamune.

Mars Crest:

You must travel to Mi'ihen Highroad and follow a path near the gate to the Mushroom Rock Road. At the end of the pathway, you will find a treasure chest with the Mars Crest.

Mars Sigil:

To obtain the Mars Sigil, you need to capture every species of monster in ten different areas. After completing it, you will get the Sigil as a reward.

World Champion (Wakka)

In the image, Wakka gets ready to use Attack Reels, the most devastating Overdrive in the game, with the crucial help of his Celestial weapon, the World Champion.

Wakka's Celestial weapon is all about Blitzball, so it's one of the most time-consuming Celestial weapons to obtain. If you hate playing Blitzball, you are in for a treat.

On the brighter side, it's one of the most critical Celestial weapons to obtain because Wakka, in the post-end game, has the most devastating Overdrive . Having Break Damage Limit will make your job easier to defeat the more brutal bosses.

Besides every Celestial weapon's two abilities, Wakka gets Evade & Counter and Double AP. As mentioned, the first is one of the best abilities for damage dealers. It's an ideal defensive and offensive solution - mainly if you fill Wakka's Sphere Grid with Strength.

The Double AP ability is helpful to grind up levels. For the story, there are better options than Wakka, and he can be under-leveled by the end of it, so having the ability to rack up nodes on your Sphere Grid is essential.

What World Champion Excels In:

  • Making Wakka the most devastating character, damage-wise;
  • Allowing Wakka to evade attacks and counter with immense power;
  • Leveling up at a faster rate, making it up for possible under-leveling in the story;
  • Filling up the Overdrive gauge at triple the rate allows you to use Attack Reels multiple times.

How to Get World Champion:

Get ready to delve into the world of Blitzball. It will be a long journey. First, to get the weapon, you must win five Blitzball games or get at least third place in a Blitzball tournament. After that, talk to the bartender at the Cafe in Luca, who will give you the World Champion.

Jupiter Crest:

Fortunately, this Crest is accessible: you must go to the Besaid Aurochs Locker Room in Luca, and you will find it in one of the lockers.

Jupiter Sigil:

The Sigil will appear as a 1st place prize in the Blitzball League. However, first, you need to get all Wakka’s Overdrives, and the last one, Auroch Reels, will take hundreds of games of Blitzball to appear. You must build a perfect team and skim through the games effortlessly. Unfortunately, even then, it will require a lot of patience.

Onion Knight (Lulu)

The image shows Lulu's win screen after demolishing all the enemies with her Celestial weapon, the cute Onion Knight.

Lulu’s Celestial weapon clears as the most infuriating one to obtain, and you’ll understand why in a bit. However, despite the frustration, Lulu is the character that needs it the most.

Her prowess as a valuable party member decreases as you venture through the story and hits rock bottom at the end. As such, having her Celestial weapon is crucial to revitalize her badassery and destroy every enemy along the way with Lulu.

Lulu is our black mage and relies on her MP pool. Despite being immense, it depletes fast if you depend on Doublecast Flare, for example. By the end of the game, you deal 9999 damage easily, but you can’t use the spells that often.

Onion Knight solves all Lulu’s problems by adding the One MP Cost ability to her arsenal, making it accessible to cast Doublecast as you wish. Additionally, Onion Knight also provides Magic Booster, which increases every spell by 50%.

As you can imagine, Lulu’s Renaissance is epic to watch as you cast double-Flare or double-Ultima with damage output over 9999.

What Onion Knight Excels In:

  • Unlocking Lulu’s potential as a fantastic character;
  • Boosting Lulu’s magical stats and damage output;
  • Allowing to cast powerful spells with no MP depletion.

How to Get Onion Knight:

You can find the weapon in a treasure chest underwater outside the Baaj Temple after you defeat Geosgaeno. You must talk to Cid on the Airship and access the coordinates option to get there. Then, use these to access the temple: X=11-16, Y=57-63.

Venus Crest:

You obtain the Venus Crest in the Farplane, in Guadosalam, in a treasure chest.

Venus Sigil:

Obtaining the Venus Sigil is probably the most infuriating and emotionally draining experience in Final Fantasy 10. You must go to the Thunder Plains and successfully dodge 200 consecutive lightning bolt strikes.

Godhand (Rikku)

In this image, Rikku obtains her Celestial weapon, the Godhand, and is ready to become one of the most fearful characters in Final Fantasy 10.

Rikku is one of the most reliant characters on Overdrive, similar to Wakka, so having Triple Overdrive already turns Godhand into a Godsend for Rikku. Using Mix multiple times per battle increases Rikku’s value in battle tremendously.

Complementing Triple Overdrive with Break Damage Limit turns Rikku into a colossal damage dealer while being capable of supporting the whole party with status buffs or healing. Also, more often than not, Rikku gets underutilized during the story, so Godhand having Double AP is also crucial to level her up properly.

Finally, Godhand’s last ability is Gillionaire, which makes sense for the character, as a thief, and her battle traits. She relies on items to make the most of her Mix, so using Bribe on Omega Ruins, for example, is a fantastic strategy to grind items. You can use them to customize your armor or use them in battle with Rikku.

What Godhand Excels In:

  • Making Rikku use multiple Overdrives, which is her primary source of power;
  • Gathering powerful items with Bribe thanks to the Gillionaire ability;
  • Doubling the experience earned;
  • Allowing Rikku to output ridiculous amounts of damage.

How to Get Godhand:

To obtain the weapon, speak with Cid, choose the password option, and input "GODHAND." Go to the place it unlocked, and there, in a treasure chest, you will find the Godhand.

Mercury Crest:

You find the Mercury Crest at Sanubia Desert West in an antlion pit on the area's western side.

Mercury Vigil:

Complete the Cactuar Village sidequest in the Sanubia Desert to get the Mercury Vigil.

First, go to the Sanubia Desert West, and you will find a stone glyph that allows you to start the quest. Then, you will have mini-games for each Cactuar you encounter. Here's the location for each one:

Tomay: You can find this Cactuar in Oasis, where you first got to the Sanubia Desert in the story.

Rovivea: You can find this Cactuar on the western side of Sanubia Desert East.

Chava: You can find this Cactuar in Sanubia Desert West, the same area as the stone glyph. There are two signs west of this quest starting point. You can find Chava behind the second sign.

Alek & Aloja: You can find these Cactuars playing tag at Sanubia Desert Central. Go to the Save Sphere; you will find them on the northwest near the ruins.

Vachella: You can find this Cactuar in Sanubia Desert East, near the Oasis. You must touch the Save Sphere for Vachella to appear.

Robeya: You can find this Cactuar inside a treasure chest in Sanubia Desert Central, in the southwest area.

Isrra: You can find this Cactuar in an antlion pit at Sanubia Desert West. He randomly appears, so if you can't find it, leave the area and return.

Elio: You can find this Cactuar in Oasis. He, then, will teleport to the Airship, where you can find him in the deck where you fought Evrae.

Flail: You can find this Cactuar behind you after you insert the last Sphere in the Glyph stone.

After inserting all the Spheres, the sandstorm will vanish, and you will find the Mercury Sigil inside a treasure chest.

Spirit Lance (Kimahri)

The image shows the cutscene of Kimahri obtaining his Celestial weapon, the Spirit Lance, in the Thunder Plains.

Kimahri is the most challenging character to analyze regarding his celestial weapon because there are many ways to build him in the sphere grid. Some players might focus on making Kimahri a backup mage or healer for Yuna and Lulu, and others might concentrate on making him a physical dealer.

Spirit Lance possesses Evade & Counter, so enhancing Kimahri’s Strength will help this weapon flourish. If you have a balanced or more magic-focused build, his Celestial weapon will provide versatility but won’t enhance anything you have built.

As always, Kimahri’s versatility makes him the least favorable to improve with the Celestial weapon. First, his Overdrive could be better, so having the Triple Overdrive ability does little for him. The Double AP is great for grinding up levels and expanding his Sphere Grid towards a more physical pathway.

If you prioritize Kimahri’s development, he can become an excellent damage dealer and compete with Auron. With Kimahri, it's always a matter of how much you care for him. If you do, he will be great, regardless.

What Spirit Lance Excels In:

  • Improving Kimahri’s physical capabilities;
  • Allowing Kimahri to increase his versatility;
  • Making it easier to grind up levels and make Kimahri compete with the best characters.

How to Get Spirit Lance:

Before getting your hands on the Spirit Lance, read the book in the Rin’s Agency at the Thunder Plains to trigger the option to finish the quest. Then, you must find three Cactuar Stones scattered around the Thunder Plains and examine them with the Square button.

A ghost Cactuar will show up and lead you to an old tower where you must pray again with the Square button. Finally, a treasure chest will appear with the Spirit Lance inside.

Saturn Crest:

You can find the Saturn Crest in Mount Gagazet behind one of the pillars in the area after your battle with Seymour Flex.

Saturn Vigil:

Complete the Butterfly Hunt in the Macalania Woods to obtain the Saturn Vigil. It’s a simple mini-game where you must catch the blue butterflies within a specific time limit.

Collecting every Celestial weapon can be a frustrating experience, but if you plan on beating every post-end game content, you’ll need them.

You can choose which characters you use more and will benefit the most from them. Still, overall, they all strengthen each party member, and it’s always satisfying to complete the full set of Celestial weapons.
