(A Tier-list of the latest update of Tekken 7)

The Top Dogs

Most of the cast could be very viable and effective if used by the right hands. But they can never reach the same level of greatness the S-teir fighters can achieve.

From Akuma to Marduk, here is why these fighters are so revered by the community:

Akuma

(Akuma getting ready to fight in the rain)

Hailing from the street fighter franchise, Akuma or Gouki is a very aggressive, high mix-up character that completely breaks the rules of conventional Tekken.

Being a 2-D character in a 3-D fighter game, Akuma forces the opponent to play very differently and try to adapt to playing against

such a character.

Being a 2-D character also gives him insane aerial movement from which he can do his infamous demon-flip. A move that creates 50/50 mixups mid-air!!

He also has a meter bar, which if he has any charges in it, allows breaking the game even further by launching from a mere jab, avoiding pressure by using an invincible reversal, and of course his 0 to death combos.

Even without his meter, Akuma is still a very strong character. As he has great poke with moves like the ryujinkyaku, and space control with moves like the gohadouken.

Now you may wonder where is the catch? Well, Akuma is arguably the hardest character to learn and master in the entire game due to the high execution required to play him.

Yet this downside is not enough to dethrone him from the top of the list.

Fahkumram

(Fahkumram getting ready for his next battle)

At 2 M tall, this muay Thai champion takes the 2nd spot in the S-teir. While he isn’t as strong (or buggy) as he was in the past, he is still a very formidable opponent to face.

Having the longest limbs in the game, Fahkumram can poke down and keep his opponents at a distance.

However, unlike other characters in this archetype, Fahkumram can convert these pokes into insane pressure and mix-ups like with his rising thunder move.

Along with his pressure and mix-ups, Fahkumram can use his unique guard break mechanic to create even more pressure and mix-up setups, especially when at the wall. Making it even more obnoxious to defend against him.

Though if you do manage to somehow break through his pressure, you can get some revenge as he struggles under pressure due to his very weak side step and high frame panic moves.

Easy to use, crazy pressure and damage, but weak under pressure. Fahkumram holds a solid spot in the S-teir.

Devil Jin

(Devil jin walking through an ocean)

When Jin transforms into his devilish form, Devil gets born.

Arguably the best Mishima and the most rounded of the bunch, Devil Jin holds the 3rd spot in the S-teir.

Being a Mishima, Devil Jin gets access to an arsenal of powerful moves such as the Electric wind god fist (EWGF) to create pressure and helo with combos, the wave dash to quickly approach the opponent, and some good punch strings to ease off the pressure.

Unlike the other 2 Mishima's, Kazuya and Heihachi who both focus on a certain aspect of the Mishima fighting style, (Heihachi focusing on bullying and Kazuya on mix-ups), Devil jin is a lot more versatile than his fellow Mishima.

Having access to good poking tools such as the twin lancers, and of course, Devil jin launching hell sweep. He can create super-powerful mix-ups and set up a lot of very dangerous okizeme situations. And if caught can take you all the to the wall.

Devil jin has also great mids such as the wraith kick which allows him to snowball and chip away your life bar.

And if that wasn’t enough he also has great evasive movements such as the samsara making avoiding sticky situations.

Though being a Mishima, Devil Jin requires good execution, to play effectively. Even though he is easier than the other 2 Mishima.

Great poke, mix-up,okizeme, snowballing, and evasiveness are all that make Devil jin take the third spot in the S-teir. Though good execution is required to play him effectively.

Geese Howard

(Geese Howard challenging his opponent)

On our 4th spot in the S-teir, we have the boss of south town himself. Geese Howard

Unlike the other 2-D characters (Akuma and Eliza),  where they utilize their meter for mostly mix-ups and frame advantage. Geese mainly uses his meter (stock) for 1 main reason. BIG DAMAGE!!.

So if he so touches you while he has full stock, then kiss your heath bar goodbye and just watch the massacre he will unleash on you.

Even without his stock Geese can chip your life away with a great set of poking and tracking moves such as the Fudou ken, Raikou Mawashi-Geri, and of course his Reppu ken.

Geese also is great at dealing with pressure thanks to his parry move (Jyoudan and Chuuden Atemi), which switches sides with you and allows Geese to take you to a wall for massive damage.

And of course, we shouldn't forget about his rage art, the deadly rave. Which hits like a truck when combined with his combos.

While he does require some execution, it’s not that difficult to play him unlike Devil Jin or Akuma.

Another weakness he has is a lack of safe lows, as most of his lows have very bad frames and places him at a disadvantage. He also requires a bar or counter hit to launch the opponent in most scenarios.

Great poke, Tons of damage, and great parries are the tools that got geese a spot in the S-teir. Of course, don’t throw too many lows if you're playing him or you will be the one who might lose the round instead.

Julia

(Julia giving her iconic "Pathetic" look)

From wrestler to streamer, The environmentalist Julia chang takes our 5th spot in the S-teir.

Julia Chang is all about being all up on your face and staying there until your dead.

While she may not have a wave dash, she still has some insane moves that help close her distance on you like her swift step and of course her infamous party crasher. Oh did I mention that both these moves have follow-ups !!

Her mix-ups are also super strong with moves that have a lot of strings and crazy throws like her mad axes, a throw so fast it hard to react to.

But where she shines is in her snowballing and wall game, where she can set up a lot of okizeme.

And if you ever get to a wall, then get ready to get the wall splatted and wall bounced all day until the game is over.

While Julia does have great engagement tools, her pokes do very little damage forcing her to take some risk and go in for the kill.

She also needs a little bit of execution due to how weird some of her combos feel.

Insane rush in movements, terrifying mix-ups, and outrageous wall game. All these tools are what gave Tekkens environmentalist a spot in the S-teir.

Zafina

(Zafina performing her rage art)

Born to a group of ancient warriors, Zafina slithers her way into the 6th spot in the S-teir.

Imagine you hop into a game, and play against this character who goes from walking normally, to hopping on 1 leg, to crawling on the floor?

And when you try to hit them they either step away quickly or even evade the attack and hit you back. That’s what it is like to play against Zafina.

Zafina is arguably the most mobile out of this whole tier as she has one of the best back dashes on the game, where it covers a lot more than usual. Combined with her small hitbox makes her back dash a lot safer than most.

She also has very long-range pokes like Shamsheer and Inaana’s fury.

But what makes Zafina shine the most is her ridiculous evasive moves and stance shifts like earwig pincer into mantis stance. Which helps create enormous pressure and mix-ups. Creating counter-hit opportunities.

Zafina does lack some power lows and isn’t able to punish very easily.

Due to her evasiveness, mix-ups, counter hits, Pressure, and of course her back dash. Zafina was able to get her spot on the S-teir.

Marduk

(Marduk pointing at his next opponent)

A good friend to king and the hulk of wrestling, Marduk takes our 7th and final spot on our S-teir.

If you ever face this giant in a match, then be prepared to feel the floor like you never have before as he will slam you to the ground. And turn into a pulp.

Being a huge character, his long hands help him dish out damage and launchers from a distance.

Also, his wide array of lows and mids allows him to do, you guessed it, mix-ups.

Of course, him being a wrestler he has a wide array of tools from his infamous tackle, which even pros struggle to break out off, to (I am not joking) grabbing you from the ground and YEETing you to the air.

Though Marduk does struggle against pressure he has some tools to ease the pressure off him a bit like some of his armored moves. And good back dash.

One of the best Okizeme in the game, high damage, great grab game, and good mixups are all the tools that helped Marduk gain a spot on the S-teir.

Conclusion

If you pick most of the characters in this game and master them there is no doubt that you may find success. But if you want to be the best, you must play characters with the best movements, best pressure, best mix-ups, and of course best damage. So if you are looking for characters like these, then look no other than the S-teir.
