1. Pioneers of Pagonia (PC)

While playing this game, you’ll explore new islands and build a flourishing community. You will have to protect your island from mythical enemies like ghosts and werewolves. Once your economy is powerful enough you will be able to conquer any foes.

Well, they don’t look welcoming.

The game takes place in the beautiful world of Pagonia. Start on one island and turn it into a thriving economy with workers and villagers alike. Then set off into the mystical fog and conquer new lands.

What an adorable little village.

The goal is to build a thriving community, conquer neighboring islands, and harvest resources. Once you’ve defeated enemies and united the islands, your mission is complete.

What makes the game unique is the opportunity to play any way you’d like. Want to play without enemies, turn them off. Want the terrain of the islands to be different, go ahead and change them.

Overall, the gaming experience is unique to you. Play however you like with this simulation game.

Now this is a thriving town. I want to live here.

2. Thronefall (PC)

This is a fairly new game focussed on strategy and defense. It starts with a monarch riding a horse whose goal is to defend his kingdom. During the day he builds up his defenses, kingdom, and soldiers.

I will defend this small village to the death.

The game is set in a medieval village with a town hall at the center. While playing, you can expand the village and add farmhomes, mills, and other assets. You can also recruit knights and archers to defend your kingdom.

No one is getting past this desert fortress.

The goal of the game is just to build and defend your kingdom from enemies. It’s a unique version of a strategy game, without all the complexity. Build your kingdom by day, and defend it to the death at night.

3. Stronghold - Definitive Addition (PC)

A modern take on the original BAFTA-nominated strategy game. This game focuses on reuniting the kingdom and striking down each of your enemies through various missions. It also has a multiplayer version with even more maps to battle on.

The setting takes place in Medieval England, featuring a land destroyed by war. During gameplay, you will begin to rebuild this broken-down empire. As well as travel through a new historical castle trail.

This village is not broken down anymore.

The game's goal is to defeat your enemies, the rat, the pig, the snake, and the wolf. And of course, you will also need to rebuild your kingdom, create an army, and gather resources. You can also explore new maps with up to eight friends in multiplayer.

This game is a unique spinoff of the original, with more modern graphics and missions. Not to mention a remastered soundtrack and remade visuals by the original artists.

The question here is, is the wall working or not?

Now there’s a booming graveyard business.

The game is set in a medieval village, where you will make decisions for your graveyard that could affect the citizens. Explore medieval dungeons and discover new ingredients that you can use for alchemy. Or explore the village and gather valuable resources for your graveyard.

It’s nice to get away from the smell of death.

The goal is to be the most capital-focused graveyard around. What is a business without cutting costs somewhere, even in places that may be unethical? Build your graveyard in the way that gets the most bang for your buck.

Well, this seems a little bit unethical.

This game offers a unique experience to explore the medieval world in an unusual, and perhaps even uncouth way. Most players will enjoy the many options available to them to build their cemetery and wreak some havoc.

6. Going Medieval (PC)

Those are some threatening walls.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic medieval world, where most of the terrain is forest and almost everyone has died. You start with just a tiny wooden hut that you’ll need to expand into a thriving empire.

No one gets past your walls.

The goal is to rebuild society inside your walls and protect your castle and your villagers. Learn their stories and invite new people into your fortress. You can even watch your villagers to discover their agendas and get to know them.

Meet your villagers and discover their skills.

The best part about this game is the ability to build an empire from the ground up, while also choosing who to invite into your walls. Are they a friend or enemy?

7. Kingdoms and Castles (PC, Xbox One)

This city-building simulation game focuses on building an incredible kingdom from the ground up. But where there is a king or queen, there is also always an enemy. And we can’t forget about those pesky peasants always needing things either.

Friend, trade partner, or enemy. The choice is yours.

This game takes place in a time when Vikings still roam the seas attempting to destroy villages, steal resources, and massacre the peasant community. Not to mention the dragons hiding back in the forest that want to torch your kingdom to the ground.

The Vikings are coming, the Vikings are coming.

The goal is to build a thriving city, where the peasants are pleased, the land is fertile, and there are adequate protections in place. You are the builder, everything is up to your expert techniques. Will the peasants starve or the village burn down, or will you be able to build a sufficient kingdom?

Such a nice little city, will you build one that’s similar or entirely different?

8. Foundation (PC)

In this gird-less medieval building game, you are the new lord or lady of this untouched land. You can choose to build it how you please and watch as it begins to flourish before your eyes. There will even be quests and events across the kingdom.

This is a kingdom worth visiting, what will yours be like?

Set in a desolate village that has not yet been constructed. You have the opportunity to build a successful medieval town of your own. The other estates in this realm will begin to notice as your reputation increases and you may even unlock new buildings.

Now this is a growing village.

The goal is to take this non-existent town and turn it into a true medieval village. Monitor your resources, build taverns and churches, and create zones for housing or farming. Then watch as your villagers begin to build their homes and settle into your community.

Look at all those tiny homes, these villagers are taking a liking to this new community.

A unique experience that allows you to build the medieval city that you’ve always dreamed of. You can even toggle off the snap function in-game to allow for more customization of your village.

9. Kingdoms Reborn (PC)

Another city-building simulation game with a few interesting twists that make gameplay even better. Choose your culture and progress through different eras in medieval times (Dark Ages, Middle Ages, etc..). So many different cultures to interact with.

You may start in any of the seven biomes, forest, jungle, desert, savannah, boreal forest, or tundra. Depending on where you start, you will face different challenges that you have to overcome to build your empire. Face these challenges alone or with friends in multiplayer.

What an interesting biome to build your kingdom on.

Win the hearts of your subjects or go with a more aggressive approach by whipping them into submission. Just remember that they can choose to rebel against you. You can also appoint nobility and have slaves that attend to the castle (Just be careful they can rebel too).

I wonder if these citizens are happy.

As you grow in the ranks, enemies will come to take what is yours. Make sure that your army is powerful enough to defeat them or pay the price in blood.

This battle looks like it could get bloody.

Syx was once a united kingdom until a bloody battle caused the land to be frozen in ice for an age. The ice is now gone and the land can once again flourish with the changing of climates, migration of people and animals, and cultural separations.

Now this is an empire in the making.

The goal is to create the most powerful empire that you can. Of course, it won’t be easy with the challenges you are set to face. If an enemy doesn’t destroy you, perhaps your subjects will rise against you.
