The best maps to play in Devour

Devour currently has 4 fun maps, each with its own unique set of monsters and  characteristics. This ranking is based on my experience playing the game and aims to help the player which maps are the best in terms of difficulty and enjoyment.

4. The Farmhouse:

Map gameplay.

This map is the initial map that kickstarted the game into popularity. Players in The Farmhouse must steel themselves and work together to stop their cursed leader Anna Puerta from unleashing an unspeakable evil. With the goat demon Azazel possessing her after a ritual gone horribly wrong, Anna’s rage and power will grow with every step the players take in DEVOUR. In a race against time, the players burn ritual goats, evade a growing legion of demons, and ultimately hope to break Azazel's hold over Anna.

Why The Farmhouse is Great:

  • This map has you collecting goats and burning them, with each step enraging the monster more and causing them to pursue you. There are 2 cages on the map, one outside and one in the attic, make sure you open both before starting everything.
  • In The Farmhouse, you need to sacrifice 10 goats, to make it easier you can just bring the 10 fuel to the altar.
  • The map is not that big so you can hear pretty much everything happening, pay attention to Anna’s running sound.
  • The Farmhouse demons are really slow, so it’s not necessary to use the UV light, they only get a little faster in 7/10. It’s nice to remember that they can’t turn 180° properly, so keep that in mind when running around them.
  • After triggering the starting event Anna will spawn in the attic, going downstairs. She will not attack you until you sacrifice a goat or stare at them for too long. With the Escapist perk, you can run from here until 7/10, when she grows horns and gets really fast.

3. The Asylum:

Map gameplay.

Released on April 21,2021, This map includes some disturbing rat-infested halls in a barbaric, hidden asylum. In The Asylum, you'll experience the electrifying thrill of being hunted by the demonically possessed fan-favourite Molly Jackson, as well as scores of deranged inmates.

Why The Asylum is Great:

  • The map is really big, with spacious hallways, making it hard to hear Molly.
  • You can jump from high heights without taking damage, so use that for your advantage.
  • Asylum demons are also slow, but don’t underestimate them, they get you from afar. They usually are making really loud sounds, so you will most of the time know where they are. They can easily turn around.
  • Molly. In my opinion, the scariest one. After triggering the starting event Molly will spawn at the Infirmary hallway. You can also use the Escapist perk and run away from her, until 7/10, where she also grows horns and gets really fast.
  • Similarly to the original map, The Asylum requires you to feed animals (rats) in order to catch them and sacrifice them.
  • This map is the only one fully enclosed, making the chases more horrifying as the player is more likely to run into a dead end and be forced to face Molly.

2. The Inn:

Map gameplay.

This map was released on September 23rd, 2021. It holds one of the fastest demons in the game: Zara. The Inn is set in Zara's native Japan, where she has been hiding out in the caves beside her family owned guest-house. Using rituals remembered from her time with satanic cult The Watchers, Zara has been trying to summon the goat demon Azazel. But Azazel has possessed Zara's body and mind in the cruellest of ways: now, she will be switching between her human form and that of a terrifying, giant spider.

Why The Inn is Great:

  • The Inn introduces a new concept of ritual items: Eggs. The player’s objective is to look for eggs, wash them, and burn them at the appropriate altar.
  • This map has both an open space and a closed one. It provides the player with enough options to manoeuvre their way around Zara and complete the rituals.
  • Azazel’s minions are small spiders. They are fast but not a threat since they don’t kill you that easily. Getting hit by them gives you a slow effect, but after a time being hit, they can kill you. They can also carry your dropped eggs, clean or not.
  • Eventually, Zara will make cobwebs blocking the path, they can be removed by using UV light. But in Nightmare, it is better just passing around if possible, since you have no UV.
  • This map can be completed solo.Through proper preparation and setting the eggs close to their respective altars, the player can defeat Zara on their own.
  • If you watch closely, the map has a lot of holes in the walls, these places will be where you (after being caught) and spiders spawn.

1. The Town:

Map gameplay.

Released on March 24th, 2022;The Town is Devour’s latest addition and features a new incarnation of Azazel: Sam. This map is set in California, USA, where Sam McCaul has made a pilgrimage to Mercy, an abandoned Gold Rush mining town. Filled with chilling, ghostly presences, Mercy is the birthplace of DEVOUR's cult, The Watchers Of Azazel.

Why The Town is Great:

  • I heavily recommend this map for starting players or duos. It is by far the easiest of the 4 maps and can be managed without too much struggle.
  • Mercy’s open air environment increases the player’s chances of survival as it facilitates their escape. The open space gives them more opening and makes it hard for them to find themselves confined within 4 walls with no way out.
  • The player doesn’t have to rely solely on audio cues as they can spot the gunslinger from afar when outside.
  • This map introduces a new mechanic to the game as Sam is now able to shoot at the player when enraged. This can be countered by turning off the flashlight or leaving Sam’s field of vision.
  • In The Town, Azazel’s minions are flying ghosts, they are by far the most annoying obstacles that you can encounter while being chased by Azazel. This makes the game more intense and chaotic, especially when it nears its end.

The game’s developers have teased the approach of more content into the game on twitter. Their post hints at the likely release of a new map along with other features.
