About - Emily Saeli: Emily Saeli is a creative writer with a passion for examining the way women and minorities interact with gaming communities and technology in general. She has been published everywhere from creative writing journals to advice blogs. Emily honed her writing skills at Hobart and William Smith Colleges where she also debated and traveled internationally for debate. She was called "a big nerd" and "maybe too enthusiastic" when it came to debating about technology, but she learned to accept her titles. Her favorite types of games to play (and write about) are strategy and puzzle games, although any pun-laden experience will suit her just fine. She loves writing about games because the evolution of gaming highlights the cross between old human issues and new technological barriers. She enjoys analyzing MMOs and RPGs in particular because of the unique (and sometimes toxic) ways people choose to communicate. Gaming isn't the only thing Emily loves to write about. Her first loves were sci-fi and fantasy books and she'll always have a soft spot in her heart for the genre as a whole. Her published short story, "Galatea," honors the genre by theorizing a world in which humans have used technology to distort the meaning of love-- and what it means to design the perfect partner. Emily hopes to continue her education with a masters in Writing and Rhetoric that focuses on the nuances of in-game communication and inclusive design.
