3. Colossus of Rhodes by MCserverUK – kg9dh

Stradle the ocean

This was by far one of the tallest statues of the ancient world. The massive depiction of the titan-god Helios stood over 30 meters tall. The statue stood at the islands coast looking out over the open sea. It served as a reminder and celebration of Rhodes’ victory against Cyprus. Unfortunately though, the statue met an untimely demise when a powerful earthquake struck in 226 BC.
