5. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

One of the best PC games of 2015 is none other than Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Set in huge open worlds, every mission can be approached in a variety of ways. Blow up that tank with a missile launcher? Or sneak up on those soldiers for a quick knife to the back? You’ve also got friends to help you out. Prefer your help on the cute and furry side? Get DD, your pet wolf, to rip your enemies’ throats for you. Want some eye candy to get you through some tough times? There’s the mute sniper Quiet, who can murder foes from afar. In addition to the stealth action gameplay, you can also build your base and recruit enemy soldiers to grow your army. A modern classic!

4. Pillars of Eternity

Pillars of Eternity is the best Baldur’s Gate game that never was. After a supernatural phenomenon blows up in your face, you find yourself with the curious ability to see souls and people’s past lives. Now the Watcher, you embark on a quest to solve the mystery behind Drywood’s “hollowborn” – infants born without souls. Set in the fantasy realm of Eora, the game features tactical, party-based combat, an engaging story, well-written characters, beautiful visuals, and a world that evolves depending on your decisions. We wouldn’t hesitate to call Pillars of Eternity one of the best PC games of 2015.

3. Undertale

Imagine a game where you don’t have to kill anyone. Doesn’t sound like fun, right? Let Undertale prove you wrong. In this strangely addicting RPG, you play a human who falls into a subterranean world populated by monsters. The only way back to freedom is through those monsters. But violence is so yesterday – especially when you can negotiate your way out of trouble. Attack enemies by chatting with them, praising them, or any other such choices. Befriend bosses, collect dogs, make a phone call to your goat mom, dodge mischievous flowers, and immerse yourself in one of the funniest, most charmingly written games ever created.

2. Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program lets you build spaceships – which we’re pretty certain is something most of us wanted to do as kids. Once you manage to develop a working spaceship, you then launch it into orbit, and explore and land on planets, moons, and other celestial bodies. The game introduces complex spaceflight concepts to us in a way our non-rocket scientist brains can comprehend. Because of this, as well as its impressive in-game physics, it has caught the attention of the geniuses over at NASA and SpaceX. One of the best PC games of 2015.

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt boasts so many quests to complete, secrets to unravel, and activities to participate in that it’ll likely take anyone over 100 hours to complete the game. But the best thing about this RPG is the sense of immersion it provides. For every significant choice you make, you shape the world in ways you’ll rarely anticipate. All that suffering in the world? You can help change that. Or you can be the cause of it. Add to this well-written characters, beautiful graphics, stellar combat, ingenious magic, alchemy, and crafting systems, and even an addicting collectible card minigame, and you’ve got one of the best PC games of 2015.

Honorable Mention

Grey Goo

The real-time strategy is far from dead, thanks to phenomenal titles such as Grey Goo. Grey Goo is asymmetrical – its three races are vastly different from each other. The high tech humans are defensive, focusing on creating networks of structures, the use of robotics, and teleportation. The fascinating and highly adaptive Goo are amorphous, gelatinous blobs of nanobots that can literally swallow anything in their path. They have no structures and are fluid in every sense of the word. The Beta are the most ordinary of the factions, but even they bring much to the table with their heavy firepower and fine selection of mechs. The three factions battle for survival on the planet Ecosystem Nine in one of the best PC games of 2015.
