For number two in this list, we need to look at Digitalmindsoft’s Men of War series that’s being going for almost 10 years. This fantastically underrated series based on world war II has quietly garnered a following in recent years, and 2014 Assault Squad 2 is the best of the bunch.

Focused on squads rather than armies, Assault Squad 2 feels like a more intimate game. A company of Heroes-like approach makes choices a focus, as your squads are limited to just a couple of units. The stakes are high, and every loss is felt through the rest of the mission. 

Play as the most important members of WWII, from Germany to America. A multiplayer mode completes the game, with challenging difficulties and a steep learning curve, Assault Squad 2 should get more recognition than it currently does, and for that it gets this spot.
