[Top 5] Warframe Best Beast Companions (And How To Get Them)-1
The good boys and girls of Warframe

I previously made a list of which Warframe companions overall were the best. Well, now let’s dive into a more specific type of companion: Beasts. Beast companions are your four-legged friends that you get from your incubator or through Son’s revivification process. These include Kavats, Kubrows, Predasites, and Vulpaphyla.

These companions can be revived unlike Sentinels, and don’t require parts to be built, unlike MOAs and Hounds. Like most companions, they help you fight and support you depending on the mods you put on them. Each breed also has mods that are exclusive to that breed so there are stuff that only they can do. You can also pet them… so 10/10.

Here are the top 5 of these fuzzy little death balls that will help you throughout most parts of the game. Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know in the comments below!

5. Chesa Kubrow

Can your dog pillage corpses?

If you’re not familiar with them, Kubrows are essentially Warframe’s dogs while Kavats are cats. Kubrows get a bad rap since Kavats are generally more useful, but they’re pretty decent enough. For the dog lovers of Warframe, I present to you, the Chesa Kubrow!

I personally think that this is the best Kubrow in the game simply because of the Chesa Kubrow-exclusive mod Retrieve. This mod makes additional loot spawn from enemies you kill. If you’re new to the game, one of the most tiring and painful experiences in it is farming for rare loot. A mod like this can save you hours of grinding.

What the Chesa Kubrow excels at:

  • Looting:

At max rank, Retrieve gives a 45% chance for the Chesa Kubrow to draw out additional loot from fallen enemies every 10 seconds. Bring the Chesa Kubrow along whenever you’re hunting for a rare mod or resources to speed up the process.

  • Disarming:

Neutralize is another mod that’s exclusive to the Chesa Kubrow. At max rank, Neutralize will allow your Chesa Kubrow to disarm an enemy within 20 meters every 15 seconds. This will cause them to use a weaker melee weapon to attack, making them significantly less of a threat.

  • Mecha mod set:

The Mecha mod set is meant to make Kubrows way more support-effective and boost their deadliness in battle.

If you don’t know how mod sets work, each mod enhances a shared effect that all the mods in the set have.

For the Mecha mod set, its effect is that your Kubrow will mark an enemy; killing that marked target will cause whatever status effects they were inflicted with to spread to nearby enemies. The more Mecha mods you have equipped, the lesser the cooldown time, the enemy stays marked for longer, and their status effect will spread farther. Some of the Mecha mods even give you bonuses against the marked enemy like dealing more damage against them or granting you buffs whenever you kill them.

Chesa Kubrow Stats:

  • Armor: 50
  • Base damage: 304 (100% slash)
  • Critical chance: 10%
  • Critical multiplier: 3.0x
  • Health (at max rank): 375
  • Shields (at max rank):  225
  • Status chance: 5%

Chesa Kubrow Wiki

How to get the Chesa Kubrow:

You first need to complete the Howl of the Kubrow quest to unlock your incubator. You then need a Kubrow Egg and an Incubator Power Core.

You get Kubrow Eggs by destroying Kubrow dens on Earth. You get an Incubator Power Core by buying it for 35 platinum in the in-game market or buying its reusable blueprint for 50k credits and then crafting it.

You will then be given a choice of going for a random incubation or using Genetic Code Templates to get imprints. If you want a guarantee of getting a Chesa Kubrow, you need to have 2 Chesa Kubrow Imprints by getting it from a previously owned Chesa Kubrow or trading it with another player. Otherwise, there is only a 20% chance that the Kubrow you incubate will be a Chesa Kubrow.

4. Vasca Kavat

Look at the cute little blood-sucking nightmare

Vasca Kavats are a special type of Kavat that you can’t breed through normal means. They require a very special process involving an infectious virus that causes them to become sensitive to light, and develop bat-like features, fangs, and a desire to drink blood.

Yes, they’re vampire cats.

Despite the lore, the Vasca Kavat you get is actually totally fine even when you bring it in daytime missions, which is a really big plus.

What the Vasca Kavat excels at:

  • Reviving you:

Transfusion is a Vasca Kavat-exclusive mod that allows the Vasca Kavat to revive you when you get downed. At max rank, the mod will drain 20% of your Kavat’s health to instantly revive you. This has a cooldown of 120 seconds.

Note that Transfusion won’t trigger if your Kavat doesn’t have enough health left.

  • Sucking blood:

Draining Bite is another mod for the Vasca Kavat that allows it to drain the enemy’s health and heal itself. At max rank, Draining Bite will deal 400 damage and restore 10% of the Vasca Kavat’s health. Use this to supplement Transfusion so that your Kavat will always have the health to heal you up.

  • Tek mod set:

The Tek mod set is meant entirely to boost Kavat gameplay, each mod in the set enhances your Kavat’s survivability and overall utility.

The Tek mod set’s effect is that your Kavat will mark a zone that deals damage to enemies in it. The more Tek mods you have equipped the higher the zone’s radius, duration, and damage. Some of the Tek mods even give you bonuses against enemies in the zone like enhanced critical damage.

Vasca Kavat Stats:

  • Armor: 50
  • Base damage: 80 (100% slash)
  • Critical chance: 20%
  • Critical multiplier: 2.0x
  • Health (at max rank): 237
  • Shields (at max rank):  210
  • Status chance: 7.5%

Vasca Kavat Wiki

How to get the Vasca Kavat:

Equip an owned Kavat, go to the Plains of Eidolon at night and find wild Vasca by conservation or simply by roaming around (they’re fairly common). Go close and the wild Vasca and your Kavat will begin fighting, if your Kavat gets attacked, it will start glowing red, indicating that they are now infected by the Vasca Virus.

Go back to your orbiter and use a Genetic Code Template on your infected Kavat. Instead of getting the imprint for your Kavat’s breed, you will get a Vasca Imprint instead. Your Kavat will no longer be infected after this.

Repeat the infection process and get a second Vasca Imprint (you can infect the same Kavat a second time) to guarantee that you get a Vasca Kavat when you start breeding.

Note: The Kavat you decide to infect should have available imprints left. Each Kavat only has two available imprints, after that, you can no longer use the Genetic Code Template on them.

3. Adarza Kavat

An Eidolon hunter’s best friend

The Adarza Kavat is the companion of choice for Eidolon hunts, purely because of the Adarza Kavat-exclusive mod Cat’s Eye. This mod boosts your critical chance, allowing you to quickly dispatch an Eidolon’s joints. It used to be even better because Cat’s eye once affected Operator damage too, but alas, it was nerfed a couple of years ago.

Aside from that, Reflect is another mod for the Adarza Kavat that helps it survive in tough situations by reflecting back damage dealt to it. If you’ve gone on Eidolon hunts, you’ll notice that companions constantly get downed by the Eidolon’s various attacks. This mod helps fix that problem.

What the Adarza Kavat excels at:

  • Helping you land critical hits:

When maxed, Cat’s Eye gives you and your allies a 60% critical chance boost for 10 seconds. Once the buff is over, it will activate again after 20 seconds. It will only trigger when there’s an enemy nearby so you don’t have to worry about wasting the buff outside of combat.

  • Surviving:

Another mod that’s exclusive to the Adarza Kavat is Reflect. At max rank, this gives the Adarza Kavat a 40% chance to reflect any damage it receives and even boost that damage by 60%.

  • Tek mod set:

Once again, the Tek mod is really useful to have in a Kavat like this. If you plan on taking it to Eidolon hunts, a couple of the defensive Tek mods can really help your Kavat survive even longer.

Adarza Kavat Stats:

  • Armor: 50
  • Base damage: 80 (100% slash)
  • Critical chance: 20%
  • Critical multiplier: 2.0x
  • Health (at max rank): 240
  • Shields (at max rank):  210
  • Status chance: 7.5%

Adarza Kavat Wiki

How to get the Adarza Kavat:

You must first upgrade your Incubator with a Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment. This upgrade segment can be researched in your Dojo’s Tenno Lab or you can get it from Hyekka Masters who have a 1.5% chance to drop its blueprint.

Once upgraded you can start incubating Kavats for 10 Kavat Genetic Codes and an Incubator Power Core. You get Kavat Genetic Codes by scanning Feral Kavats with a Codex or Synthesis Scanner. You get an Incubator Power Core by buying it for 35 platinum in the in-game market or buying its reusable blueprint for 50k credits and then crafting it.

You will then be given a choice of going for a random incubation or using Genetic Code Templates to get imprints. If you want a guarantee of getting an Adarza Kavat, you need to have 2 Adarza Kavat Imprints by getting it from a previously owned Adarza Kavat or trading it with another player. Otherwise, there is only a 50% chance that the Kavat you incubate will be an Adarza Kavat.

2. Panzer Vulpaphyla

Dying is so last year

Vulpaphyla are fox-like creatures that have been overrun by the Infestations. The best quality that these creatures have is their ability to revive after death. As you know, beast companions need to be revived whenever they’re downed. Otherwise, they die until the end of the mission.

Vulpaphyla took a look at that feature and said “No”,

Vulpaphyla each have their own mod, exclusive to each breed, that allows them to automatically revive. There is no limit to how many times they can revive which guarantees that they’ll constantly be at your side, assisting and dealing damage no matter what. Now, this quality alone makes every Vulpaphyla breed excellent, but what makes the Panzer Vulpaphyla the best is that it specializes in viral attacks, which is an amazing element that softens up enemies for more damage.

What the Panzer Vulpaphyla excels at:

  • Being immortal:

The mod that causes the Panzer Vulpaphyla to revive is called Panzer Devolution. When equipped, whenever it’s killed, this Vulpaphyla will return to a larvae form and respawn. With the mod at max rank, it only takes 30 seconds for the Panzer Vulpaphyla to resurrect.

That’s not all, while in its larvae form, the Panzer Vulpaphyla will spit quills that deal viral damage to enemies that come close. So, even when it’s downed, this companion is still dishing out the pain.

  • Viral attacks:

Aside from Panzer Devolution’s viral quills, the Panzer Vulpaphyla has another mod exclusive to it literally called Viral Quills. This allows your companion to fire quills at enemies every four seconds. The quills will release viral spores that can spread when you hit it or if its host dies.

These spores can proc viral status effects, which increase the amount of damage you deal to that enemy. Really useful against tanky and high-priority enemies.

  • Tek mod set:

Confused? Though Vulpaphyla resemble foxes and don’t really look like Kavats, the game treats them as such. Even the Kavat wiki page states that they’re modular Kavats though that’s still up for debate.

Regardless, Vulpaphyla can use the Tek mods and will get its survivability and utility bonuses.

Panzer Vulpaphyla Stats:

  • Armor: 50
  • Base damage: 80 (100% slash)
  • Critical chance: 20%
  • Critical multiplier: 2.0x
  • Health (at max rank): 270
  • Shields (at max rank):  285
  • Status chance: 7.5%

Panzer Vulpaphyla Wiki

How to get the Panzer Vulpaphyla:

You first need to obtain a weakened Panzer Vulpaphyla in the Cambion Drift on Deimos. Tracking and tranquilizing a healthy Panzer Vulpaphyla doesn’t count, it needs to first be injured by the Infested mobs that roam the area. You could try looking for one through conservation and then simply luring some Infested close to it so they’ll start fighting and get it weakened.

Then you must head over to Son in the Necralisk and purchase Mutagen and Antigen blueprints and craft them. The Mutagen and Antigen you pick will decide the properties and appearance of your pet so choose which ones suit you like.

After crafting, return to Son and select “Vulpaphyla Revivification”. Pick the weakened Panzer Vulpaphyla and your crafted Mutagen and Antigen, and you will see a preview of the Vulpaphyla you will get. Confirm to obtain it for 5k credits.

However, you still can’t name, Forma, or change your pet’s appearance yet. It also won’t give you Mastery Rank. To unlock all these, you must first rank up the Vulpaphyla to Rank 30, then return to Son and Gild it. This will cost 10 Son Tokens and 5k Entrati Standing. This will unlock those features and give your Vulpaphyla a mod Polarity but will reset your Vulpaphyla’s rank to zero.

1. Smeeta Kavat

This cat makes its own luck

Here’s the top dog (cat?) of Warframe’s Beast Companions. The Smeeta Kavat is an amazing pet that can give you the edge in pretty much any game mode in Warframe. The only practical reason not to take it is if you’re aiming for a specific build rather than a general one.

The main appeal to the Smeeta Kavat is an exclusive mod called Charm. Every few seconds, Charm gives you a random buff from a choice of 6 possible buffs. Each one of these buffs is incredible, even if Charm can be a little unpredictable, it’s absolutely worth it.

What the Smeeta Kavat excels at:

  • Giving you luck:

At max rank, Charm has a 28% chance to trigger a buff every 27 seconds. That might sound inconsistent, and it really can be sometimes, but whenever you do get a buff, it’ll all feel worth it.

Here is the list of buff that Charm can give you:

  • A 200% Crit chance boost for 30 seconds.
  • All energy you use is refunded to you for 10 seconds.
  • All loot you collect and the experience you gain is doubled for 120 seconds.
  • You can reload instantly once. This buff will only expire once you reload.
  • You will instantly ignore the next hit you take. You will also gain +150 overshields.
  • Your Smeeta Kavat will spawn one rare resource from whatever planet/system you’re in.

  • Drawing fire:

Mischief is another mod that’s exclusive to the Smeeta Kavat. At max rank, it turns your Kavat invisible for nine seconds and has a cooldown of seven seconds.

Apart from that, the mod will also create a decoy Kavat to draw enemy fire. The decoy will also attack enemies. It will have your Kavat’s 100% critical chance and 2x critical multiplier but only 50% of its health. Also, when the decoy dies, it will cause your Kavat’s invisibility to expire.

  • Tek mod set:

Like all the previous Kavats on this list, the Smeeta Kavat can make good use of the Tek mod set to boost the Kavat’s survivability and utility.

Smeeta Kavat Stats:

  • Armor: 50
  • Base damage: 80 (100% slash)
  • Critical chance: 20%
  • Critical multiplier: 2.0x
  • Health (at max rank): 300
  • Shields (at max rank):  180
  • Status chance: 7.5%
