[Top 20] Stardew Valley Best Weapons for Early to Late Game

For a farming sim game, Stardew Valley sure gives its players a lot of options when it comes to combat tools. Luckily, we’ve simplified these weapons based on stats, game stage, and who they’re best for into a list of 20 of the best Stardew Valley weapons based on where you’re at in your playthrough - plus, handy tips on where to find them! Let’s get started.

Note: the statements of early/mid/late game will vary depending on your play style. If you prefer to focus on farming or other aspects of Stardew Valley, you may find that these assertions are inaccurate and may not obtain these weapons until later into your game, and vice versa.

20. Wind Spire (early game)

I’ll be the first to admit that I hate daggers, especially in Stardew Valley. But, if you simply must, the Wind Spire is a good early-game weapon that’s fairly commonly obtained (although, I’d rather have the 50g sell price…)

LVL 1

DMG: 1-5

STATS: crit chance +1, crit power +10, weight +5

Where to find: The Mines, floors 21-39 OR floor 10 chest reward in remixed mine rewards

Wind Spire details

19. Silver Saber (early game)

The Silver Saber is ol’ trusty when it comes to swords, a great early game weapon that trumps the rest, and gives more bang for your buck in comparison to the 850g Pirate’s Sword (unlocks after floor 30 in the Adventurer’s Guild), although the latter may be preferable if you’d rather your sword was swift than hardy.

LVL 2

DMG: 8-15

STATS: defence +1

Where to find: The Mines floor 50 chest reward in remixed mine rewards, purchasable in the Adventurer’s Guild (post-floor 20) for 750g

Silver saber details

18. Burglar’s Shank (early game, depending on how fast you make it through the mines)

Again, if the need for a dagger arises, which it very well might in the early game stages when you’re still scrambling for the most effective weapons (and prone to forgetting them on those long mining trips…) then the Shank is a safe bet.

LVL 4

DMG: 7-12

STATS: crit chance +2, crit power +25

Where to find: The Mines, floors 81+ OR floor 60 chest reward in remixed mine rewards, Skull Cavern

Burglar's Shank details

17. Forest Sword (early game)

One of the more whimsical swords in the game, the Forest Sword is not only available fairly early on, but has some solid stat perks and a decent level of damage (plus, it really fits that cottage-core vibe).

LVL 3

DMG: 8-18

STATS: speed +2, defence +1

Where to find: The Mines, floors 20-60

Forest sword details

16. Shadow Dagger (early game, depending on how fast you make it through the mines)

As far as daggers go, the Shadow is about as good as they get when you make checks and balances for damage, attainability, and stats. If you make it to those lower mine floors early on in-game and happen across her, she’s a beaut.

LVL 4

DMG: 10-20

STATS: crit chance +2

Where to find: The Mines, floors 61-79 and floors 101-119 OR floor 80 chest reward in remixed mine rewards

Shadow dagger details

15. Wood Mallet (early game)

Although I hate them considerably less, I’m also not a huge fan of clubs in games like Stardew Valley. That being said, the Wood Mallet is a pretty solid (and amusing, animation-wise) weapon I’ve been able to find fairly early on (or attain for a fair price fairly early on, at least) with some neat little stat perks to make it worth it.

LVL 3

DMG: 15-24

STATS: speed +2, weight +2

Where to find: The Mines floors 41-79 OR floor 60 chest reward in remixed mine rewards, purchasable in the Adventurer’s Guild (post-floor 40) for 2,000g

Wood mallet details

14. Iron Edge (early-mid game)

As far as powerful swords go, the Iron Edge is where things seem to step up a notch, being the first weapon (by level ascension) to reach into the 20s in damage. Although not the prettiest sword to look at, it gets the job done, and is a welcome possession in the early game.

LVL 3

DMG: 12-25

STATS: speed -2, defence +1, weight +3

Where to find: The Mines, floors 41-49 OR floor 60 chest reward in remixed mine rewards

Iron Edge details

13. Bone Sword (mid-game)

Although a little ghoulish, the Bone Sword is easily one of my favourite weapons mid-game - the reliable damage bracket combined with the speed of this, rather realistically, light weight weapon makes it a trusty companion in The Mines.

LVL 5

DMG: 20-30

STATS: speed +4, weight +2

Where to find: The Mines floor 90 chest reward in remixed mine rewards, Skeleton drops, purchasable in the Adventurer’s Guild (post-floor 75) for 6,000g

Bone Sword details

12. Neptune’s Glaive (mid-late game, depending on your luck)

A suitable aquamarine blue, Neptune’s Glaive is a delightful weapon even in spite of its lowered speed score. If you’re a fishing fanatic like me, hopefully, it won't be long before you find this one!

LVL 5

DMG: 18-35

STATS: speed -1, defence +2, weight +4

Where to find: fishing level 2 treasure chests

Neptune's Glaive details

11. Obsidian Edge (mid-game)

With a colour palette similar to that of Minecraft’s obsidian, the Obsidian Edge is one of the first swords you’ll encounter with some proper crit stats. It’s a worthy reward for making it so deep in The Mines…

LVL 6

DMG: 30-45

STATS: speed -1, crit power +10

Where to find: The Mines, floor 90 chest reward

Obsidian Edge details

10. Yeti Tooth (mid-game)

Although it looks nothing like its namesake, which may be better suited to a dagger anyways, the Yeti’s Tooth is fairly easy-to-find sword that, despite its large damage bracket, packs a punch. The 350g sell price doesn’t hurt, either.

LVL 7

DMG: 26-42

STATS: defence +4, crit power +10

Where to find: The Mines, floors 81-99

Yeti Tooth details

9. The Slammer (mid-late game)

For all the flack I’ve given clubs, The Slammer is one of my favourite weapons of the game, mainly due to its easy access and heavy-hitting power. I suppose you can justify the speed debuff that way…

LVL 7

DMG: 40-55

STATS: speed -2

Where to find: The Mines, floors 81-99 OR floor 110 chest reward in remixed mine rewards, Skull Cavern

The Slammer details

8. Steel Falchion (mid-game)

The Steel Falchion is a brilliant all-rounder sword that I’ve found myself relying on heavily as you approach the slog of mid-game, right before things start ramping up in technical difficulty. Its sleek look, speed, and crit booster make it the perfect blade to accompany you on your trips to the Skull Cavern.

LVL 8

DMG: 28-46

STATS: speed +4, crit power +20

Where to find: The Mines, floors 101+ OR floor 110 chest reward in remixed mine rewards, purchasable in the Adventurer’s Guild (post-floor 90) for 9,000G

Steel Falchion details

7. Dark Sword (mid-game)

One of the best things about this sword is its vampiric enchantment, giving you a 9% chance of regaining health (9% of your enemy’s, to be exact) upon slaying. I’ve found this becomes particularly useful in those infested levels of The Mines and the Skull Cavern, despite the speed decrease.

LVL 9

DMG: 30-45

STATS: speed -5, crit chance +2, weight +5, vampiric 9%

Where to find: Haunted Skull drop

Dark Sword details

6. Master Slingshot (early-mid game)

I’ve never really been able to master the slingshot in Stardew Valley, to be honest. That being said, if you can, the upgrade is an absolute no-brainer, dealing double the damage the regular slingshot does with the best ammo in the game. And, if like me, you sell your slingshot thinking you’ll never use it and decide you do want to learn how to use it after all, you can always buy another one in the Adventurer’s Guild!

Needs ammunition.

With the worst ammo (ie. fruit, eggs), DMG is 2-6. With the best ammo (iridium ore), DMG is 50-202

Where to find: The Mines floor 70 chest reward, purchasable in the Adventurer’s Guild (post-floor 70) for 1,000G

Master Slingshot details

5. Galaxy Dagger (late game)

Although unobtainable before the Galaxy Sword, it’s worth mentioning that if you like daggers, are a completionist, and have the vulgar amount of money this thing is worth to spare, it’s a worthwhile addition to your collection.

LVL 8

DMG: 30-40

STATS: speed +1, crit chance +1, weight +5

Where to find: purchasable at the Adventurer’s Guild (after obtaining the Galaxy Sword) for 35,000G

Galaxy Dagger details

4. Lava Katana (late game)

Expensive? Yes. Flashy? Yes. Over-rated? Maybe. But who doesn’t love the idea of a sword made of lava - especially with the stats the Lava Katana has!

LVL 10

DMG: 55-64

STATS: defence +3, crit power +25, weight +3

Where to find: purchasable at the Adventurer’s Guild (post-floor 120) for 25,000G

Lava Katana details

3. Galaxy Hammer (late game)

Similar to the Galaxy Dagger, but much, much, more painfully expensive, the Galaxy Hammer is a worthwhile (if you’re into that thing, I guess) addition to your Galaxy collection. The pro of this one, though, is it actually does sizeable damage and has some nifty stats for a weapon that is also a club!

LVL 12

DMG: 70-90

STATS: speed +2, weight +5

Where to find: purchasable at the Adventurer’s Guild (after obtaining the Galaxy Sword) for 75,000G

Galaxy Hammer details

2. Galaxy Sword (late game)

Again, with the same merits of the other Galaxy weapons, this sword ranks just above the hammer purely because of its speed advantages... and aesthetics.

LVL 13

DMG: 60-80

STATS: speed +4

Where to find: The Desert, after bringing a prismatic shard to the 3 pillars

 Galaxy Sword details

1. Dragontooth Cutlass (late game)

One of the, it has to be said, coolest looking weapons in the game, the Dragontooth Cutlass tops out above all the other weapons in the game. Although it took me a long time to obtain this iridescent sword, it was worth it in the end (although, I am biased - Ginger Island is one of my favourite parts of the game!)

LVL 13

DMG: 75-90

STATS: crit power +50

Where to find: Volcano Dungeon chest - accessed through Ginger Island, which can be visited by boat once you have repaired the boat behind Willy’s shop (unlocked by completing all community bundles, or selling your soul to JojaMart - yes, I’m judging you)

Dragontooth Cutlass details

BONUS: Infinity Weapons, assorted.

Seasoned players may notice that I haven’t included any of the infinity weapons (blade, dagger, or gavel) on this list, even though they all top out their galaxy equivalents. Part of the reason for this is because the infinity weapons, at least to me, feel a bit silly to use as actual weapons. They are, rightfully so, a little bit overpowered, and serve a much more specific function for me and many other late-game players: they give you something to do. The resources needed to make these weapons (which include all of their galaxy counterparts) require so much time and work in-game, that they become their own tasks in and of themselves, rather than tools to help you accomplish those tasks. This isn’t to say not to get them - they’re a fun challenge, and a much-needed one after so many hours in Stardew Valley, but don’t trouble yourself with them if you’re looking for them for weapon prowess. Chances are, you’ll be disappointed!
