Hello again! My name is Ember and, ah, you know the drill by now. Take a look at our top 10 Skyrim roleplaying mods!

10. Skyrim Unbound

A video discussing the mod.

Here’s a mod to get you started on your roleplay adventure. This mod is an alternate start mod that gives you the ability to choose your starting weapons, magic, and location. You can also play as a non-dragonborn AND start the civil war quest at the very beginning of the game. This one doesn’t offer the amount of detail that Live Another Life(https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9557) , but is very good for anyone looking to do generic roleplay.

How Skyrim Unbound makes things more fun:

  • Offers multiple different start locations
  • Allows you to choose starting weapons and magic
  • Allows you to start the civil war questline immediately

9. Relationship Dialogue Overhaul

A video discussing and demonstrating the mod

This is a great mod if you want more depth to be added to NPCs. Everyone reading this probably knows how repetitive and dull the dialogue in Skyrim can get at times, well this amazing mod fixes that. It’s a personal favorite of mine and I’d highly recommend using it.

How Relationship Dialogue Overhaul makes things more fun:

  • Adds over 5,000 new lines of dialogue
  • Adds 50 new voice types
  • Makes the relationship between the player and NPC actually affect the dialogue in a major way

8. Immersive Horses

A mod spotlight featuring the mod

This mod is absolutely amazing. I grew up with horses and still love them to this day, so Immersive Horses is one of my favorite mods out there. I think it’s really cool. Immersive Horses makes the horses in Skyrim so much better, and you can even have a whole herd of them that follows you!

How Immersive Horses makes things more fun:

  • Adds the ability to talk to NPCs while on a horse
  • Makes the mounting and dismounting animation look more realistic
  • You can give horses you own to followers
  • Can open the inventory of any horse you own to add and remove items
  • Can summon your entire herd of horses to follow you
  • So much more that I can't fit here, it’s super cool and you should really check it out

7. Spell Research

Another mod spotlight, this time for Spell Research

The Spell Research mod is self-explanatory, it expands on magic in Skyrim and allows you to conduct actual research. It also allows you to actually study artifacts and tomes, it’s pretty neat.

How Spell Research makes things more fun:

  • Adds tomes and artifacts to the game that you can go out and find
  • Adds a Victorian-era style alchemy system where you can make distilled liquids from alchemical ingredients and study them
  • Adds the ability to craft your own spells

6. SKSE

A video explaining how SKSE works and how to use it

An obligatory mention to the mod that makes all other mods possible, SKSE. You’re going to need this mod for any mod that adds new quests, locations, NPCs, and dialogue. I’ve linked a mod containing the INI, you can get to SKSE through an imbedded link in the description

How SKSE makes things more fun:

  • Enables other mods, like, a LOT of mods need this to work

5. Run Sprint and Jump

A video showcasing the new animations

The jumping, sprinting, and running animations in Skyrim all look kinda weird compared to how actual people look when performing those actions. Well, someone decided to go in and fix it to create a much more immersive experience.

How Run Sprint and Jump makes things more fun:

  • Fixes running, sprinting, and jumping animations
  • Makes NPCs and the player look normal when performing those actions

 4. Bosmer Armor Pack

A video showing the armor

Have you ever noticed how most of the races in Skyrim have some sort of armor from their culture? I have, it’s unfortunate that the Bosmer, Khajiits, Argonians, and Dark Elves don’t really have anything. Bosmer Armor Pack fixes this problem for the Bosmer, though, so now you can have a little more diversity.

How Bosmer Armor Pack makes things more fun:

  • Adds 29 armor pieces and 6 weapons
  • Works on any race, gender, and weight of character

3. Better Dialogue Controls

A video demonstrating the mod

It’s really easy to select the wrong dialogue option on PC because of the way the dialogue controls work. What do you do if you’re playing a good character and select a really mean line of dialogue? Well, except for reloading a previous save, nothing. Worry no more, though, because this mod will pretty much completely eliminate that problem.

How Better Dialogue Controls makes things more fun:

  • Fixes the dialogue controls, making it much easier to select your intended dialogue option
  • Ensures that your character won’t say something that’s out of character for them
  • Eliminates any worry around picking the wrong dialogue option, enabling you to play Skyrim without stressing

 2. Moonpath To Elsweyr

A video that discusses the mod

This one… oh, this one is super cool. It adds Elseweyr to Skyrim. If you’re roleplaying a Khajiit who’s feeling a bit homesick, this is a great mod for you. Even if you’re not roleplaying a Khajiit, this mod is amazing and I’d highly recommend it.

How Moonpath to Elsweyr makes things more fun:

  • Adds Elseweyr to Skyrim
  • Adds new quests
  • Adds new voice-acting and dialogue
  • Adds new creatures

1. Wearable Lanterns

 A video showing the lanterns

This last mod is a relatively small one, but it ups the realism of Skyrim by a lot. This mod enables the player to wear lanterns when they’re out at night or in a dark cave, which is pretty nice for when you get to a pitch-black area.

How Wearable Lanterns makes things more fun:

  • Adds lanterns that can be worn on the character’s belt
  • Lanterns can be crafted
  • Includes follower support
