[Top 10] The Sims 4 Best Ways To Make Money In A Fun Way

Who needs a job when you can make pretty flowers.

1. Selling found collectables

Chipping away at this rock like life chips away at my soul.

Selling found collectables is looking in your neighborhood or other neighborhoods for found objects like crystals or fossils. At times if you are digging a rock pile you can find a capsule that when you open there is something inside that you can sell. This is a great way to explore the neighborhoods and find new things around you. These collectables spawn in the same places and will reset daily.

This is one of the easiest ways to find a little bit of simoleons quickly. Some neighborhoods have more collectables than others, and it can be fun trying to find out how each neighborhood is. There are even collectables you can find in vacation spots and hidden worlds. The collectables you can find include aliens, elements, crystals, fossils, frogs, Mysims trophies, geodes, insects, metals, microscope prints, postcards, space prints, space rocks, and technically fish and harvestables.

Finding collectables is done by searching your neighborhood, vacation spots, parks, hidden worlds and looking in hidden worlds. You want to find dirt piles or rock piles which spawn in the same spot for items like crystals and Mysims trophies. Items like space rocks and aliens are found with the rocket and exploring space, while microscope prints are found with the microscope. Finding out how to find what collectable you are looking for is helpful, and looking up the best neighborhoods and parks to check out also gives you an advantage.

How it works:

  • After figuring out what collectables you want to find, look up where to find them.
  • If you want to find each of the collectables, find a list of the ones available.
  • Living in a neighborhood that has more dig spots available to utilize and fishing spots.
  • Check the dig spots daily if you are looking for those items. Finding a walk pattern can also be helpful.
  • Ensure that you have the skill level and item to find other objects like aliens.
  • If fishing, rotate through fishing spots if you are not catching as much. Utilizing places like Sulani also helps you get more fish.
  • If gardening, try to research and look up the most profitable plants, and if using seasonal plants make sure you are buying and planting the ones in season.

2. Farming

I'm a crunchy mom living my crunchy life.

“Farming” in the sims is something newer that was utilized with the cottage living expansion pack. Farming can include finding, planting and growing your seeds. This can include fruits, vegetables, or flowers. You can also purchase a barn or coop to raise cows, llamas or chickens (with the cottage living pack). Learning how to cook animal treats or purchasing them can give you perks with these animals. And while this doesn’t help you gain simoleons, you can purchase or knit clothing for your animals, and even the rabbits and foxes.

Something I do to keep the plants more organized is group them by season, but others also organize by type of plant (fruits by fruits, etc). I at times utilize the garden plots to put 4 smaller plants together and leave the trees on the edges or inbetween. If you want to make more of a profit, saving the plants, eggs, milk, etc until the Henford-on-Bagley fair then you can sell them at the market stall. If you are having trouble keeping up with the garden you can hire a gardener, but that costs simoleons that you may want to save.

How it works:

  • Start by harvesting local plants to plant on your lot.
  • Read gardening books to raise skill level.
  • When you have enough money, purchase garden plots to grow oversized crops.
  • Purchase barns or coops to raise cows, llamas or chicken.
  • When cleaning out the barn or coop you may find fertilizer for the oversized crops, utilize these.
  • Purchase or make animal treats to gain benefits from the animals you feed them too.

3. Crafted Goods

But dad, it's July. And we live in Florida.

One of my favorite things to do in the sims is have my sim learn a crafting skill like painting or fabricating in order to sell these items. Some crafts like cross stitching might not make as much, but if you pair them together you might be able to sell enough to make a living. Selling crafted items on plopsy can really bring in simoleons for you sims but may take time to do so.

This is why I enjoy it like I enjoy farming. It can start out harder but as you build up your skills you can bring in alot of funds. One of my favorite craftables that I enjoy to create and sell is knitted items and fabricated items. With fabricating you can also make and sell candles which is a cute fun way to make something new.

*A new craftable was also added with the crystal creations pack where you can make and sell jewelry.

How it works:

  • Figure out what type of craft you want to work on.
  • Gain up your skill level with said craftable by creating.
  • Sell your item directly or list on plopsy.
  • If you want to sell more items you can purchase a yard sale table to sell your items, or even own a retail shop where you can sell what you make.

4. Freelancing

How I look when I'm writing.

While this is technically a job, freelancing can be fun because you are focusing on one skill and you are choosing when to work and what job to complete. There are 4 options for freelancing which include artist, writer, programmer or paranormal investigator.

Freelancing is a great way to earn money while also focusing on other things like university, raising kids, or even working on one of the other ways to earn money on the side. The downside is you cannot do this while you already have a job, as this is considered a career in game.

How it works:

  • Pick which route you want to take for freelancing. If you already have higher level skills, try to choose the career that utilizes that.
  • Start small if your sim does not have a lot of extra time. The higher payout the longer it takes to complete.
  • Work on building that skill. The higher the skill the more options for work you can complete with higher payouts.

5. Owning a "bakery"

Edible? Maybe. Full of sugar. Yes.

This is one that unless you have mods to do it from home it may take awhile to build up to it. You are able to purchase a retail lot and sell your baked items out of it. Since you have to purchase the lot and either build or have the building already there, it can take time to work up to having your “bakery” . It is a fun way though to manage your retail shop with baked goods while also having to create the items in order to sell.

*Must have the get to work expansion pack

How it works:

  • Purchase a lot to build your “bakery” on.
  • Ensure that it is a retail lot.
  • Purchase the cupcake factory, or fridge and oven to make baked goods.
  • Build up your baking skill by making baked goods like cookies or pies.
  • When selling your goods ensure that you are making new items instead of restocking, making them more profitable.

6. Owning a vets office

She only bit me 5 times

Like having a retail shop, you can also purchase and run a vets office. You can purchase an empty lot and build your own, or purchase the premade lot with it fully furnished. After doing this you can open up and give check ups or treat pets that other sims bring in. This includes checking them in, diagnosing them, and then treating them.

This can be a fun but harder way to earn simoleons as it can take time to build up your business. I would use this as a way to have sims that really love animals or have the animal lover trait to work in a field that matches their traits.

To be able to do this you will need the cats and dogs expansion pack.

How it works:

  • Purchase pre-built vet lots, or purchase empty lots to build a vet's office.
  • Treat more cats and dogs to level up your vet skills. The higher your level the more options you have with other cats and dogs.
  • Supply treats in the office for the pets that visit.
  • Hire a cleaner for your office to help so you can focus on treating the animals.
  • If you have other staff that you hired, send them to training to level up their skills.

7. Becoming a rancher

Paid 40 dollars for the cutest sheep.

If you have the horse ranch expansion pack you can start running a ranch which can be similar to running a farm. With this expansion pack you can own horses, goats and sheep while also making nectar juice. In the Chestnut Ridge world there is a bulletin board where there are odd jobs you can complete with items from your ranch.

The best part is being able to raise, train or sell horses, and being able to purchase several goats and sheep. Training and raising horses can take a lot of time, almost on par with your sim working full time. You can utilize your animals on the ranch to do work on the bulletin board also making them worth the money and also to make a profit.

How it works:

  • Living in Chestnut Ridge can give you an advantage for the community board work.
  • Ensure that your lot has the items needed for horses, goats and sheep
  • If growing plants, goats and sheep can be helpful with weeding.
  • Plant prairie grass on your lot for the animals to eat. You are able to harvest this grass.
  • Utilize the community board if you have goats and sheep for grazing.
  • Level up your skills also and you are able to do work training others horses.
  • If you have multiple horses you are able to breed them and sell horses to earn simoleons.

8. Playing street music/Creating sheet music

Who cares if i'm good, its loud.

There are several instruments that you can purchase and learn how to play in the sims.

While this is not as lucrative as other ways to earn money, this is a fun way to utilize your instrumental skills. When you have the city living pack you are able to busk, which is playing music for tips on the street.

This is a way to earn money while also practicing your skill and utilizing the instruments you have learned to play like the violin or guitar. To busk you will need to have the instrument in your sims personal inventory. You will then go to a neighborhood in San Myshuno in one of the main neighborhoods. There you will find  a blanket with some speakers and equipment where you can select to play “busk with…instrument”.

How it works:

  • Pick what instrument you want to play and practice this skill.
  • If your sim starts out as a child you are able to build up the violin skill early.
  • Head to San Myshuno to a blanketed area in order to busk (play for tips).
  • When you are level 8 of an instrument skill you are able to write music.
  • Level 9 you are able to license songs that you produce.

9. Become famous

Basic and paid.

There are a few ways to become famous in the sims. You can be a comedian, writer, painter, music artist, or influencer (as a few). The more you work with that skill and put it out in the world, the more famous you can become. To become famous besides submitting work, you want to have a good reputation and participate in other activities to help you become famous like winning a game competition.

The more famous you become the better perks you can get which can also help you earn more simoleons, like earning more royalties or receiving gifts in the mail. These are not to be confused with quirks, which can be good and bad. The perks are something that you pick out when you reach certain levels of fame status. The fame status starts out on level one and goes up to level five.

How it works:

  • Pick how you want to become famous. You can sing, be a comedian, play an instrument, write books etc.
  • Level up your skill and practice this in the home.
  • Publish or sell what you do with your skill that you chose.
  • Participate in competitions to gain fame points.
  • As you level up your fame, choose options that allow you to earn more simoleons.
  • If you are leveling up your comedian skill you can write comedy books.

10. Be a landlord

Pay me what you owe me

With the for rent expansion pack you are now able to own a building and rent it out to others. You can build your own apartment or house and decide how many rentals you want on your lot and the rules that come with that lot. If the tenant breaks the rules then you can give them a fine to pay, which you may have to attempt several different ways or times in order to get them to pay. At the end of the lease you or the tenant can break the lease with no consequences.

The higher your rental is rated, the higher the rent you can charge. With owning the property you can live on the same lot or have your own lot that you own and travel to your properties. You have to also take care of anything that breaks and keep up on maintenance on the property.

How it works:

  • Purchase a pre-built house or apartment, or an empty lot to build on.
  • Furnish the rentals with the requirements and decor.
  • Pick out a sim or sims family to rent to.
  • Socialize with the renters to ensure that their needs are met.
  • Ensure that you do maintenance on the lot and attend to any problems with the rental.
  • If the sims move out and break the lease, take that time to update the rental as needed. This can help raise your rating of the rental.
