Ranked operators usually mean the strongest operators in the game. But it’s a lot more than that. What makes these ten operators in the list the best among the rest is the contribution that can make to the team. Their roles and abilities make them almost essential to have in any ranked match. For this article, I divided the list to five attacking operators and five defending ones.

10. Smoke

It’s time to get sweaty! Nah, just kidding. But it’s true that you’ll see Smoke a lot in sweaty matches. And I don’t really mean that in a negative way. It just means that when a defending team really wants to win, it’s a great idea for one of them to play Smoke. Until now, he’s still the best counter for those nasty smoke + shield plants, especially now that there are more shield operators available with the addition of Osa, and banning Montagne is not enough. Jager’s ADS has been nerfed as well, so there’s more chances for smoke grenades to pop off. And when they do, you’ll be thankful if you or one of your teammates are playing Smoke.

• Countering smoke + plant strats
• Area denial

9. Bandit

In most maps and objective areas in Siege, hard breaching plays a major role, and a lot of times, attackers being able to breach or not means the difference between losing the round or not. This is why Bandit is always a great operator to have around, especially when the player knows how to do the ‘Bandit trick’ well. If he’s able to cancel out a hard breach from the attackers, it means that they will have to find another, more difficult path of attack.

8. Kaid

Like what was mentioned above, hard breaching in Siege means a lot, and while Bandit can prevent a horizontal breach, Kaid can prevent vertical ones. His electroclaws can easily electrify reinforced hatches, but not only that, he’s also great at preventing horizontal hard breaches because the effect of his electroclaws can reach for around 1 meter. That means he can place it on angles that will be hard to reach by frag grenades or other gadget disabling tools. Especially now that Thatcher is almost always banned in ranked matches. It can be said that in many cases, Kaid is even better at horizontal breach prevention than Jager.

7. Wamai

You do not want to have a round in ranked where your team doesn’t have an anti-grenade operator. Most players in ranked are experienced players and they pretty much know the common and strong angles that defenders could be using, so it’s a simple thing for them to throw a frag grenade and score a kobe, or rain down stun grenades at them. You do not want that to happen to you or your teammates and that’s why you wanna have a Wamai or Jager on your team, or better yet, both of them.

Wamai can create rotation holes with his impact grenades though. Jager can’t. Especially when you know that the attacking team will have an Osa, you might wanna pick Wamai over Jager because impact grenades are a great counter for Osa.

6. Jager

Having read the entry on Wamai, you might be thinking, “Why should I pick Jager then if I can just pick Wamai?”. Two answers. 416-C and M870. Jager’s 416-C assault rifle is more powerful than any of Wamai’s guns, and it is highly customizable, meaning practically most attachments are available to it. Except the Acog of course. But what’s great about it is if you’re having trouble controlling its recoil, you can opt for attachments that provide recoil benefits, and if you’re great at holding down recoil with your own recoil control, then you can opt for attachments that provide speed and damage benefits instead, like the angled grip and extended barrel. On top of that, the M870 is considered by most as the most powerful shotgun in the game. Oh, and yep, there are enemy projectiles like Hibana’s X-Kairos that Wamai’s Mag-NETs' can’t intercept but Jager’s ADS can.

5. Finka

The only operator on the attacker side that can provide healing. But she provides a lot more. With her adrenal surge, she can make reloads faster, lessen the ear ringing effect of explosions, lessen the blinding effect of stun grenades, remove concussion effects, revive downed allies, and of course add health, and this applies to the whole team. With the recent update, she can now also activate her adrenal surge while in a down-but-not-out (dbno) state, reviving her and any other injured teammates. She’s a great buff provider that will make the attacking team, especially a coordinated one, very hard to kill.

4. Maverick

Bandit, Kaid, and Mute can prevent hard breaches, but they can’t stop Maverick from drawing peni.. *ehem* I mean making holes on reinforced walls with his special gadget. The holes or lines that he can make can serve as murder holes for him and his teammates, as well as holes for throwing grenades over to the opposing team in order to inflict death or destroy gadgets. When Thatcher is banned, which is pretty much 90% of the time anyway, you’ll be glad if there’s a Mav main on your team, because he’s a really effective gadget disabler.

3. Dokkaebi

Dokkaebi is one of the few operators that actually have two abilities. First is her logic bomb that forcefully calls defenders’ cellphones which can compromise their locations due to the loud ringing. Second is her ability to hack a dead defender’s mobile device, giving her and her whole team access to defender cameras, including Valkyrie’s or Maestro’s special gadgets. That’s a really powerful counter to Valkyrie. What’s scary about the logic bomb is that it doesn’t just compromises the location of enemies, the ringing from their phones can prevent defenders from hearing attackers’ footsteps and other noises as well. That can leave them vulnerable especially to surprise attacks like a rush or an Amaru.

2. Thatcher

When you’re starting as an attacker and Thatcher isn’t banned, then it’s just a no-brainer that your team will benefit greatly from having him in all attack rounds. There are very few areas in Siege maps where Thatcher’s EMP grenades aren’t really needed, and even in those few areas, they’ll still be of great help for disabling other enemy gadgets besides the anti-breaching ones. And in the areas where hard breaching is important, you’ll always be thankful to have a Thatcher because having a Thatcher, as long as the player knows how to time his EMP grenade throws to counter Bandit tricks, will mean an easy hard breach. And an easy hard breach for you as an attacker means a harder time for defenders.

1. Thermite

Still the king of hard breaching. The very big holes that he makes are just perfect, you don’t need to vault anymore unlike Ace’s and Hibana’s breaches, and the sound of his breach charges can cause panic to defenders. Partnered with Thatcher, a ranked team with a Thermite is a very solid and versatile team. And it’s not only his special gadget that makes him one of the best ranked operators in the game, his choices of secondary gadgets are also perfect for his role, and his 556XI is highly customizable to the player’s own game style.
