[Top 3] Pokemon TCG Best Water Decks

A look at the top three water decks in the Pokemon TCG.
I'm new here.

Hello all you fans of the Pokemon Trading Card Game and casual readers. Today we’ll be looking at three of the best water type decks from recent Pokemon rotations. Most of these decks were (at one point or another) at the top of their META and use graceful water type Pokemon as well as the soothing blue energy that go with them. Without further ado, let’s get into the list.

3. Blastoise

Superior Energy Retrieval from Plasma Freeze, Keldeo EX from Boudaries Crossed, and Blastoise from Boundaries Crossed.

  • This deck was popular from 2013 to 2015 and features Blastoise from Boundaries Crossed. This Blastoise is equipped with the Deluge ability, allowing you to attach as much water energy as you want from your hand each turn. This really floods your board with energy.
  • One of the best Pokemon to attach these energy to was Keldeo EX. This Basic with 170 HP has the Sacred Sword attack which does 50 damage plus 20 more for each water energy attached to it. It would be really easy to hit 170 or 190 damage with this attack, which was really all you needed.
  • If you’re worried about getting your energy back when a Keldeo gets knocked out, then look no further than Superior Energy Retrieval. This item discards two cards from your hand and then retrieves four Basic energy cards from your discard pile. Also, don’t forget about Rare Candy to help get Blastoise in play.

Here’s one version of the deck list:

2. Greninja

Starmie from Evolutions, Greninja from BREAKpoint, and Greninja BREAK from BREAKpoint.

  • The Greninja deck was popular from 2016 to 2018. It featured Greninja and Greninja BREAK from BREAKpoint. This combination provides Greninja with two attacks and one ability that aren’t great on their own, but are formidable together.
  • The base Greninja card is a Stage 2 with 130 HP. For one energy, it can use the Shadow Stitching and Moonlight Slash attack. Shadow Stitching deals 40 damage and removes all abilities from your opponent’s Pokemon during their next turn. Moonlight Slash deals 60 damage or 80 damage if you return an energy from Greninja to your hand.
  • Greninja BREAK boosts Greninja’s HP to 170 and adds the Giant Water Shuriken ability. This ability works when Greninja BREAK is active and allows you to put 60 damage on one of your opponent’s Pokemon if you discard an energy from your hand.
  • Playing a Starmie from Evolutions in this deck will make sure you don’t run out of energy and Splash energy allows you to reuse your Greninja evolutions over and over again.

Suicune V from Evolving Skies, Inteleon from Chilling Reign, and Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX from Chilling Reign.

  • This deck is currently popular in 2021. It combines Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX, Inteleon, and Melony from Chilling Reign with Suicune V from Evolving Skies to dish out lightning fast attacks.
  • Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX has 320 HP and two attacks that can be used for two energy. Ride of the High King deals 10 damage plus 30 more for each Pokemon your opponent has on their Bench while Max Lance discards up to two energy from Ice Rider and deals 10 plus 120 damage for each energy discarded.
  • Inteleon is a stage two Pokemon with the Quick Shooting ability. This ability adds 20 damage to any one of your opponent’s Pokemon and helps to make Ice Rider’s 250 damage attack more competitive.
  • Suicune V has 210 HP and it’s Blizzard Rondo attack deals 20 damage plus 20 more for each Benched Pokemon in play for two energy. Suicune V also has the Fleet Footed ability, allowing you to draw one card if Suicune is active.
  • Melony is a great Trainer for this deck since it allows you to attach a water energy from your Discard Pile to one of your V Pokemon and then draw three cards. It’s a kind of successor to Welder and works well with Ice Rider’s Max Lance attack. This deck can also utilize the Path to the Peak Stadium very effectively.
