The release of the Ashes of Outland expansion took many players by surprise. The addition of the Demon Hunter class changed the meta completely. Which are the best classes now?

The release of the Ashes of Outland expansion took many players by surprise. The addition of the Demon Hunter class changed the meta completely. This new class was so strong that everyone had to either play it or try to counter it. In this article, I will discuss which the strongest classes are after the nerf to Demon Hunter.

5. Priest

The Priest class got reworked alongside the release of Demon Hunter. The Divine Spirit – Inner Fire combo was removed from the standard format. However, the Master of the Light, Anduin still managed to find a top spot in the meta with his strong control decks. Currently, Resurrect Priest is the strongest Priest deck. It controls the board until it overwhelms its opponent with cards such as Catrina Muerte and Mass Resurrection. Galakrond the Unspeakable can help the deck win as well, as it provides massive amounts of value.

What makes Priest strong:

  • It has many powerful board-clears
  • It has the highest win-rate against Demon Hunter
  • It never runs out of resources

4. Rogue

Rogue is known as the tempo class. It has many Combo effects which help to establish board presence and gain tempo advantage. Rogue was the best class before the Ashes of Outland expansion, however, the addition to the aggressive Demon Hunter and the strong cards other classes received set Rogue back from the top of the meta. Nevertheless, Highlander Rogue is still one of the best decks in the meta and is very successful against all other decks, including Demon Hunter. The Stealth and Secret support received in the Ashes of Outland made Rogues a lot more flexible, giving them both strong aggressive and defensive cards.

What makes Rogue strong:

  • The overall power-level of Rogue’s cards is very high, which allows Rogues to use highlander cards very effectively
  • It has no bad match-ups
  • It is very flexible and can adapt to any meta and situation

3. Druid

Druids are famous for their ability to increase their mana crystals, allowing them to play stronger cards in the early stages of the game. Token strategies are also widely used, because of the many board-buffing effects Druids have such as Power of the Wild. Druid was one of the top classes in the game before the Ashes of Outland and the strong cards the class received from that expansion made it even stronger. Currently, the Embiggen Druid deck has shifted to another direction, dropping off Embiggen in favor of more ramping cards such as Overgrowth. There is also a strong Token Druid deck called Spell Druid.

What makes Druid strong:

  • Its ability to gain mana crystals and play strong cards early in the game
  • The strong board-flooding spells it has such as Glowfly Swarm and The Forest’s Aid
  • The ability to play expensive spells for free with the help of Kael’Thas Sunstrider and spells such as Bogbeam and Ironbark

2. Warwock

Warwock is the second-best class in the meta. Currently, the best Warwock deck involves the Galakrond package. Warwocks are known to use harm themselves in order to play very strong cards and gain a lot of tempo. The Warwock’s Hero Power is arguably the strongest in the game. Galakrond Warwock is the best deck in the meta as it has no weak match-ups and is very effective against Demon Hutner. Sacrificial Pact is one of the best cards in the deck as it destroys a demon for 0 mana and Demon Hunters only use demon minions.

What makes Warwock strong:

  • The great card draw from its Hero Power and Cards such as Veiled Worshipper
  • It has many strong board-clears such as Plague of Flames, Dark Skies and Crazed Netherwing
  • It doesn’t have any bad match-ups, which makes it perfect for climbing to the top ranks

1. Demon Hunter

Demon Hunter was released on the 7th of April 2020. Most of the cards for this class are free and can be acquired from the newest Solo Adventure. This class was intended to make the game easier for new and returning players as they wouldn’t have to collect cards from old card sets. However many of the Demon Hunter cards were insanely strong. Because of that, 4 of its cards were nerfed just a day after its release. Despite that, Demon Hunter is still the most popular and strongest class in the game. There are many Demon Hunter decks but the strongest are Tempo Demon Hunter, Highlander Demon Hunter and Big Demon Hunter

What makes Demon Hunter strong:

  • The overall power-level of its cards is really high
  • It has some really powerful aggressive cards such as Battlefiend and Umberwing
  • The card Kayn Sunfury allows Demon Hunters to ignore taunt minions and go face whenever they want to
  • It has very good card draw
  • It has many insanely strong late-game cards such as Coilfang Warlord, Flamereaper and Priestess of Fury
