Games Like Red Dead Redemption for PC

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most anticipated games of 2018.  It promises to bring us a huge open world, memorable characters, and an immersive story later this year.  In the meantime, you can warm up your gun-slinging skills with these 10 games.

10. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger

Call of Juarez Gameplay

Take your six-shooter and test your aim in the wild west with Call of Juarez: Gunslinger.  Play as Silas Greaves, a former gunslinger reliving the glory days of cowboys in the late 1800s, and hunt down some of the biggest criminals in history.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a story driven FPS western with high speed shooting action.

While Red Dead Redemption is a third person title, the two games both take place in the twilight of the wild west days.  Both feature a reformed criminal taking out gangs, outlaws, and other low-lives on a path to redemption.  Both games satisfy your craving for all-out cowboy action.

Catch enemies off guard with your lightning-fast reflexes.

Test your abilities with the return of Duels, where you go face to face with some of the fiercest gunslingers.

9. Hunt: Showdown

Hunt: Showdown Gameplay

Hunt: Showdown is an odd mash-up of battle-royal and survivor games.  Embark with a friend on an FPS mission to take down an unknown monster before anyone else.  Compete in a large map with other players to take home the loot, but don’t end up down their sights.  It’s-winner-takes-all

Using old-fashioned guns, axes, and whatever else you find laying around, Hunt: Showdown falls into the survival/post-apocalyptic genre.

While this game and Red Dead Redemption have some major differences, they share the gritty, fast paced, narrow gun slinging action.  Red Dead puts you into abandoned towns overrun by outlaws where you have to hide, run, and shoot quickly to take everyone out.  Hunt: Showdown puts you in the exact same position, running and gunning in tight, abandoned settlements.

Choose from a range of guns, axes, knives, and more to take down your prey.

Take down monsters and other players as you do what it takes to stay alive.

8. Westerado: Double Barreled

Westerado: Double Barreled Walkthrough

Explore the wild frontier in the retro-styled indie shoot-em-up, Westerado: Double Barreled.  Forge your own path as you decide who lives and who dies in this western free roam game.

Westerado: Double Barreled is a western arcade shooter where your dialogue, actions, and bullets impact how the rest of the game plays out.

While not a third-person fully 3D game like Red Dead, Westerado: Double Barreled is still an open world, behavior driven western.  Both games have you interacting with the world in a meaningful way.  And both games have you taking down bad guys left, right, and sideways.

Make quick shots to take down large groups of bandits.

Explore the open range on your own and go wherever you want.

7. Fistful of Frags

Fistful of Frags Let's Play

Put your quickdraw skills to good use with your friends with Fistful of Frags.  This multiplayer arena shooter has you and 19 other players battling to the death in the wild west.

Fistful of Frags is a competitive western FPS and is exclusively online multiplayer.

Red Dead Redemption didn’t have multiplayer, but that’s the biggest difference between these two games.  Relive the wild west and take down outlaws with your rifle or revolver in either game.

Dual wield for double the cowboy action.

Every map in Fistful of Frags is filled with nostalgia for the wild west.

6. Mafia III

Mafia III is a third person action game taking place in the noir of the 1960s.

At first glance, Mafia III may seem very different from Red Dead Redemption, but the games play the same.  You take a character on a sprawling adventure through a huge world, living on the edge of the law, and doing what you have to for revenge.  The biggest difference is having cars instead of horses.

Take out opposing gangsters on your path for revenge.

Choose from an array of fast cars for your getaways.

5. Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout 4 Playthrough

Grab your revolver and your radiation suit and set out to explore the Mojave Desert in Fallout: New Vegas.  Survive in a post-apocalyptic western frontier as you set out on a quest for revenge.

This game is a first-person RPG that has heavy emphasis on exploration.

Red Dead Redemption and Fallout: New Vegas both feature massive open worlds, the wild west, and plenty of shooting.  Take down gangsters, work with the sheriff, and hunt in both games.  Even Fallout’s combat has you slowing down time to shoot your targets, just like in Red Dead.

Explore the Mojave Desert in Nevada, California, and Arizona.

Set out on your own to make your own story in this desolate, post-apocalyptic world.

4. Exoplanet: First Contact

Exoplamet: First Contact Gameplay

Exoplanet: First Contact is basically Red Dead Redemption, but in space.  Take your lone cowboy to a foreign planet, with all futuristic technology, but with the lawlessness of the wild west.  Embark on a story-driven journey and explore the unknown.

The game is a third person, open world action RPG with both sci-fi and western inspiration.

The only difference between Exoplanet: First Contact and Red Dead Redemption is the science fiction elements of Exoplanet.  Both games have you waving your six-shooter and helping the helpless in a huge, lawless open world.

Satisfy your craving for both aliens and cowboys as you explore.

Make discoveries as you wander through Exoplanet’s sci-fi western world.

2. GUN

Gun Gameplay

GUN has you taking control of Colton White, a gunslinger on a quest, through the wild west.  Explore a world without law and take your revenge on your foes.   Your only limit is how fast you can draw your pistol.

GUN is an old-school action adventure game, where you go on missions, explore the world, and follow Colton White’s story.

Red Dead Redemption is often called a spiritual successor to GUN, and for good reason.  Both have you following a man with a questionable past, and have you going on missions to help those in need.  Explore the open range and shoot gangsters, low-lives, and bears to your heart’s content.

Take down bad guys ease as you draw your pistol as fast as you can.

10-gallon hats, spurs, and 6 shooters are all over the place in this western adventure.

1. Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West

Lead and Gold Gameplay

Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West is the best way to satisfy the craving for a gritty, tooth-and-nail western experience.  Join a team online and choose from one of 6 modes and battle it to the death in this online arena shooter.  Shoot fast or get shot, and do what it takes to win.

This game is an online-only multiplayer experience, and has you completing objectives, defending outposts, and shooting the bad guy first in a frontier setting.

Lead and Gold is as close to Red Dead as it gets.  Get dirty and take down the outlaws.  Take your 6-shooter and show the bandits who’s boss in either game.  The west is not for the faint of heart, and neither are these games.

Complete objectives to win in some modes or shoot the most bad guys in other modes.

Let out your inner cowboy as you rob banks, shoot bandits, and more.
