[Top 15] Fallout 4 Best Weapon Mods That Are Super Fun

Fallout 4 Best Weapon Mods
Lock and load.

Need Guns? You're in the right place.

Guns and Fallout go together like peanut butter and jelly. You can’t have fun in a post-apocalyptic world without being strapped with a weapon capable of turning a ghoul into swiss cheese.

But if you ever felt that the weapon choices in Fallout 4 are a little limited, then rest assured, you’re not alone. The progression of weapons in the game is far too linear. In the end, you’ll either end up with a combat rifle, a combat shotgun, the deliverer, or a laser rifle.

Many talented mod authors have worked tirelessly over the years to improve the quality of the game, whether it be graphical fidelity, gameplay overhaul, or new content. These mods are truly what keeps bringing people back to the Commonwealth every year.

To bring the excitement back into Fallout 4, let’s talk about the 15 best weapon mods that you can install to bring new life into the game. Be sure to endorse all of the mods listed in this list to support the mod authors who care about making this game great again.

15. See Through Scopes by henkspamadres

The see through scope mod is simply one of those essential mods to improve combat dynamic and immersion. Scoped combat has never been better. Instead of taking you out of the combat and transporting you into the scope, you get to see your surroundings which makes you less vulnerable to attacks.

The gameplay precision that you receive from installing this mod is amazing and one of the reasons why this is one of the best weapon mods available.

  • Precision in aiming
  • Better immersion

14. Prewar Binoculars by a_blind_man

Why is it that whenever you want to look far away, your only option is a weapon scope? I mean, it works fine, but, weirdly, that is the only option available to you.

Fortunately, this mod adds binoculars to the Commonwealth, allowing you to see far away and organize your tactics accordingly. Not only is it practical, but it also makes sense. Using binoculars upgrades the immersion to the next level.

It’s also fully customizable with various functions such as night-vision, better zoom, and even recon capabilities. This allows you to mark enemies without equipping that ugly recon scope on your weapon.

  • Better immersion
  • Highly practical
  • Fully customizable

13. DefenseGun by YonaTaku

This is the first of many new sets of guns you should install into your game. DefenseGun pretty much adds better alternatives to low-level gun options. If you’re tired of using pipe weapons, then get this mod ASAP.

The guns are fully customizable and come in many different varieties. You can make it a pistol, a rifle, or an automatic so long as you have the parts to craft the modifications. It’s just a great addition to the game’s leveled list. Now, every encounter with raiders will be more varied and interesting.

  • Adds an alternative to low-level weaponry
  • Fully customizable
  • Available from the get-go

12. Useful Crank - Laser Musket doesn’t require ammo by Hackfield

The laser musket you get in front of the Museum of Freedom in Concord is one of those weapons that Bethesda wanted you to use in the early game. But really, who uses this gun? It’s slow to charge and takes fusion cells that are rare to come by at this portion of the game.

This mod makes the laser musket a little more viable by pretty much taking away the need for fusion cells. Instead, it only requires you to crank and charge the musket to fire. No ammo is needed, which makes it a good weapon to go back to if you ever run out of ammo (somehow).

  • Makes the laser musket viable for early game
  • Adds a new spin to the weapon

11. Caravan Shotgun by DeadPool2099

There’s not a lot of shotgun variety in Fallout 4. So I think it’s about time to introduce some new variants that are not only powerful but lore-friendly as well. And what can be more lore-friendly than taking a canonical shotgun from New Vegas and bringing it over to the Commonwealth?

The caravan shotgun is one of the most beloved and reliable shotguns from New Vegas, so being able to use it in Fallout 4 is like a dream. The shotgun itself is similar to the double-barrel shotgun except for its damage which is 30% higher. This is perfect for fans of previous games as well as any shotgun surgeons who are tired of the same old combat shotguns.

  • Adds a new shotgun variety
  • Callback to New Vegas
  • Lore-friendly weapon

10. Fallout 3 10mm SMG by c1ph3rr

Speaking of bringing back weapons from past games, let’s take one from Fallout 3 as well. The 10mm SMG is the one that I would pick as one of the iconic weapons of Fallout 3. Luckily, the mod for it exists and it is wonderful.

The mod adds a fully customizable 10mm submachine gun that is both highly capable and lore-friendly. Not to mention, it looks cool and the textures are also very high quality. This is one to be added to the list.

  • A new submachine gun variant
  • Fully customizable
  • Lore-friendly

9. SREP REDUX - Service Rifle Expansion Project by Nadie2283

And we’re not done with this train just yet. Here’s another mod that adds the service rifle, also one of the most iconic weapons from Fallout New Vegas into Fallout 4. It not only adds the original service rifle but also new variants and looks that make it much cooler to use.

The weapon is also extremely high quality with amazing textures and design. While some of the newer variants are not exactly the most lore-friendly by Fallout standard, it’s not so bad to the point of breaking immersion. This is still a plus in my book.

  • Adds the iconic service rifle
  • Includes new variants
  • High quality and textures

8. Combined Arms - Modern Weapon pack NovaFinch

So by now, you might be sick of the throwback weapons from past games, so let's take a look at some weapons that are more modern and professional looking. The thing is, there are so many of them available in the Nexus, so which one should you pick? Well, why not all of them?

This mod is a collection of many different modern weapons available on the Nexus. It includes a ton of new, original weapons such as a new sniper rifle, various types of assault rifles, and several powerful handguns as well. If you’re looking to be a commando from the 21st century, then this is the weapon mod to get.

  • Adds a collection of new modern weapons
  • Makes the game more challenging if added to the leveled list

7. CROSS_Blades by Niero

Ever want to be a Jedi or a Sith lord in the post-apocalypse? Well now is your chance. This mod adds a melee weapon that’s pretty close to the aesthetic of a lightsaber. It’s quite lore-friendly as well depending on how you look at it. Why wouldn’t laser melee weapons be a thing in the Fallout universe?

The mod even comes with multiple varieties of energy melee weapons such as a katana and broadsword. Those may be a bit far-fetched lore-wise but still cool nonetheless. There aren’t many cool melee weapon mods available, but this one is top-tier, in my opinion.

  • Adds energy melee weapons
  • Live your Star Wars fantasy

6. Wattz Laser Gun by DeadPool2099

Do you hate the look of the laser weapons in Fallout? If so, you’re gonna love this one. The Wattz Laser Gun is an energy weapon inspired by the Wattz 2000 from Fallout and Fallout 2. So in a way, this is another nostalgia weapon. But who cares when it looks this good?

The mod author even took the time to set up the lore of this amazing weapon to give it a lore-friendly introduction. You can read it over on the mod page. It’s quite interesting. Depending on how you decide to mod this weapon, it could become as strong as a Gauss rifle, making it the strongest energy weapon in the game.

  • New and improved laser weapon
  • Lore-friendly
  • Very cool

5. Remote Explosive - C4 with Detonators and More by fadingsignal

Throwing grenades and setting up mines is great and all, but sometimes you just want a little more control of your explosives. Well, this mod does exactly that. It adds four new explosive types along with a detonator so you can set it up and blow it up of your own free will.

I’m sure a tactical mind can find a great use for these new additions. Clearing up an entire room of enemies can now be a lot more fun than simply going in guns blazing. We leave it to you to be creative with your new toys.

  • Adds more options to explosive
  • Allows for controlled explosives

4. AER15 Modern Laser Assault Rifle by TheBigLidowski

Here comes one of my favorite laser weapon mods in the Nexus. The AER15 is an energy weapon that just screams death to your enemies. Unlike the blocks of bricks that shoot lasers in vanilla Fallout 4, this gun looks like a weapon that strikes fear into the hearts of your enemies.

It has a very modern and futuristic look to it that just makes it an absolute marvel to behold. Not to mention that it is completely modular, so you can customize it to be whatever you want. Lore-wise, it may be a stretch, but maybe you can justify it as being The Institute’s secret weapon.

  • Modern and futuristic design
  • Highly customizable

3. Bullet Counted Reload System (BCR) by shavkacagarikia

This one is not a weapon mod per se, but it does affect how the weapons are reloaded. There is a bug in Fallout 4 where the reloading animation inaccurately reflects the amount of ammo that is being replenished. The most infamous one is the lever-action rifle, where the animation will have you reload all five ammunition despite only firing one shot before it.

This mod simply fixes that issue and makes sure that any weapon with an animation that can be visibly counted to be accurate to the amount that is being reloaded. This is also used for a lot of other mods so it's highly recommended to install this.

  • Fixes an annoying bug
  • Enables other mods to function correctly

2. Crossbows of the Commonwealth by TrickyVein

The Commonwealth has all this high-tech weaponry like laser weapons, artillery bombardment, an airship, and a freaking mecha-bot. How is it possible that not one wastelander decided to create something as simple and effective as a crossbow?

Well, it’s here now. You can finally get a crossbow in Fallout 4 via this mod. The crossbow added to the game is simple, yet effective. It’s fully customizable and you can fire different arrows to inflict different effects. It’s perfect as a sneak weapon too.

  • Adds crossbows to the game
  • Perfect for sneaking and stapling enemy heads to walls.

1. RU556 - Assault Rifle by FX0x01

I may be a bit biased, but I still think something as simple as an assault rifle is one of the best weapon mods available in this game. The RU556 is an old mod that has gone through a lot of variations over the years. This mod is popular enough that many other mod authors have created patches to improve the sound quality and textures of the weapon to make it look and sound even more badass.

I love the aesthetic of this weapon. It just screams “get sh*t done” doesn’t it? You can modify it to be semi-automatic, automatic, silenced, and even apply laser pointers for better accuracy. It's just a very high-quality mod that deserves to be in the top spot simply for how much love and care went into making it.

  • Very high-quality weapon mod
  • Fully customizable
  • Simple yet elegant
