[Top 10] Dota 2 Best Roamer Heroes

Dota has various roles and lanes, and various types of heroes are played in the lanes, but there are heroes that don’t belong in any lanes! These usually are the roamers/gankers whose simple motive is to move around the map and hunt down enemies. These heroes are often reckless and overpowered in the current meta. These heroes secure the lanes for their cores and make their life easy. Having a roamer is a must in every game as those early game rotations can make or break the trajectory of the game for your team.

To help you find the best roaming heroes to enhance your gameplay, we have compiled this list of the best 10 Roaming Heroes in 7.33b. These heroes are very much relevant in the current meta, hence they help you dominate your games.

10. Rubick

Rubick is known to be an evergreen pick as he never seems to go out of fashion, he can essentially be picked against any hero with crowd control abilities or high damage abilities. It does not take a master-tier Rubick to be excellent at stealing the right spells or spellcasting, all you need is a little practice to shine bright on this arcane thief. Rubick can disable his foes with the help of Telekinesis, allowing him to disable his foes. Rubick loves enemies a taste of their own medicine if he successfully uses their spells on them!

In 7.33, Rubick is frequently picked because of the flexibility he provides, along with the impact he has in the game. You can also ideally outfarm and kill certain heroes if you play a slightly greedy Rubick. He can also dominate effortlessly in the late game if he acquires his items, especially his Aghanim’s which allows him to steal an extra spell, which could lead to mind-boggling combos! Rubick is an essential hero if your team lacks a team-fighting support hero.

What makes Rubick a great roamer?

  • Has increased status duration on the spells he steals, allowing him to stun-lock his enemies while his allies beat them down.
  • Makes enemies use their spells wisely as the arcane thief can be quick to steal them.
  • He can also farm rather quickly, allowing him to translate into a more aggressive core-like playstyle if he acquires his items.
  • Deals immense magic damage right from the early game with the help of Arcane Supremacy.

Top 5 Best Endgame Items for Rubick

  • Aghanim’s Scepter and Shard - Decreased cooldown on Spell Steal and allows him to use Aghs upgraded version of stolen spells, exceptional if he can steal big ticket spells, which is the core reason for picking this hero.
  • Aether Lens - Increased cast range, can catch enemies off-guard with the increased range by using Telekinesis from a significant distance or even from the fog.
  • Aeon Disk - Saves him from getting burst quickly from enemy spells and also applies a basic dispel, although it has an extremely high cooldown of 180 seconds.
  • Force Staff - Allows you to force yourself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction they are facing, it can be helpful to escape or initiate on the enemies.
  • Glimmer Cape - Provides invisibility, and can also be used on allies to escape or to initiate on the enemies.

Rubick is strong against

  • Enigma - Enigma's ultimate Black Hole can be devastating if being stolen and dropped on multiple heroes.
  • Phoenix - Phoenix's signature Supernova, if cast successfully, can turn a team fights around if being stolen.
  • Shadow Fiend - Shadow Fiend's Requiem of Souls allows Rubick to output enormous crowd damage and control the enemy team.

Rubick is weak against

  • Anti-Mage - All of Rubick's spells are single targets and can be reflected by Anti-Mage’s Counterspell.
  • Bristleback - Rubick deals little damage on his own, and Bristleback can simply shrug off all his spells and chase Rubick down with his Quill Spray and the damage bonus from Warpath.
  • Nightstalker - Crippling Fear silences nearby heroes and cannot be dispelled, which hinders Rubick's way to retaliate when being jumped on.

9. Mirana

Princess of the Moon, the pristine Mirana is a highly praised hero of recent times. Her high pick rate at the recent International is evidence of her high capacity to dominate games. Mirana can be a flexible hero, meaning she can be played in multiple different positions depending upon the heroes she is facing, but ideally, she is to be played as roaming support, as it is the role where she shines the most at! In the current patch, Mirana is often played as a position 4 hero, this is due to the buffs to her arrow, making her highly relevant as a ganker.

Mirana is often picked as a roamer hero in the 7.33 meta as her exceptional spells allow her to have an optimum impact in teamfights, supplementing her ally cores. She can save her allies with her ultimate, making all of them invisible regardless of their position on the map. It can also be used offensively to gank unaware enemies, catching them by surprise. Mirana is an excellent position 4 hero, as she can fit into any lineup regardless of the heroes she is facing, making her a great addition to your team if you’re lacking team fight.

Why is Mirana a great roamer?

  • Leap can be used to initiate or escape from teamfights, providing decent mobility.
  • Sacred Arrow allows Mirana to stun for a significant duration or help allies chain-stun enemies during a teamfight.
  • The invisibility from Moonlight Shadow gives a degree of mobility, which can make Mirana or her teammates difficult targets in fights.

Top 5 End Game Items on Mirana

  • Spirit Vessel - Deals decent damage per second and reduces heals and lifesteal when used on enemies. Works exceptionally well with Mirana’s spells, decimating heroes within no time.
  • Lotus Orb - Can reflect single targetted spells if timed correctly, while also providing a basic dispel to Mirana upon usage.
  • Force Staff - Allows Mirana to force herself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction they are facing, it can be helpful to catch or initiate on enemies.
  • Eul’s Scepter - It can be used to sweep the Mirana or the targetted enemy into the air for 2.5 seconds, making them unable to use spells or move. This can be used to lock them down or set up for teamfights with the arrow.
  • Mekansm - Upon usage, it can be used to heal Mirana or her allies in an AoE, and can further be upgraded to Guardian Greaves in the late game, which provides a basic dispel on Mirana upon usage.

Mirana is strong against

  • Crystal Maiden - Sacred Arrow can be used to interrupt Freezing Field from a safe distance, forcing her to cancel it to dodge or get hit.
  • Witch Doctor - Paralyzing Cask is a slow-moving stun, and Mirana can Leap away from her allies to keep it from bouncing.
  • Drow Ranger - Sacred Arrow can be used to interrupt Freezing Field from a safe distance, forcing her to cancel it to dodge or get hit.

Mirana is weak against

  • Abbadon - Abaddon can remove Sacred Arrow's stun from his teammates with Aphotic Shield, or remove it from himself with Borrowed Time.
  • Arc Warden - Flux will slow and damage Mirana even after she Leaps since she will likely not be near allies.
  • Meepo - Earthbind prevents Mirana from Leaping or going invisible with Moonlight Shadow. She can be easily killed by Poof and Ransack while disabled.

8. Lion

Lion is one of those support heroes who fit any matchup, his versatility is highly unparalleled in the current meta. Lion is played by both beginners and professionals, as he works in every single skill bracket. He has multiple spells which can be used to disable his enemies while allowing him to deal damage to them at the same time. He is strong right from the early game as his lockdown followed by some damage from his team can neutralize enemies

In 7.33, Lion cripples enemies right from the laning phase. He can also drain their mana, turn them into powerless frogs, and all in all, make them highly useless. Lion also has very lethal nuke damage with his Finger of Death ultimate, which can further be amplified with the number of kills he gets with it, allowing a possibility of one-shotting his foes in the later stages of the game. Most heroes are essentially melee or ranged creep against Lion if they do not have a good start in the game.

What makes Lion a great roamer?

  • Lion is known to have a decent cast range for spells, which is further amplified with the items he gets.
  • Multiple disables, can be used to chain stun and cripple his enemies right from the early game.
  • High burst damage and magical output that scales well in the later stages of the game.
  • Highly relevant in any matchup due to his spell combinations.

Top 5 Best Endgame items for Lion

  • Aether Lens - Provides Lion with increased cast range along with providing decent stats and mana. It can further be upgraded into Octraine Core which reduces spell and item cooldowns by 25%.
  • Blink Dagger - On cast, Blink transports you 1200 units in the distance you are facing, can’t be used for 3 seconds if you take any form of damage. Blink is used by Lion to close the gap and to get on top of enemy heroes to chain disable them.
  • Force Staff - Allows Lion to force himself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction they are facing, it can be useful to escape from enemies or initiate on them.
  • Aghanim’s Scepter - AoE damage from Finger of Death ultimate, also reduces its cooldown. It prevents enemy heroes from grouping up together, as multiple kills can provide increased charges to Finger, making it deal more damage!
  • Aeon Disk - Saves Lion from getting burst quickly in teamfights, and also applies a basic dispel, although it has a high cooldown of 180 seconds.

Lion is strong against

  • Phantom Assassin - Agreed, Phantom Assassin has immense damage but she can get locked down quickly with all of Lion’s spells. She also has low magic resistance.
  • Void Spirit - Considered to be a slippery hero, Lion’s instant cast point can ruin Void’s momentum by locking him down.
  • Medusa - Medusa severely lacks mobility, Lion takes advantage of this and cripples her further, allowing his teammates to beat the serpentine warrior down in no time. Lion also steals all of Medusa’s mana which she so desperately requires to stand her ground in teamfights.

Lion is weak against

  • Rubick - The arcane magician can steal Lion’s spells and give him the taste of his own medicine, but with increased status duration and magic damage!
  • Tidehunter - Tidehunter has immense HP as well as high armor, allowing him to withstand Lion’s harassment in the early game. Kraken also dispels all of Lion’s spells inflicted on him.
  • Nyx Assassin - Nyx can deal immense damage to Lion with the combination of all of his spells, while also nullifying the Finger of Death damage dealt to him with the help of his Spiked Carapace.

7. Earth Spirit

Kaolin, the Earth Spirit is undoubtedly one of the best roamers in the game. Enemies can fare well in the laning stage against Earth Spirit due to their damage-dealing potential and low armor of Earth Spirit, but it is the mid-game where the latter shines bright. ES is an exceptional hero for catching slippery heroes, he can also disable them with his Geomagnetic Grip which silences them. This combined with Magnetize, his ultimate, can quickly turn Void into rubble with all the magical damage over time. Squishy enemies can’t do much if they are silenced and controlled by this earthly beast.

Just like most heroes on this list, Earth Spirit can be played in multiple roles, his flexibility ensures he fits in every other matchup and contributes to teamfights by disabling Void and his allies while dealing some insane damage that can’t be negated easily. Most heroes have ways to negate the silence and damage in the late game, but they can still fall prey to Earth Spirit if they are not cautious enough to use spells preemptively before the start of a team fight.

Why is Earth Spirit a great roamer?

  • Earth Spirit’s Rolling Boulder and Geomagnetic Grip can be used to disable enemies so they cannot escape with their spells.
  • Earth Spirit possesses exceptional mobility with his abilities, allowing him to quickly move around the map and initiate ganks from unexpected angles.
  • Earth Spirit's combination of mobility, crowd control, and damage output makes him a highly disruptive and impactful hero.
  • Rolling Boulder will allow Earth Spirit to get on top of the enemy at all stages of the game.

Items to buy on Earth Spirit

  • Spirit Vessel - Immense DPS and heal reduction to enemies when used. This item can be used to reduce enemy lifesteal as well as the HP he gains, also rendering heals and Satanic useless.
  • Force Staff - Allows Earth Spirit to force himself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction he is facing.
  • Ghost Scepter - Upon usage, it makes Earth Spirit immune to physical attacks while making him unable to attack at the same time.
  • Heaven’s Halberd - Earth Spirit can use this item to disarm enemies, making him unable to attack for a few seconds.
  • Glimmer Cape - Provides invisibility, and can also be used on allies to escape or to initiate on enemies.

Earth Spirit is strong against

  • Pudge - Earth Spirit can easily disrupt Dismember because he can disable from a long distance with a Stone Remnant and Rolling Boulder.
  • Tinker - The huge range of Stone Remnant and Rolling Boulder enables Earth Spirit to stop Tinker from teleporting to his fountain.
  • Invoker - Earth Spirit combines stuns and silences with his spells and can apply them from a great distance, disabling Invoker for a longer duration.

Earth Spirit is weak against

  • Slark - Pounce's root prevents Earth Spirit from using Rolling Boulder to escape, making it easier for Slark to shut him down, especially in the laning phase.
  • Clockwerk - Clockwerk's Battery Assault disables Earth Spirit's Rolling Boulder, while his  Power Cogs ensure, that Earth Spirit can't move away from it.
  • Abbadon - Aphotic Shield is a strong dispel, meaning it can save allies from Earth Spirit's stun, slow, silence, and Magnetize.

6. Clockwerk

Clockwerk, the mechanical genius is quite a rare sight in the current meta, but he is often seen picked against various enemies as he can easily disrupt enemy onslaught. He is played in the offlane or as roaming support, as early rotations can cause great damage to potent and vulnerable heroes. With his ultimate, Hookshot, Clock can easily stun him and trap him even if the former has Black King Bar, he is a thorn in the backside of enemies with the Hookshot into Cogs combo.

The scout potential with Rocket Flare can help track enemy locations and potentially remove them from teamfights. Most enemies can lane well and deny farm to Clockwerk in the laning phase but Clock as we know relies more on levels as opposed to farm to have an impact in the game. Items just amplify his impact in the late game.

Why is Clockwerk a great roamer?

  • Power Cogs greatly limits enemy positioning, potentially wasting the duration of Black King Bar in a team fight if Clockwerk gets to use Hookshot.
  • Battery Assault makes it hard for enemies to fight Clockwerk inside his Power Cogs.
  • Clockwerk's Blade Mail forces the enemy carry to avoid attacking while inside Power Cogs, effectively rendering him useless for a few seconds.

Top 5 End Game items on Clockwerk

  • Blademail - Reflects enemy damage to them upon activation. This is highly useful in teamfights to make enemy carries stop hitting you as they rely heavily on physical damage to have an impact.
  • Crimson Guard - Upon usage it provides immense physical damage block to Clockwerk, his allies, and even buildings in an AoE. This is highly useful against physical damage-dealing heroes.
  • Aghanim’s Shard - Provides Jetpack ability which provides flying movement, flying vision, and bonus movement speed. It is helpful to escape from Sven as he does not have unobstructed pathing.
  • Black King Bar - It provides Clockwerk with spell immunity from all of the magical damage spells, making it easy for him to initiate the teamfight without worrying about getting targeted.
  • Force Staff - Allows the Clockwerk to force himself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction they are facing, it can be helpful to catch or initiate enemies with the help of Battery Assault.

Clockwerk is strong against

  • Enigma - Black Hole requires channeling, making it easy to be interrupted with Hookshot even when Enigma has Black King Bar, as it pierces magic immunity.
  • Monkey King - Power Cogs pushes Monkey King out of Wukong's Command, ending his ultimate.
  • Sniper - Clockwerk is also the least optimal target for Sniper to attack in a teamfight, although more experienced players will rarely make this mistake.

Clockwerk is weak against

  • Dazzle - Due to Clockwerk's slow damage output, Dazzle will have more than enough time to Shallow Grave any enemy Clockwerk initiates on.
  • Disruptor - Glimpse moves Clockwerk away from allies struck by Hookshot, or under attack by Battery Assault.
  • Lifestealer - With Feast and Rage, Lifestealer is nearly impossible for Clockwerk to bring down, and is the last hero Clockwerk wants to be trapped within Power Cogs.

5. Bounty Hunter

Gondar, the Bounty Hunter is loved by all the roam mains. He deals decent damage, tracks his enemies’ movements, and escapes effortlessly with his Shadow Walk. Bounty Hunter is known to be an annoying hero right from the laning phase, as not only does he steal your gold, but he also does pure damage with his spells and you never quite know where he is. Along with dealing damage, he can be played in the support position as well, itemizing the support way is also possible for him. In short, he is quite the flexible of the bunch.

Not only does Bounty possess the unique ability to steal their gold, but his spells also inflict pure damage, leaving enemies guessing about his whereabouts. When played in the roaming support position, Bounty Hunter showcases his flexibility by adapting his itemization to the needs of his team. He can opt for items like Pipe of Insight to provide crucial magical resistance to his allies or choose Solar Crest to enhance their armor and evasion. With his versatile playstyle and disruptive presence, Bounty Hunter remains a constant annoyance to his enemies.

Why is Bounty Hunter a great roaming roamer?

  • Bounty Hunter excels in ganking and roaming due to his high mobility and ability to move around the map undetected with Shadow Walk.
  • His Track provides a valuable vision of enemy heroes, allowing his team to track their movements and set up ganks.
  • With Jinada, Bounty Hunter can deal bonus damage and slow enemies, making him a potent threat during early engagements.
  • The gold bonus from Track helps Bounty Hunter increase his gold and provides a significant net worth advantage for his team.

Items to buy on Bounty Hunter

  • Spirit Vessel - Immense DPS and heal reduction to the foes when used. This item can be used to reduce enemy lifesteal. It can render heals and Satanic useless.
  • Solar Crest - Provides the caster and the targetted friendly unit with 6 bonus armor for 12 seconds along with increased movement and attack speed. In the case of an enemy, the bonuses are reversed.

  • Lotus Orb - Upon usage, it reflects targetted spells to the caster. Along with that, it can be used to dispel any enemy debuffs. It can be used to dispel the effects of certain spells inflicted by enemies.
  • Drum of Endurance - Consumes a charge and gives +45 attack speed and +13% movement speed to nearby allies for 6 seconds.

Bounty Hunter is strong against

  • Sniper - Sniper relies on distance. Bounty Hunter can use Shadow Walk to get close, and Jinada can do massive damage and slow down Sniper in the early game.
  • Nyx Assassin - Nyx Assassin wants to start ganking as soon as he gets his Vendetta. Keeping him Tracked prevents him from ganking, and thus from doing his job in the game.
  • Shadow Fiend - Bounty Hunter can destroy a Shadow Fiend's game by ganking his mid-lane with Shadow Walk, Jinada, and Shuriken Toss.

Bounty Hunter is weak against

  • Bloodseeker - Rupture can turn Bounty Hunter's mobility against him and prevents him from escaping with Shadow Walk due to the potentially heavy damage.
  • Broodmother - Bounty Hunter's single-targeted arsenal of abilities makes him an easy target for Broodmother and her Spiderlings.
  • Death Prophet - Death Prophet's Silence allows her to prevent Bounty Hunter from escaping with Shadow Walk.

4. Nyx Assassin

The nefarious Nyx Assassin is an extremely annoying hero to play against heroes who have no way of escaping his clutches. Nyx has various ways of disabling his foes with his extensive toolkit. Nyx can stun them, mana burns them, stun them again, and finally hit them down with the impressive damage from his ultimate, Vendetta. He is active right from the laning phase, as he can acquire a few levels and wander off into other lanes to catch unsuspecting enemies. If he gets a follow-up from his team, there is no way his enemies escape alive!

Nyx is often picked instantly against squishy spell-casting heroes. His abilities are just too good to be ignored if you’re looking to expand your hero pool as a position 4 support player. A well-timed use of spells can catch enemies off guard and turn the trajectory of the game in Nyx’s favor. He is highly useful right from the get-go, hence he is ranked so high up on our list. He can be the enemy carry’s worst nightmare if you let him have the chance!

What makes Nyx Assassin a great disabler?

  • Mana Burn generally deals more damage to intelligence-based heroes.
  • High movement speed and armor right off the bat.
  • Spiked Carapace can stun enemies without breaking invisibility from his ultimate, Vendetta.
  • His stun lock potential can allow his allies to follow up with immense damage to beat down his foes.
  • He can freely scout around the map with Vendetta which renders him invisible for a decent duration.

Top 5 Best Endgame items for Nyx Assassin

  • Blink Dagger - Blink transports Nyx 1200 units in the distance he is facing, it can’t be used for 3 seconds if he takes any form of damage. Blink is used to closing the gap and getting on top of his enemies and following it up with Impale.
  • Force Staff - Allows Nyx to force himself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction they are facing, it can be helpful to catch or escape from the foes.
  • Aghanim’s Scepter - Allows Nyx to burrow beneath the ground, increasing his cast range and making him invulnerable to any damage.
  • Lotus Orb - Upon usage, it reflects targetted spells to the caster. Along with that, it can be used to dispel any enemy debuffs. It can be used to dispel the effects of certain spells inflicted by enemies.
  • Spirit Vessel - Immense DPS and heal reduction to the foes when used. This item can be used to reduce enemy lifesteal. It can render heals and Satanic useless.

Nyx Assassin is strong against:

  • Crystal Maiden - Spike Carapace easily interrupts Freezing Field ultimate.
  • Enigma - Black Hole can be easily interrupted by Impale or Spiked Carapace.
  • Sniper - Assassinate is easy to reflect with Spiked Carapace for massive damage.

Nyx Assassin is weak against:

  • Bounty Hunter - Track hinders Nyx Assassin's ganking attempts with Vendetta, making him an easy kill for gold as well.
  • Bloodseeker - Thirst is always a threat to Nyx Assassin, hindering his attempt to escape using Vendetta on low HP.
  • Slardar - Corrosive Haze hinders Nyx Assassin's ganking attempts with Vendetta, as well as reducing his armor and making him very vulnerable due to his low health pool.

3. Techies

Truth be told, Techies isn’t a big hero in the current meta but his exceptional AoE damage and silence are just too hard to ignore if you want to play against illusion-based heroes or spell-reliant heroes. Techies have various ways of ensuring that his laning counterpart has an awful start, his high magic damage is just impossible to negate as most heroes have extremely poor magic resistance in the early game. The silence from the shard upgrade, Blast Off, is significantly longer, making his foes succumb without even being able to use any spells, reducing their teamfight potential!

The master Techies players know the best spots for mining, and you may know what happens if you walk over them as a squishy low magic resistance hero. It is a nightmare playing the late game against Techies, due to both his Sticky Bomb and Reactive Taser, making him highly susceptible to the magical damage burst. All the illusion heroes also seem to melt whenever Techies uses his spells on them. If you are playing a squishy carry hero against Techies, you better try your best to end the game as early as you can, or just abandon when it is too late!

Why is Techies a powerful roamer?

  • Techies deal lots of magical damage with Sticky Bomb, Blast Off!, and Proximity Mines that bypass high armor heroes.
  • Sticky Bomb is easy to land on a large clump of enemy illusions and will damage and slow them and all of their illusion, making him excellent against illusion-based heroes.
  • Reactive Tazer upgraded with Aghanim's Scepter can be used to protect an ally from getting attacked by enemies.
  • Blast Off! silences enemies in an AoE, preventing them from casting spells.

Top 5 End Game Items to buy on Techies

  • Kaya - Increased mana reduction and decent stats along with low mana cost and cooldown reduction on both items and spells.
  • Force Staff - Allows you to force yourself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction they are facing, it can help catch or initiate on enemies in case they use any escape spells or items.
  • Eul’s Scepter - Can be used to sweep yourself or the targetted enemy into the air for 2.5 seconds, making them unable to use spells or move. This can be used to lock enemies down or temporarily shut them off from the fights.
  • Octraine Core - Provides spell lifesteal and stats along with reducing the cooldown on spells and items by 25%
  • Lotus Orb - Reflects targetted spells hence can also be used to reflect enemy spells and help Techies escape sticky situations

Techies are strong against

  • Enchantress - Techies does huge amounts of magical damage, which will bypass Untouchable.
  • Chaos Knight - Techies have a great AoE (area of effect damage) to deal with Phantasm illusions.
  • Morphling - Morphling usually has low max health due to shifting strength into agility, which combined with Blast Off's silence will prevent him from using Waveform and Adaptive Strike (Strength), leaving him defenseless and making him an easy target to burst down.

Techies are weak against

  • Anti-Mage - Thanks to Counterspell's magic resistance, Anti-Mage has a good chance of surviving a Blast Off combo.
  • Death Prophet - Exorcism's ghosts will automatically clear all Proximity Mines revealed when Death Prophet walks near them, provided that the ghosts do not have a specific target at that time.
  • Juggernaut - Juggernaut can trigger Proximity Mines while in Blade Fury, and can walk away from initiation with Blast Off if Blade Fury is activated before the silence.

2. Keeper of the Light

You shall not pass, says the illuminating Keeper as he holds his ground against his menacing foes. Keeper of the Light is back in the meta due to the recent buffs to his abilities, allowing him to deal more damage and sustain in the lane. His spells allow him to be played both as a core and as a roamer, allowing flexibility in his item, as well as skill, builds. If you manage to master this wise Keeper, you shall be allowed to pass into higher MMR ladders. KOTL has insane heals which can further save him or his allies during teamfights.

The Keeper can be played both aggressively and defensively. He provides excellent lane control with his illuminating abilities that can clear waves of creeps and harass the enemy heroes. KOTL's ability to recall allies can quickly turn the tides of a battle, making him an excellent choice for saving allies or reinforcing an attack. Keeper’s ultimate provides a massive amount of burst damage in teamfights, making him a valuable roamer to any lineup.

Why is Keeper of the Light a great roamer?

  • Keeper of the Light has an incredible amount of utility, with abilities that can both heal and damage enemies, as well as provide the vision for his team.
  • Keeper of the Light’s Illuminate ability is one of the most powerful wave-clearing spells in the game, allowing him to quickly farm and push lanes while also dealing damage to enemy heroes.
  • Keeper of the Light has great mobility and can quickly move around the map thanks to his ultimate, Spirit Form, which allows him to move through terrain and deal damage to enemies.
  • KOTL can also provide mana to his teammates while also providing cooldown reduction, allowing them to spam their abilities and stay active in fights.

Items to buy on Keeper of the Light

  • Force Staff - Allows Keeper of the Light to force himself or the targetted unit 600 units ahead in the direction they are facing, it can be helpful in escape or initiate on the enemies.
  • Aghanim’s Shard - Grants Spirit Form which teleports the targeted friendly hero to Keeper of the Light’s location. It is an ideal way to help your core heroes have an impact on the map instead of having them farm all the time.
  • Scythe of Vyse - Scythe offers KOTL immense disable potential which he seems to lack. It turns the targeted enemy into a pig, making them unable to use any spells or items while also reducing their movement speed. This disabler item is of high value to him as it allows him to dominate the late game, locking down his foes and decimating them with the follow-up from his team.
  • Aeon Disk - Provides a strong dispel for Keeper of the Light if his health falls below 70%, making him take no damage for a brief duration while also making his attacks deal no damage. It also provides 75% Status Resistance for the same duration.
  • Glimmer Cape - Glimmer Cape is more of a support’s way of escaping enemy damage or aiding their allies in escaping as upon cast it turns you or the targetted ally invisible.

Keeper of the Light is strong against

  • Monkey King - KOTL’s ultimate Will-O-Wisp will stun Monkey King from Tree Dance by destroying his tree.
  • Broodmother - Illuminate wipes out Broodmother's spiders and prevents her from pushing the lane. It also gives the vision to reveal where Broodmother is hiding in the trees.
  • Nature’s Prophet - Keeper of the Light can stall Nature’s Prophets with Illuminate. This makes him strong against pushing heroes.

Keeper of the Light is weak against

  • Juggernaut - Blade Fury allows him to be immune to all of Keeper of Light’s abilities.
  • Legion Commander - Duel can be used to instantly take Keeper of the Light out of a team fight.
  • Nightstalker - Crippling Fear prevents Keeper of the Light from using his spells to keep his team alive during team fights.

1. Spirit Breaker

Ferocious and roaming heroes, like Spirit Breaker, pose a significant threat to squishy counterparts due to their lack of armor and HP. Surviving the relentless assault of Spirit Breaker can be extremely challenging, as the impact feels akin to being struck by a powerful force. Beyond the raw damage output, Spirit Breaker's global presence with abilities like Charge of Darkness forces heroes to remain cautious, limiting their farming locations to secure areas on the map.

While some heroes may opt to purchase Black King Bar for spell immunity, it proves ineffective against Spirit Breaker's bashes and Nether Strike, which can bypass such defenses. Although Spirit Breaker may face difficulties in the late game as other heroes catch up in terms of farm, his primary role revolves around ganking high-priority targets or providing vision for allies to initiate ganks. This constant disruption and interference can greatly hinder heroes from playing to their full potential and negatively impact their overall game performance.

Why is Spirit Breaker a great roamer?

  • Charge of Darkness enables Spirit Breaker to gank vulnerable heroes in the early game, disrupting their ability to accumulate important resources.
  • The combination of Nether Strike and Charge of Darkness can effectively interrupt a hero's attempt to unleash a powerful ultimate.
  • Spirit Breaker proves to be a formidable foe, possessing multiple tools such as Bash, Charge, and Nether Strike that can significantly dismantle an enemy hero.
  • When Spirit Breaker charges onto a target, he can easily use Dust of Appearance to ensure visibility on them even while they are stunned.

Items to buy on Spirit Breaker

  • Shadow Blade - Provides invisibility which can be used to escape or set up on enemies. Shadow Blade is a staple item on Spirit Breaker as it allows him to have an edge over his enemies, as they quite literally would not know what hit them.
  • Drums of Endurance - Upon usage, it provides a high attack and movement speed bonus to SB and his allies in an AoE. It can be used while charging to increase his charge speed and damage.
  • Black King Bar - Provides spell immunity, making you invulnerable in the fight against enemy’s items in case they opt for Orchid or Scythe
  • Echo Sabre - Provides immense stat gain along with increased physical damage and attack speed
  • Solar Crest - Upon cast, it grants armor, attack speed, and movement speed to the targetted ally while reducing the same stats from enemies. This reduces enemy armor and eventually weakens him, making him unable to stand firm in teamfights.

Spirit Breaker is strong against

  • Anti-Mage - Anti-Mage usually relies on Blink to escape, but with a vision from Charge of Darkness it is easier to catch him.
  • Clinkz - Once caught with dust, Clinkz could be locked down for a long time by Spirit Breaker and has nowhere to escape.
  • Nature's Prophet - Charge of Darkness allows Spirit Breaker to catch Nature's Prophet out when he tries to split push.

Spirit Breaker is strong against

  • Disruptor - Glimpse drags Spirit Breaker back from an escaping Charge, or takes him out of a ganking Charge.
  • Omniknight - In the early game, Omniknight can look like an easy target for Spirit Breaker, but with Purification and Degen Aura, what could be an opportunity could quickly turn into a disaster.
  • Clockwerk - Battery Assault will continuously prevent Spirit Breaker from using Nether Strike, Charge of Darkness, and even right-clicking because of his long attack animation.
