Most Fun Top Down Horror Games:

4. Darkwood

A new perspective of horror arrives. Work by day, pray by night that you survive.

Darkwood is a new type of horror as it's one that has you in a deep world, one that changes every single day. You'll need to scavenge by day, and then protect yourself at night, else fall victim to what lies out there. There will be no guides, no hand-holding, only your wits, your skills, and plenty trying to kill you. Will you be able to survive? You're going to find out.

Horror games often flirt with the idea of testing you as well as scaring you. But with Darkwood, they honestly try and push you to be the best survivor you can...if you can survive at all that is.

This game proves horror can be viewed from any perspective.

Constant vigilance will be needed to survive.

3. Project Zomboid

What's better than a zombie game? A multiplayer zombie game where everyone tries to live, and everyone will die.

In Project Zomboid, you must test your skills as you find, loot, steal, and build in order to survive the world full of zombies that are all around you. You can play in singleplayer and test yourself against the AI. Or, you can jump into a multiplayer server and see how you stack up against players all over the world. You will die eventually, but if you're quick, if you're clever, and if you're willing to go all out, you can make sure a TON of other players go out first.

Project Zomboid is a game that prides itself on taking the norms and putting a twist on them. A multiplayer server zombie game? Epic. A massive map where anything can happen anytime? That's pretty cool.

Zombies are everywhere, and they won't stop hunting you, will you make it long?

Did you not believe us when we said they were everywhere?

2. Survivalist

Humanity has fallen apart, and after you emerge from your bunker after the fallout, you must try and rebuild society! Or die trying.

In Survivalist, you must do your hardest to find the remaining sections of humanity, then talk with them to gain their trust, and then work together to start the world over. As their leader, you will make choices that affect them all, and they will remember all that you do. What's more, you're not the only people trying to rebuild the world. You'll have to work something out with them, or fight them to ensure your survival.

One of the big things that makes Survivalist so good is that it has a deep conversation system with AI that remember all your choices, and they will come back around, regardless of whether they were good or bad. And with all the randomness you might expect from a game like this, there's plenty of ways it can go.

Stay in the know, and be mindful of everything that's going on.

Every decision you make will be remembered by all, so choose wisely.

1. How To Survive

You're shipwrecked. You find yourself on an island that defies explanation, and there's one question that flows through your mind..."How to Survive?"

Learn fast or die, as How To Survive pushes you through a massive island full of enemies, and demands that you learn how to fight back, or else. You must find food and water to stay healthy. Shelter to protect you from the elements. Be able to build fire. And of course, get weapons to help you fight the mutated freaks that call this island home. But don't worry, there's a survival guide out there waiting to be found! Get it, and you might have a better shot. Or don't, and see if you can survive using your natural instincts.

How To Survive is as much a parody game as it is a real one. It gives you plenty of danger for sure, but it also pokes fun with the whole "put together the survival guide book". It's really clever, but also really challenging.

Survival isn't just a requirement, it's a gameplay mechanic!

Zombies will try to end you, end them first!
