Arcania: Gothic 4 is very different from its predecessors, so fans of the Gothic series may be easily disappointed. It is very linear, you just go from one location to the next slashing the poor enemy victims on the way, again and again until you finish the game. The fun part is gaining experience and skills, improving equipment and sometimes the enemies can be a fun challenge. Be warned that the content of the game is quite poor, there isn't anything particulary interesting about it, so choose a more interesting RPG to play if you can find one.

Sadly, Gothic franchise didn't survive the split between Piranha Bytes and JoWood. While Piranha Bytes gave us a solid new franchise Risen; it fell upon JoWood and Spellbound to continue Gothic's rich tradition. And they failed miserably. Game mechanics are bare-boned compared to the predecessors, and even solid graphics and fine storyline can't fix the fact that Arcania: Gothic 4 is pretty much below average game which will get boring after only a few hours into it.
