Sylvanas Windrunner: 10 Most Important Facts About Her

How did she become the fearsome warchief we know today?

Sylvanas is current Warchief of the Horde, she rules in Undercity.

Sylvanas Windrunner has recently been promoted to Warchief of the Horde by former warchief, Vol’Jin, before he died. Sylvanas started off a member of the Alliance many years ago before the Legion’s forces overtook Azeroth. Now, she is a fearsome commander of the entire Horde army!

10.  Sylvanas Windrunner quickly advanced through her ranks, becoming Ranger General of Quel’Thalas while the High Elves were members of the Alliance. She protected her people, thwarting horde invasions in the second war, bringing about a short era of peace

Silvermoon City is located in the northern part of Quel’Thalas.

Sylvanas Windrunner was a high elf from Quel’Thalas. She was an excellent huntress, she quickly advanced through her ranks, becoming Ranger General of Silvermoon City during the second war, while the high elves were members of the Alliance.

Sylvanas loved her city. She protected her people valiantly, thwarting horde invasions in the second war, bringing about a short era of peace.

9. Sylvanas stayed ever vigilant. Arthas Menethil, controlled by the Lich King, led an onslaught into her city to use Sunwell. She resisted but Arthas’ invasion reached her in no time

Her fallen comrades were reanimated and used against her as scourge forces advanced.

Sylvanas kept a steady watch over Silvermoon City, knowing the peace was bound to end. Arthas Menethil, controlled by the Lich King, lead an onslaught into her city to use the Sunwell her people protected.

She resisted but Arthas’ invasion reached her in no time. Sylvanas believed they were betrayed, even so, there was nothing she could do to stop it. Her walls were overcome, as were here people.

8. Rather than killing her, Arthas severed her soul from her body, transforming it into a chaotic spirit, the first High Elven banshee. The newly formed banshee was forced to aid Arthas in slaughtering her people as he victoriously claimed the Sunwell

Arthas could have easily allowed Sylvanas the satisfaction of death. Instead, he used the powers of the Lich King to sever Sylvanas’ soul from her body. It transformed her into a chaotic spirit, the first banshee of the high elven race.

The newly formed banshee was forced to aid Arthas in slaughtering her people as he marched to Sunwell. To her horror, she witnessed the resurrection of necromancer Kel’Thuzad, which could only be done at the Sunwell.

7. Sylvanas’ spirit was forced to follow Arthas, who had imprisoned her body. As his powers weakened, she used her powers to reclaim her body. She became an undead creature set on getting revenge

Sylvanas’ body was locked in an iron coffin, forcing her to stay a Banshee. As the Lich King’s powers weakened, she noticed her free will returning. She avoided alerting Arthas by continuing to follow his orders.

Sylvanas grew tired of her form, after seeking out her body she used her powers as a banshee to reclaim it. No longer a banshee, she became an undead creature set on getting revenge on Arthas for the torment he put her and her people through.

6. She plotted an assassination against Arthas with several dreadlords. Sylvanas even came up with a fall back plan in case Arthas survived the dreadlord’s attack. Despite having failed to assassinate Arthas, Sylvanas succeeded in taking Lordaeron for herself

Sylvanas severely underestimated Arthas’ will to live. In case the dreadlord’s first attack in the city failed, she set up a backup plan for her own attack.

Neither plan proved fatal. Sylvanas was angry that Arthas had managed to escape her grasp. Since she knew he was working on reclaiming the kingdom Lordaeron she flipped her efforts on claiming the kingdom for herself.

5. She rose up against the Lich King in Northrend but ultimately fled back to her posts in Undercity. She ruled here until Arthas’ fall, it’s said she occasionally returned to Northrend but never made further advances

After securing her base in Lordaeron, she began another attack against the Lich King in Northrend. Things didn’t work out according to her plan so she fled back to her posts in Undercity. As a forsaken, her life ran a new course and she had a new type of people to protect.

She ruled over the undead in Undercity until and after Arthas’ fall. It’s said she occasionally returned to Northrend but never made further advances on Arthas. When she was informed of his death she was relieved.

4. Sylvanas invested much of her time battling against the Alliance. She nearly succeeded in killing Genn Greymane, when his son took the shot for him. After, she defeated the alliance at Andorhal

Power and rule weren’t enough to satisfy the Banshee Queen. Sylvanas invested much of her time battling against the Alliance, specifically in Gilneas. She nearly succeeded in killing Genn Greymane, when his son took the shot for him at the last minute.

Having not slain her mortal enemy, she headed to Andorhal to continue her onslaught. Here, her battle succeeded, the city fell before her. Many of her followers were disappointed in this new version of Sylvanas who sought out bloodlust and destruction.

3. When Garrosh Hellscream was appointed warchief of the Horde in Cataclysm, Sylvanas conspired with her sister, Vereesa to poison him, but Vereesa gave the plot away to Prince Anduin Wrynn at the last minute

The tides of time ever changing, Garrosh Hellscream was appointed warchief of the Horde in Cataclysm. Sylvanas did not care for the new Horde leader. Knowing this, her sister Vereesa secretly met with her to attempt an overthrow.

Sylvanas conspired with Vereesa to poison Garrosh, ending his reign early. The plan was set up to be executed perfectly, until Sylvanas accidentally changed Vereesa’s mind. Calling Vereesa her “little moon,” Sylvanas expressed her wish to slay and rebirth Vereesa into an undead like herself.

Unsettled by Sylvanas, Vereesa gave the plot away to Prince Anduin Wrynn at the last minute. He prevented the assassination and Sylvanas took to the forests, slaughtering innocent animals to calm her rage.

2. During the invasion on the Broken Shore new Horde leader Vol’Jin trusted Sylvanas in keeping the Horde safe. She made the difficult decision to abandon the alliance as the Legion proved to have the upper hand. She saved the Horde, but disgraced the Alliance in the process

The Legion’s return prompted Horde and Alliance forces to team together in facing Gul’dan. During the invasion on the Broken Shore new Horde leader Vol’Jin was badly injured, he hastily trusted Sylvanas in keeping the Horde safe.

She made the difficult decision to abandon the Alliance as the Legion proved to have the upper hand. She called the Horde back, bringing Vol’Jin with her and her army to safety. She saved the Horde, but disgraced the Alliance in the process.

Sylvanas brought Vol’Jin back to Orgrimmar shortly before he passed away. He admitted he did not have much trust in her, but he knew she would guide the Horde to victory. She accepted the title and the Horde swore their allegiance to her.

Sylvanas is the first and so far the only female warchief of 6 Horde warchiefs (including herself). Unlike many of our past warchiefs, Sylvanas rules in Undercity. She still hungers to destroy the Alliance.

Sylvanas has met some horrible fates throughout her long life, overcoming those fates has shaped her into one of WoW’s most powerful heroine.
