31 Hearthstone Legendary Cards To Own Your Opponents With

Hearthstone is one of the best games out there right now.  We all want to move up in rank and legendary cards are the best way to do it.  So let’s find out how to win and move up in the season rankings with the best legendary cards to finish off your opponent.

31. Herald Volazj

One of Yogg Saron’s most ancient warriors

We start off the list with a priest Legendary from Whispers of the Old Gods.  The possibilities with this card are crazy.  Herald Volazj synergizes very well with many other cards, but you need to make sure you have the combo that you want.  Sylvanas, Velen, Ragnaros, or Malygos would all be fun cards to get copies of, but what about some larger combos?

How about some Corrupted Healbots combined with an Auchenai Soulpriest?  That’s some big face damage right there.

Grabbing a couple extra Polluted Hoarders would be nice too for some card draw.  Or how about having 2 Emperor Thaurissans?

This is a card with a lot of potential for big priest combos, even if it isn’t too strong at first glance.

30. Confessor Paletress

Priestess of the Light

Jeez is this an all priest article?

Another hit or miss priest card, I get it, but this one also has huge potential.  If you get Majordomo Executus you might as well just concede, but otherwise you’re looking at free legendaries.

One heal is all it takes to get a huge drop.  What if you can get lucky and pull Y’Shaarj or Ragnaros?  The game is probably close to over at that point.

The other huge advantage with this card is that you can get that first legendary on turn 9.  Hopefully you already have cards on the board.

If you’re opponent can’t take her out quickly they are in big trouble.  They are going to have to focus everything they have on her so they don’t get a second legendary dropped on them.

29. Arch-Thief Rafaam

An ethereal thief who travels to different worlds to retrieve powerful artifacts, and claims to have collected artifacts from hundreds of worlds.

This is a fun one.  The three artifacts available will either give a minion +10/+10, fill your board with 3/3 zombies, or deal 10 damage split among all enemies.

These are all great effects but let’s take a closer look at each to see how strong they actually are.

Adding +10/+10 to a minion is great, if you have a minion alive and your opponent doesn’t have a silence.

Filling the board with 3/3 zombies is a great way to take back some board control.  The problem is that it takes a while for them to be useful, after you drop Rafaam it’s going to be 2 more turns until the zombies can attack, so hopefully you have the turns to spare.

Being able to deal 10 damage is great if you need a finisher, it’s too bad the damage is split between all enemies.

Overall it’s a fun card, but there are big time drawbacks to Rafaam.

28. Reno Jackson

Reno is a world renowned archaeologist, explorer, and treasure hunter...or so he says.

Indiana Jones, I mean Reno Jackson gets a gold picture just because he is so fun and such a great savior.  You really need to tailor your deck to this card in order to make him the most effective.

Having just one copy of each card can make deck crafting more difficult, but Reno can come in and save the day so easily that it’s tough to not try him out a few times.

He also combos great with Youthful Brewmaster and the many Rogue cards that will return minions to your hand.  You can just keep healing over and over again and know your opponent is raging.

27. Brann Bronzebeard

Brann Bronzebeard is the youngest of the three Bronzebeard brothers, with King Magni Bronzebeard and Muradin Bronzebeard being his elders

Brann is great because he synergizes with just about any battlecry.  Twilight Drake is just as good as C’Thun.  Even drop down a Cabal Shadow Priest or Fire Elemental.  He works great with a Coldlight Oracle to get big card draws.

He also works great with any minions with Discover.  Getting two free cards of your choice is never a bad thing.

Just remember that Brann is going to be the main target of your opponent, so make sure you can cast at least 1 battlecry before your turn ends.

26. N’Zoth, the Corruptor

N’Zoth is one of the four Old Gods of Azeroth, malefic beings that were sequestered by the titans during Azeroth's primordial ages

This is a card with a wide variety of uses and deathrattle deck builds.  He can be used with an aggressive face deck to bring back all kinds of small minions.  He can also be used in a slower deck to bring back Tirion Fordring or Sylvanas Windrunner.

His stats are weak for a 10 drop so you had better make sure you have strong deathrattle synergy before you put him into your deck.

If you can drop him at the right time your opponent will concede right away.

25. Leeroy Jenkins

Leeroy Jenkins is a valiant human paladin. He is always the first into battle, with or without the readiness of his forces

Good old Leeroy Jenkins, a super popular card in face decks that has fallen out of favor.  Basically a fireball with 2 health, Leeroy can be a great finisher in the right spot.  The two whelps summoned for your opponent aren’t an issue if you are going to win the game, and even if not, a couple 1/1’s aren’t going to lose a game for you (hopefully).

24. Cenarius

Lord of the Forest and patron god of all druids, Cenarius is one of the most powerful and influentialdemigods of Azeroth

Cenarius is nice for the diversity of his uses.  The two treants is nice if you need some taunts to gain back board control and save yourself a turn.  The real fun comes with the +2/+2.  This is basically another savage roar if you need a finisher.  Make sure you have a few minions on the board and you can really beef them up.  Especially with so many other big Druid minions, this can be a real game changer.

23. Ysera

Ysera the Awakened, the former green Dragon Aspect, was charged with the protection of the Emerald Dream, but also watched over Azeroth

First and foremost let’s take a look at the dream cards you can get:

That’s 5 pretty powerful cards right there.  Ysera works great in dragon decks (she is a dragon after all), and can open up so many options for you.  Her health pool is great for trading with smaller minions and she is safe from priest shadow word removals.

The only real drawback to this giant dragon is the random draw of dream cards.  You never know what you’ll get so you need to plan accordingly.

22. Anub’arak

Anub'arak was the last king of the nerubian empire of Azjol-Nerub

Now we’ve come to a truly powerful card with great synergy.  A control Rogue becomes very powerful with this card.  Combined with shadowcaster you’ve created yourself a monster of a deck. Throw in N’Zoth and it’s an easy GG.  When Anub’arak is killed you get him back with a 4/4 in his place, then next turn you can summon him again.  With all the rogue synergies to return minions to your hand you can easily save him from silences or damage.

21. Harrison Jones

Harrison Jones is an archaeologist and explorer, much like his namesake

Indiana Jones again?  What the hell is going on?

Harrison Jones is a card who goes in and out of the meta depending on what is happening.  Sometimes there are a ton of control warriors that you run up against, sometimes not.  Harrison can get those pesky weapons off the board nice and easy, with card draw to boot.

Those weapons do belong in a museum.

20. Al’Akir the Windlord

Al'Akir the Windlord was the Elemental Lord of air. He ruled over his domain of Skywall from his seat at the Throne of the Four Winds.

Al’akir was always a semi weak card, the stats are just too low.  Then Whispers of the Old Gods came out with the super synergy Evolve.  Now Al’Akir can be dropped, attack twice on turn 1 (maybe even with Rockbiter Weapon for extra damage) then evolved into a better 9 drop card.  This combo gives you huge possibilities and makes Al’Akir viable once again.

Maybe you get lucky and he evolves into something like King Krush for another charge and GG.

19. Chromaggus

Chromaggus is a two-headed dragon beast in Nefarian's service, who resides in Blackwing Lair

Chromaggus is an amazing late game card.  When you’re draw is getting low he can fill your hand with just what you need to finish off your opponent.

He doesn’t work as well early in the game because you could get your hand filled too much and be unable to draw, but he’s a life saver once it gets late.  He’s always going to be a target as soon as he is dropped, so try and protect him if you want the full value of his ability.

18. King Krush

King Krush is a huge, extremely dangerous and rare devilsaur that stalks Sholazar Basin

For any other class, King Krush would be an auto add.  But with hunter it’s not really necessary.  Hunter is almost always played as an aggro deck.  If an aggro deck gets to turn 9 they have probably already lost.

King Krush is still a great finisher.  If you’re playing the arena he should always be picked and if you’re trying out a new hunter deck that isn’t aggro you’ll want him.

His stats are good with charge, making him a big time hitter for great face damage, or taking out a big enemy minion.

17. Justicar Trueheart

Gatekeeper to the Argent Tournament

This card was built for Priest and Warrior decks.  Her battle cry will double the strength of their hero powers.  Four point heal or four point armor gained?  Yeah, that’s pretty strong.  As if control warrior wasn’t already too strong, now it gets even stronger.

For most of the other classes the stronger hero power isn’t so great.  Her stats are weak so she doesn’t really fit into too many other decks.

16. Malygos

Malygos was the Aspect of the blue dragonflight and one of the most ancient creatures living on Azeroth and the eldest of the Aspects

If you want to play combo Rogue this is the card for you.  Malygos’ high health pool makes him hard to take down so you may get 2 turns worth of making spells like Sinister Strike go for huge damage.

He does work with other classes too.  Mage and Shaman both come to mind since both have lots of spells to deal direct damage.

15. Hallazeal the Ascended

Hallazeal the Ascended isan elemental ascendant residing within L'ghorek in the Abyssal Depths

This guy synergizes well in so many ways.  With Elemental Destruction he can clear the path from any aggro decks (and heal you in the process).  He also works great with regular damage spells to give yourself some extra healing.  You can even use Lava Shock to heal and get back your overloaded mana crystals for even more healing.

Shaman was always lacking in healing abilities so this is a great way to fix that.

14. Nefarian

Nefarian, also known as Blackwing, was the eldest son of Deathwing and his Prime Consort Sintharia.

Nefarian is a great card for any dragon deck.  Getting 2 random class cards can be great or terrible (Totemic Might anyone?).  It can also be game changing (Pyroblast).  His big stats are also great to get a big body out on the board.

Late in the game he is awesome to help fill your hand with cards if you’re running low.  Just make sure you get the cards you want from that random draw.

13. Prophet Velen

Velen has been the leader of the draenei people since their flight from Argus 25,000 years before the first orcish invasion of Azeroth

With all the new Whispers of the Old Gods cards that have come out, Prophet Velen is a must have for Priest decks.  He needs to be dealt with immediately by your opponent or else he’s in for a load of trouble.

Beyond being able to double healing for yourself, Priest has many cards that can be used to make healing deal damage, not you can double it all.  If you’ve already used Justicar you can double your heal to 8, or have it deal 8 damage with an Auchenai Soulpriest.

If he gets silenced, no big deal because you’re still getting 7/7 stats for 7 mana.

12. Lord Jaraxxus

Lord Jaraxxus is summoned byGrand Warlock Wilfred Fizzlebang when the gnome attempts to summon a doomguard

Lord Jaraxxus is a savior to all Warlock decks.  Late in the game if you are low on health, just play him and BOOM 15 health.  Plus you get a 3 attack weapon and an insane hero power.  For 2 mana you can drop a 6/6 infernal.  Late in the game your opponent will have no chance of clearing them all, giving you a huge advantage.

Lord Jaraxxus is without question Warlock’s best legendary and a game winner in so many situations.

11. Emperor Thaurissan

Emperor Dagran Thaurissan was the Emperor of the Dark Iron clan, along with his wife, Moira Thaurissan, the estranged daughter of King Magni Bronzebeard

Almost cracking the top 10 is Emperor Thaurissan, a guy with an insane ability.  Lowering the cost of all the cards in your hand makes for some crazy combos that shouldn’t be possible.  You also know that it is going to work for 1 turn at least, so you don’t have to worry about him being removed right away (which he will be, he’s just too strong).

10. C’Thun

C’Thun is the Old God of madness and chaos, one of the four ancient and powerful creatures who ruled the world of Azeroth long ago before being defeated and imprisoned by the Titan.

The top 10 begins with the legendary that everyone has: C’Thun.  Decks and cards are build around this monster and he is here for one thing: finish games.

Once you get him up to 13 or 14 points you can drop him and at least wipe a board out of your opponent’s minions.  Get him stronger and he will probably end the game outright.

Any hero can use this legendary effectively so he is a viable card for any deck, as long as you’re willing to build it around him.

9. Sylvanas Windrunner

Lady Sylvanas Windrunner, styled variously as "the Dark Lady" and "the Banshee Queen", is the supreme ruler of the Forsaken, one of the most powerful factions of undead on Azeroth

Sylvanas has always been one of the best minions and the first one most people craft.  Her hero power is so unique that she fits into any deck.  Your opponent needs to either silence her immediately or attack her with everything he has in the right order so something good doesn’t get stolen.

She has a good 5/5 body so she brings some decent board presence with her even if she does get silenced.  Not as much of a game finisher as she is a game changer, but a huge game changer she is.

8. Alexstrasza

Alexstrasza the Life-Binder, former Aspect of the red dragonflight, is the guardian of all life in the world of Azeroth

Absolutely one of the best cards, the biggest issue with her is she has been around so long...she’s boring!

Being able to heal yourself or damage your opponent is a huge ability, game changing.  Works great if you’re a control deck (mage especially) to knock down your opponent, or if you get very low you can heal yourself back up.

She is a card that fits into any playstyle and every hero benefits from having her.

7. Xaril, Poisoned Mind

Xaril is an expert alchemist who specializes in using poisons and explosive compounds

Weak stats, small mana cost.  What the heck is with this weird bug?  Well he is all about his toxin cards.  These small cards do all kinds of different things from add damage to a minion to returning them to your hand.  It gives a lot more versatility to Rogue decks, something they already have a lot of.

Xaril can be combined with many different cards to return him to your hand to keep getting toxin cards.  Filling your hand with them will give you lots of 1 mana spells to cause havoc on your opponent.

He’s also one of my favorites because he was the first legendary I drew from Whispers of the Old Gods.

6. Y’Shaarj, Rage Unbound

Y'Shaarj was the most powerful and wicked of the Old Gods, eldritch horrors who threatened the world of Azeroth millennia ago

This guy is a beast.  Great stats and being out a new minion every turn.  As long as you don’t pull any of your battlecry minions you’re in great shape.  He works really well in Druid decks because of how many big bodies Druid has that he can pull every turn.  Once you flood your board with huge minions your opponent will have no chance.

5. Yogg-Saron, Hope’s End

One of the four Old Gods of Azeroth, mysterious and dread elder beings that were defeated and sequestered by the armies of the titans during the world's primordial ages

This is a card that can go either way, when it works out well it’s GG, when it doesn’t, it’s probably GG for you.  He works well with heroes that cast tons of spells (obviously) like Rogue, Mage, and some Hunter decks.  When he gets dropped random spells fly like crazy blasting everything, including yourself.  This guy causes chaos, which is a great way to finish off your opponent.

4. Ragnaros the Firelord

Ragnaros the Firelord was an incredibly powerful Elemental Lord and master of all fire elementals

The final neutral minion on the list is the super powerful Ragnaros.  Blasting random enemy minions for big damage, Ragnaros is a must have in just about any deck.  He can’t attack, but he can bypass taunts and hit your opponent directly, if you get lucky.  He can take down minions without any damage done to him, and can be a great finisher when the time is right.

3. Grommash Hellscream

Grommash "Grom" Hellscream was the legendary chieftain of the Warsong clan, a powerful warrior and best friend and chief advisor to Warchief Thrall

The finisher for most control Warrior decks, Grommash is just a bruiser.  When paired with Warrior’s many ways to damage his own minions, Grommash quickly becomes a 10 damage charge who can wreak havoc on your opponent.

He is the ultimate finisher, one of the reasons control Warrior decks are so scary.

2. Tirion Fordring

Highlord Tirion Fordring is the Supreme Commander of the Argent Crusade and the current bearer of the Ashbringer

The best Paladin card comes in at number 2.  Tirion is an absolute beast and has long been one of the best Hearthstone cards.  He is a big body who also gives you a 5/3 weapon when he dies.  Your opponent must attack him thanks to his having taunt, and the divine shield guarantees that he needs to be dealt with by two cards instead of one (unless your opponent has a pesky silence).

If you play Paladin you need to craft Tirion.

1. Archmage Antonidas

Antonidas was the leader of the Kirin Tor of Dalaran and teacher to the archmage Jaina Proudmoore

Finally, the best finisher in Hearthstone, Antonidas.  Draw a fireball whenever you cast a spell, so unlimited fireballs.  Yeah, that’s pretty strong.  If your opponent can’t get rid of him in 1 turn the game will most likely be over.  You can just keep blasting him with 2 fireballs every turn, taking out minions or his health pool.

He is basically an auto win if he isn’t killed on the first turn he is dropped.  So rejoice if you can keep him alive, cause you’re about to win.

Now get out there and move up in the rankings.  Everyone can get to Legendary with just a little bit of patience and hard work...plus a few great legendary cards.
