It's all about the story in Mafia II. It's a strong character driven story that takes you into the dark murky world of low level gangster life and throws you right into the action. It's an exciting game with great atmosphere and well a very well executed plot. Yet in this modern day and age of epic open world games filled with unlimited scope any re-visit now can feel dated, stale and just a little bit boring, at least the shooting is still pretty thrilling.

As someone who had played (but didn't really enjoy) the original Mafia, I can say this game is an almost perfect masterpiece. The story is genuinely compelling, with varied missions ranging from simple carjackings to fist fights and all-out gun battles. The cars handle differently depending on their make and the season - a feature rarely seen in these kind of games. My only problem with the game is that, apart from the main mission, there is not much to do in the city.

I just cannot say enough for this game. Although the idea is not very new and the gameplay is nothing too new either but the tiny details (mirrors on cars cracking, getting fined for overspeeding, the sheer variation in the sound of guns and their distinct vibration on controller) make the gameplay feel great. However, the story is one of kind, thoroughly enjoyable, heartbreaking, and just great even the second time you play through it. The setting is also pretty nicely done and takes you to the mid 1900's of America very effectively. Its just that the story is so great it will make you genuinely care for the characters and get involved in the game, and give you a very wholesome satisfying experience in the end. It is by far my one of my favourite games.

Amazing game, that is almost completely different than the first Mafia. Mafia II brought to this world entirely new story of a gangster. Thing what I like about this game is that the gameplay is great and enjoyable. Story, that have sense and make us feel somehow and the game plays with our emotions. So after finishing this game. I don't have any bad feelings about wasting my time. Only thing I miss is sandbox mode from previous Mafia.

I really dunno how to describe it,that was amazing really. the required space for the audience to understand the atmosphere, the sense of robbing a jewelry, mixed with the WWII atmosphere with great story-telling power that itself does the trick and of course synchronizing each character with the voice of itself, not graphically admirable in dialogues and in details but the masterpiece created by the voice actors was unforgettable(for example "robert costanzo" as "joe barbaro" and "papallardo"). i wish to hear their voices again in mafia 3.

'Mafia II' is cool to play and visual retreat for people amazed by the Mafia culture of 1940 and early 1950's around New York, Chicago or LA in America. Apart from the storyline to follow with in the game you are also free to roam around the world with the vehicles of 40's and 50's.

Playing Mafia 2 for the first time seems like playing GTA until you hit another car doing 40MPH and you have died. The realism of Mafia 2 becomes unrivaled and you spend hours looking for secrets hidden in the game and enjoying the beautifully crafted old vehicles as well as age appropriate music. totally makes you feel like you are way to become a Mafia boss

The immersion which I felt whilst playing Mafia II left nothing to be desired. Every fired gunshot within Empire Bay felt realistic, powerful and deadly. My actions created statements which would stand the test of time for all eternity within the never ending universe of Mafia II. Robert De Niro got nothing on me.

Mafia II like the first Mafia has very strong storyline where the main character starts from the very bottom and rises to the gangsters’ top. Sequel has of course better graphics and more colorful game world. But unfortunately the game became quite short, you simply don't have enough time to try everything it suggests and the game itself doesn't provide you many options except the main quest line. Still whenever you are the fan of Mafia or the whole genre or not this game should be played anyway.

While many compare Mafia II to GTA IV, I would rather avoid such a comparison. What makes Mafia so special is perhaps the priceless experience of being a mob member in the post-war USA. This game is all about the story. If you're not particularly interested in the topic of mafia as a cultural phenomenon, than it will be nothing more than another GTA-clone for you. But if you are fond of old-school gangster movies, Mafia II will certainly become one of your favourites.

This game is only interesting if you enjoyed Mafia. The pre-release hype was crazy, but once out it became apparent they had taken the key elements which made the first one great and hoped that would suffice for the sequel. Sadly, in a world with games like GTA IV, the mechanics seemed out of touch and a bit dusty. That said, if you really liked the first one, this one is worth it for that one mission that connects you to the original game. Enough said!

Although it’s not as great as its sequel, Mafia 2 is still a rather amazing game. It feels like a whole new game, with rather smooth gameplay, atmosphere and an alright storyline. The characters in the game are well developed and distinctive. The shooting feels great, as well.

Mafia 2 is a great, story-driven action game which offers great cut scenes and a believable game world. Its characters, graphics, music and sound are outstanding, but it lacks good AI and side missions at the same time. After ten to twelve hours of gameplay you finish the game with no possibility to deal with the game furthermore – compared to other open-world-titles like GTA IV. Anyhow, Mafia 2 is a great old-school-action game, with few faults.

Excellent graphics ( for the year 2010. ) , one of the best storylines i've ever seen . One of the most interesting things about this game is the huge city and it's story . The beginning of the game gave me chills ; He is returning from war , he is in the car , the snow is falling and he is slowly going through the city with a huge desire to see his family . There wasn't a single cut-scene that i skipped , because every cut-scene is interesting , some of them even epic !

It is a very engaging video game with some outstanding features compared to its other competitors. Impressive graphics is supporting the engaging story. Negatives: You are giving a more relaxed time in the city and as it is Mafia I expected bit more glamour. It is an enjoyable game and I recommend this.

Mafia II is a good video-game experience, not a good game per se. You play as Vito Scaletta, a 'Mafioso' living in Empire Bay. The gameplay itself, it's mediocre at best, you get to drive around a huge city, but a blank one at it. The driving is kind of fun as well as the shooting and the graphics are good. As I said before Mafia II is not a good game, and what really shines in this game are it's story, it's characters and it's cinema-like cutscenes. Play the game for the experience.
